  1. Looking for this as well. They keep changing the sparkling wine selections. That is all we drink so decision to take package depends vs. bring our own and pay corkage fee depends on what the wine is....

I was on the Escape last summer and fell in love with a sparkling wine at the Mondavi wine bar. I see it on NCL's website but the list is dated 2015. Does anyone know of a more recent wine list? Thank you! Looking to book the Breakaway to Bermuda this July.

  2. Have a look at the video on you tube (search for aft NCL)

They are big. I'll compare them to the mini-suite with large balconies.... those are huge but very exposed. I was in 8124 in May 2015. I will be in 9320 in 2 weeks do I can compare. I do believe many have stated that the higher you go, the smaller the size of the aft......

  3. The food is almost a carbon copy of Epic with very few differences although there are some such as the Flamingo Grill (nothing to write home about unless you like Cuban food outdoors) and Ocean Blue which I was so disappointed in.

You've got your standard French, Steakhouse, Italian & Brazilian. Same pub.

Not much new.... If you liked Epic, you'll likely like this too.

  4. The coffee served through room service, in the buffet and in the dining rooms is quite frankly awful. In the past, we have just bought a Lavazza coffee each day from the Atrium. This time, we are bringing our melita cone filter with paper filter (#2 size) and our own coffee. It is just the plastic cone that one buys as a student in residence. I have had 2 now for 25 years and they never break (lol). We will order room service with a pot of boiling water instead of coffee. We will drip out own. I guess a french press made of stainless would also be another alternative although harder to clean. I love to have my breakfast on my large balcony while sipping a "good" cup of coffee.

Also, as far as restaurant coffee: nothing beats the French Press in Le Bistro. They seem to be the only ones to make a decent coffee that is included in your cover charge.

  5. We are cruising in January on the Getaway and have a question regarding the UDP. When I go on "MyNCL" it seems that we do not have to purchase the package for the entire days of the cruise. Am I correct?

Honestly, we will probably go to Le Bistro ($20), Cagneys ($30), La Cucina ($15), Moderno ($20) as well as Ocean Blue and Sushi (both not included in package). So it looks like we are looking 4 nights ($87.32) but when I add up the surcharges I'm only at $85. What is the advantage of the UDP?

One advantage is you can order any item on the menu without a surcharge as is the case for lobster at Le Bistro (but well worth it)

  6. I plan on doing VIBE when I B2B in August. I never get to buy VIBE passes as they are always sold out by the time I check in since I only fly in the previous night for winter cruises. I will report back. An yes, I will do the Cabana. If I am going to get to be first on the ship, I HAVE to try it.....

  7. On my May 2015 cruise, arrival was officially stated at 8 a.m. in the itinerary. Note that the ship actually arrives in port much earlier (usually around 6:30'ish allowing the authorities to clear the ship by 7:30.... ship must be cleared before anyone gets off) I kept all dailies and here is when you really get off the ship on debarkation day:

Approx 7:30-8:15 Easy walk-off (you must carry your own luggage and can't require assistance)

    8:00 a.m. TOURS

8:10 Latitude Gold and Platinum arrangements & Norwegian Transfers flights before 1:30pm

8:15 and onwards........ other guests, just get the luggage tag corresponding to the earliest time if you want to get off early but want your luggage to be taken from outside of your room the previous night and made available in the terminal for you just before customs and immigration.

Hope this helps. It is 100% accurate for the Getaway as of May 2015.

  8. Ship has tons of nooks and crannies that are quiet. That should not be an issue unless you want to be by the pool which may be an issue if there are 1000 kids booked on this voyage. I would encourage you to buy the ultimate dining plan and to eat in specialty restaurants for all 7 nights. I think you'll find this closer to Princess (which I have sailed)

  9. Seems the secret is to be there very very early.

If it isn't winter, I don't bother to fly in the night before.

I should, I know this, but I live dangerously.

I am just fed up with paying 250$ for a 3 star old airport hotel just because it is the night before a cruise. I stayed 5 star but that is a waste because you don't end up enjoying the amenities of the property because you need to get to the port early.

So I fly in day of and never get any in spite of the fact we are at port around 1130 am. This August I will be back to back to I get to trump all you early birds and will see if it Vibe was worth it.

I don't understand the whole Haven people would want Vibe passes.

Why would they want vibe passes (other than to escape children in the Haven area) Seriously, Haven is providing you with first class amenities that are just beside Vibe (separated by frosted glass) So why would you pay for what you already have.

  10. I just checked MyNCL account for my Aug 15th 2015 cruise.

Flowers are available. I was gifted some flowers for our 25th Anniversary last May and they were very nice and actually lasted the week (but barely). Of course we just left them in the room. I know there is a cut off for ordering flowers to your room before you cruise. Something like a week before, you'll no longer be able to buy flowers through your MyNCL account for that cruise. Flower packages range from 44$ to 59$ for a dozen red roses. I would avoid the 44$ springtime package as it was more just a bunch of daisies.... better value for the money on the other packages. Of course, you can always go for $6 a rose from Guest Services (I saw them there) or from the specialty restaurants when they are running (at the front podium).

  11. Same as on land, any restaurant can have an off day. Nothing worse than going to a great place and it being that day the relief staff is on duty in the kitchen. This doesn't tend to happen on ships BUT they rotate the staff (at least the floor staff) When I was onboard the Getaway in May, I had Adrian from Romania as the Maitre D in Le Bistro. He was exceptional. The Maitre D in Cagneys didn't bother to come see us when my wife had an allergic reaction in Cagney's earlier in the week and then called the next day to say she must have eaten something else that wasn't from his restaurant. He argued with her. Just goes to show. That being said, Adrian told us he would likely be in another specialty restaurant next August when we back to back on Getaway again. We'll see who we draw! You're only as good as your staff. Same thing on a ship. It all depends on which staff are assigned to your restaurant. Years ago when we sailed Princess, the head Chef would come to greet us and discuss the meal and make sure everything was correct and proper for our next meal. The head chef for the ship.... now that was service.

  12. Le Bistro by far. The steak is just as good if not better and the variety of other options is far better. I have consistently had better meals at Le Bistro then at Cagney's (same goes for service). BTW, I had the Entrecote for two on my own last time at no surcharge. I had UDP. Not sure if they were suppose to do that but they did anyway. As always, it was exceptional...... but man is that a lot of meat. I skipped desert. BTW coffee at Le Bistro is French Press: hands down the best coffee on board with the exception of the Lavazza coffee you pay for at the Main Bar.

  13. I have a couple questions that I have been unable to search and find answers to.

    1. Regarding your comment about it not being unlimited... what IS the daily limit of drinks you can order? (I know carnival limits to 15/day)

    2. I know you can only order 1 drink at a time, but how often can you order another drink? (Carnival makes you wait 5 minutes in between)

    3. I saw the list of items not included, but didn't see anything specific in regards to shots. Would they be included even though they're not a cocktail, beer, wine by the glass or fountain soda?

Any help on these question would be appreciated as my searches have come up empty on this. Thanks.

1- No limit (trust me.... way too many Proseccos the first day)

2- I was told by the staff, finish your drink, then you can have another <lol>

2- included with the UBP that includes cocktails.

  14. I have used walkie0talkies in the past and it was hit and miss depending on location of party you were looking to reach. Other side of the ship and that was a dead zone. I only used the app for tracking my expenses in May 2015. It worked great. Glad to hear the device to device COMs work better now. We are sailing with 2 17 year olds in August. I will want to be able to know where they are and what they are up to. We will make use of the app.

  15. Book a suite. Rooms are a little tired (i.e. look more like they are right out of the 70's) but staff was great. Very different with an American Crew... not in a bad way either. The concierge went over the top out of his way! Hawaii if awesome (especially Maui) Spend time there before and after cruise.

  16. I was on Getaway in May 2015, the lines were the same as previous cruises where UBP was not available. There were no lines per say. Couple of swamped pool bars at sailaway but other then that, never waited more than a few minutes while bat staff attended to guests that had been before me. Also note, service at the Mojito bar (currently Breakaway class and more recent ships) can be a little slower because these lovely drinks require a little (love and) preparation... that being said they are well worth it. Find a comfy chair or sofa and enjoy the company: you'll be served soon enough. BTW I was told NCL plans to expand the Mojito bar fleet wide. We will see if this turns out to be true
