  1. A similar thing happened to me.  My wife and I had a cruise scheduled for April 2020, but on March 11 we re-scheduled to a December cruise because of the virus.  Of course the December cruise (to the Caribbean) has been cancelled.  We got an email saying that we would get a refund to the account that paid for the cruise.  It turns out that that "account" is my Latitude account, not my bank account.  The representative I talked to said that this is because WE cancelled the April cruise rather than wait for NCL to cancel the cruise.  Apparently if we had waited we would have the money in hand.  Instead, we have a future credit.

I'm not sure I want a future credit with NCL, because I have little interest in cruising with them again.  We will someday use that credit, I suppose, but it will be our last NCL cruise.  This is a shoddy way to treat customers.  Yes, they are in business to make money, but you make money by treating customers right rather than pointing them to the fine print in their contracts.

    BOO, NCL!!!

  2. One thing that I haven’t seen mentioned that is unique on the Celebrity Edge is its jogging track. The track forms a figure 8 using the 15th and 16th decks. Having an uphill and a downhill section adds an element that I have never seen on the cruise ship track. On the 16th deck the runner/walker gets a terrific view off both sides of the ship. There are restrooms and a drinking fountain alongside the track. As a runner, I loved it.

Now if the Edge just had a piano bar and a few quiet places with tables like a library.

  3. We just got back from a HAL Cruise to Alaska--my first HAL cruise, and I was pleased with how few offers were made on the ship. Bingo was not constantly advertised over the speakers as I have experienced on other lines.

I assume that you have taken the same view of home insurance, life insurance and auto insurance. After all they make money as well.

I do take the same view of these insurances. I get insurance to cover costs that would be a major difficulty for me to cover myself. That's why I have very high deductibles on the insurances you mention. I didn't want to start a fight; I just wanted to point out that one might consider self-insurance.

  5. Remember: the insurance companies make money on these policies. Therefore, the average person pays more for the policy than he/she collects. Consider "self insuring", especially if you consider yourself a better-than-average risk.
