  1. This discussion is not about Canadians, British, Americans Austrians ,Germans, Argentines, Mexicans, or even Martians........

Its about how you plan and spend your recources...in this case money. Its about you planning for the future not thinking of the past present but the future, having learned from the past and present.

If where you live has a cloudy future and unstable past... Get educated in all the ways you have to become smarter. Its an insurance policy you creat and finance your self. Things going bad at home? Ask could I have seen this trian wreck coming? When things changed..why did they. When things began tochange did you sit back or pay attention.

Any one...any nationality, county state, region, dominion, kingdom or city

has the power to take control of their future. Dont cry...get going Dont fret..get eduicated. Dont stand in the street, watching a truck heading for you and say darn thats a big truck I hope it dosent hit me....I wonder what I could do to not get hit?.........Get out of the way!!! Do something !!!

    Happy new year....

Along with your most 'impressive' resume including chef, medic, park ranger, and navy vet. we should now add financial genius? You are not talking to a pack of 'uneducated' imbeciles..

  2. Has anyone taken the Montreal to London River Routes and Channel Crossing cruise? It sails through Quebec, cruises the St Lawrence River, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and then

crosses the Atlantic to Ireland, Wales and Guernsey and ends in London. My husband and I are thinking about booking reservations. Two questions: is it better to do this in May or wait until the Fall. And, if you took it did you enjoy it? Thank you- any comments will be appreciated.

I can only find this itinerary for May and July....did not see one in the fall:confused:

  3. When entering the lounge we encountered a person/greeter as you enter, at the tables in front of seating and one who hands you your tender tickets on the way out. There are several others assisting all the way to the tenders and most days the cruise director was there. We are always on the first or second tender.

  4. We will be sailing on Jan 24, 2015 from Papeete to Australia and would like to know how to go about taking private tours in each port. Who can we contact to book ahead of our cruise stops? Thank you so much for any information you can give us. Hildy and Jeff from Sun Lakes, Arizona

    Hildy and Jeff

Go onto previous RollCall for past cruises with similar itineraries. Most posts have email addresses to contact the tour. There is a wealth good info also on the Pacific board. Read everything you can from CC to Trip advisor, google the ports, etc...Join or start your RollCall and tour company recommendations will come up. Book them early online, mention you are on Marina and most times the tour operator sets up a passenger list. There are some members who have a link to their email, they will be more than happy to answer your questions.

    You will love this trip!!!

  5. I have not seen the R class ships - I am comparing to other cruise lines including the nice library on the Noordam - I don't know how much user-friendly you can get than reading the reference chart, finding the appropriate section and grabbing whatever book you want and taking it. On every other cruise line you have to be at the library at a designated hour (or half hour) each day, check it out, and then bring it back again at a designated time; not to mention the very limited selection. Oceania trusts you as adults to return the book when you are finished.

Do the R class ships have a sort of Star Treky thing in your room where you just enter a code and the books appear immediately along with your beverage of choice?:)

seriously though I would like to know what is different about the two libraries - you were not the only person to mention that and I do appreciate the feedback.

The library on the R ships reminded me of an old folks home, snoring folks everywhere! It has an old british conservatory look...deep coloured wood and leather, and a stained glass insert in ceiling (shown on their website). I enjoy that type of decor but prefer the look and layout of the O library, also not good for nappers.

  6. OMG

I would disengage from any roll call like that on Oceania thankfully ours have been civilized so far

Sounds more like an NCL crowd

We do enjoy the private tours as well as the ship's tours it just depends on the port

    Lyn

I have recently seen a similar RC, I think the tropical itineraries are more likely to have these type of activities. Not for me!

  7. What you described for your M&G was exactly how it was arranged on our last Marina cruise. The list & info was posted on the RollCall. It was casual, and enjoyable. CCMembers just showed up after the drill. We were well over 100 on our RC & more than half showed up. No formal arrangements necessary, just a heads up to the staff at Horizon as Bill Explained..

  8. Seems to me that if they're bringing in a charter that is arriving late, it would be easier for the ship to open one of the restaurants for you ... even if it's a casual meal. (Terrace would be my thought.)

Having all of you calling for room service at the same time could be burdensome to THAT kitchen.

It's an interesting question, one that I've never encountered before.

    Mura

The Cruises to FP have been challenged in a few key areas...the OP has pointed yet out another, my guess is O will accommodate. We will start seeing posts from CC members who are returning from the January & Feb. sailings:confused:

  9. Concierge not worth it IMO. I have stayed in both conc.& B3 ext.balconiy and the larger deck with loungers is a 'perk' far better than a tote, bubbly, etc..and less $. I never felt looked upon as the persons in the cabins above tended to lounge at the pool, not having loungers on their reg. size balcony, plus there was ample privacy when seated nearer the sliding doors.

  10. Did they pick you up at the ship ?

They are telling me to get the shuttle to the port gates

    Lyn

They picked us up at the ship. What you are told might be the changes you read about. There is a long list of taxi companies on T.A. You may want to email a few others to see if it's new policy. Book ASAP...taxi service seem to be this ports problem.

  11. We basically keep a low profile, off touring at every port, dining just the two of us or occasionally with people we've met from our private tours, and I'd say we observed rude and unpleasant passenger behaviour at least once a day...they stand out. That said, we've met & kept in touch with several terrific people from our O cruises. I enjoy that many people on O are seasoned, knowlegeble travellers and know how to behave with discretion.

Giuseppes-have you tried breakfast in the MDR? babylambchops?

  12. What's the point of possibly knowing the answer to something, and not using it? That's the whole point of Cruise Critic. Not everyone has been on it for years, and even those who have, may not have read it for the wonkish detail like me. I get my jollies sharing what I've learned...

    Great summary for Ronniewales,

It seems, by what I read, with O's participation, the M&G couldn't take place before several days? What would you suggest to those who wish to organize something the 1st or 2nd evening, which is when most would like to meet&greet one another? I have read on several posts that persons requesting help we're flatly refused by either the concierge or reception (I don't have the patience to dig up these posts, but I am certain you've read them too) What to do then?

  13. I am aware that deviation flights can be arranged 270 days prior to cruise. Can I know, at that same time, what their free air flights would be? I thought those flights were known close to departure..somewhat late to make ones own arrangements?? I ask this because I may opt for their standard flight post cruise.

  14. If I were you, I'd skip the cab altogether and do a water tour of the Bay of Kotor

bay_of_kotor.jpg Serene, gorgeous and tranquil beyond belief....

Positively one of the highlights of the Adriatic

if I remember correctly there were boat&land tours being offered, best of both worlds! you may want to search online and book an excursion or share a tour with your RollCall.

  15. Do you remember what you paid (I presume in Euros?), and did you tip on top of the quote? Also how long was your taxi tour?

    Thanks!

Judy, I don't recall the exact price or the length of time but my guess would be 60ish euros 3hrs? I remember we thought it quite affordable and that it was well worth it. We normally tip(10%) for good tours. My photos of this port are georgeous but unfortunately do not know how to attach! The views sailing into this fjords-like port is beautiful..one of my favourite ports.

    Have a nice cruise.

  16. Does any one know how far the walled in city of Kotor is from where the Oceania docks. Is it walkable? We will be there in July on the Oceania and I'm trying to make plans for independent touring. Thanks.

We were there 3yrs ago and we were docked. Walkable, but we opted for a taxi tour. Many vendors on the docks, reasonably priced. The driver we had was friendly, english speaking and would stop for walk abouts and photos, spectacular views. Beautiful port.

  17. I wasn't thrilled with the manicures I've gotten on both Nautica and on Marina. While the nail preparation and application was perfectly fine, and the hygiene of the tools was excellent, neither ship was equipped with a machine to speed the drying process. Since two coats of nail polish and a sealer coat take 2 1/2 hours to be fully dry, although the top coat may long have felt dry to the touch, I messed up both manicures. Essentially, I wasted my money. I didn't bother going back to the spa for a re-do on the messed up nails since the problem would only repeat itself.

A Google search tells me that the small portable drying machines like the kind used in my regular salon coast in the vicinity of $50. I simply cannot imagine why the spa doesn't have this inexpensive but essential piece of equipment.

As for your specific question, shouldn't all manicures be no-chip manicures? What's unique about the type of manicure you're looking for?

    • Shellac No Chip Nails

Shellac is a cross between nail polish and gel. Shellac is applied like regular nail polish and then cured using a UV lamp.

Shellac lasts much longer than your regular manicure; up to 14 days without chipping or peeling. Dry time is instant, making the application process fast and ensuring your polish doesn’t smudge.

  18. Sight Seekers give great tours. You'll enjoy them.

As for museums, I would opt for the Orsay over the Louvre for many reasons. But if you get the 2-Day Museum Pass (which includes Versailles), what we did is a good option. That is to spend a solid couple of hours at the Orsay. The museum itself is an amazing structure, inside and out. You could also just go into the Denon wing of the Louvre for an hour and see the masterpieces (Mona Lisa, Victory, and Venus de Milo). The Mona Lisa is very small and it is tough to get close enough to it to appreciate it. The crowd scene is beyond belief.

    Enjoy.

We did an evening tour of the Louvre, we had the place practically to ourselves! Booked the tickets online.http://www.city-discovery.com/paris/tour.php?id=2923
