I have used a wow band on the Quantum and Anthem numerous times and the Harmony once and never did it NOT work to get into the shows.

You missed an important point of what I was talking about: I was referring to the Suite / Sky class perk of not needing a reservation for any show - they see your purple Sky class seapass card and just wave you in and over to the reserved seating.  Same thing with the employees guarding the reserved seats: they need to see that specially colored Sky or Star card to let you in to the reserved row.  If you have a reservation to a show, then the band is enough to scan you in.

My son tried going to a show without his seapass (only the wristband) and was told he couldn't come in without the actual seapass.  Again, because he didn't have a reservation (because we were sky class.)

  2. I just got back from a cruise on Explorer of the Seas. My friend asked about our 11 y/o boys moving up to the teen group (12-17.) They said that there weren't a ton of kids and they would probably be allowed to move up, but that the teen group wasn't as active. Sure enough, whenever the 15 y/o in our group went to the club, no one was there or it was just a couple of kids talking. Our boys stayed with their age group and we gave them self-check-out privileges. Unfortunately, since there weren't a lot of kids, they combined the 5-8 group in with the 9-11 pretty frequently. This meant that the older kids were pretty throttled from any type of active play. Since we were a group of 4 families with 8 kids beween us, our kids just found their fun on the sport court or other places besides the kids club. I didn't mean to write a novel, but... wanted to convey that the staff was at least open to the idea of our 11 year olds in with the older group.

  3. I wore a fleece-lined waterproof jacket; but I'm always cold so the fleece lining was never too much for me. My son, who is more warm-blooded, wore a light LLBean rain jacket over a t-shirt. When cold, he added a hoodie sweatshirt under the rain jacket. When it got darn cold, he added scarf, hat, and gloves. My best advice is to waterproof your shoes (we used spray scotchguard) and invest in good quality hiking socks. When your feet stay dry and warm, everything seems better. :)

  4. I've been on all 4 DCL ships and prefer the "classic" ships. I think you really feel the extra people on the Fantasy and Dream. I just got off the EBTA on the Magic and though there were not as many kids as usual, the teens we saw were having a blast. My DS is 8 and enjoyed the revamped Oceanear's Lab.

  5. I had my second Zumba class this week - it was so much fun! I have a question for everyone about shoes. What do you wear, and why do you like it?

I dug an old pair of Bloch's hip hop dance sneakers out of the closet and I love them but they are too old now and I need to replace them. They work very well for Zumba but they don't have any support left. What I like about them is they are very lightweight and cool, and they are designed for turning well.

Can you give me some advice? I know there are a lot of appropriate shoes out there.

I wear the nike air musique IV. They are great for all the studio gym classes I take, including zumba. I happen to have good luck with nike shoes and these are my second pair of nike studio shoes.

  6. A couple cruises ago, a young lady kept her beach towel secured to her lounge chair with really cute clips. I went to amazon upon returning home and sure enough, there they were! They're called Boca Clips and come in different styles, all around $7.

If you're a Fashionista by the pool or on a beach lounger, these clips keep your towel from sliding down the back of the chair:

My local WalMart sells these for $5 and some change. They're in the "seasonal" section with pool chemicals, swim gear and pool toys. I have a couple of sets (mine look like alligators rather than parrots, though!)

Purchase #3 - Have you ever looked at a dress on the rack and thought, "It doesn't look all that flattering on the hanger, but it's on sale...can't hurt to try it on." That's what I did and my cruise closet now has another inhabitant. It's one of those easy-to-pack, easy-to-wear dresses.

I find this very true with sundresses. Maybe because they don't have a lot of structure, so they don't have as much hanger appeal? It's like on the show "What not to Wear": Just try it on!:D

  8. I'm really enjoying this thread! I have recently discovered dresses by "outdoor clothing" compaines such as Patagonia, Woolrich, Merrell, etc. I thought these were so perfect for cruising. I found a good assortment at REI and ended up buying a couple of dresses made by prana. No wrinkles, built-in shelf bra (only good for low impact,) and suitable for daytime fun with flip flops or evening dinner with nicer sandals and a wrap.
