  1. Not answering your question but just in case you were not aware - you can actually access Giant's Causeway for free - the charge is for going into the National Trust's visitor's centre. There is a bit of controversy about the signs being misleading.

So I would need my card to access the visitors centre?

  2. Well let's start this forum for the American Queen sailing from New Orleans on April 16th. 2018.

We are Neil and Joan from Leeds in the UK and look forward to meeting you all on this thread and in person.

We are arriving in New Orleans four days prior to setting sail to give ourselves plenty of time to see the sights.

We are on the cruise after you from Memphis to New Orleans so look after the boat for us

  3. We have an excursion booked with Princess to the giants causeway. Can anyone tell me if I will need to take my national trust card to gain free access or will the entrance fee, shuttle bus etc be covered by princess??

  4. I asked the question originally because if they are still issued I would not bother to take one the ones I already have. I find them extremely useful. I just fold them up and put them at the bottom of my handbag. They are great when you are on the ship.

  5. Gratuities are added to the onboard account early in the cruise for the whole duration. Britannia has draught beers. Stella was £3:80 last time I was on board. I think Peroni is draught in some bars although not all bars have draught beer. They also do some decent ales in bottles plus all manners of cocktails and spirits. The Glasshouse has a good selection of wines as well as draught beers. Some ships have your account linked to the TV in your cabin. Britannia is not one of these but you can get a print of your account from reception whenever you want one.

    Thanks for the information

  6. Princess charge a lot more per night grattuaties and their drink prices are ouch ouch ouch!! My husband paid £7 for draught stella. Can someone answer a couple of questions on pando Britannia, do they put the gratuaties on your room bill on a daily basis? Secondly do they have draught beer/lager or is it bottles/cans? Thirdly how do you check your account? Again on Princess they have print out machines where you can get a statement when you want it

  7. Only small ships stop at the berth near the cable car and only when other berths have been taken up. I never seen a P&O ship berth anywhere other than on the main pier which is shuttle bus ride away from the edge of town.

If you look at the Madeira port webcams you'll see what I mean.

As I said it was over 13 years ago when we last went there. Thank you for the information.

  8. Last time we visited Madeira in 2003 I believe there was a new cruise terminal bring built. At that time the cruise ships berthed very near to the cable car. Could anyone tell me if they still berth here and if not where, and how far away from the centre of Funchal

  9. Hi, Buddymum although I have quite a few fall length dresses and maxis I am barely 5.1 . Although I do wear killer heels with the more evening type dresses but lower toe-posts with the maxis. For me it's just a treat to get really dressed up once in a while as I rarely do at home.

Killer heels not for me as I have a problem with one of my knees! So highest heel I can wear is 1 to 2". I have tried various outlets but I always end up with enough material on the floor to make me a skirt!!

  10. This will be our 8th cruise, previously sailed with Celebrity and Princess(who cater more for the american market) This time for the first time we are sailing with PandO. My husband does not own a dj and and so will wear dark lounge suite with shirt and tie. As I am under 5 foot I cannot buy a full length evening dress so I wear long chiffon skirt with glittery top or crepe coctail type dresses.

Yes dj's do look great but if you donot have reason to wear one anywhere else dont feel pressured to spend the money. I know people who love cruising but never do formal nights, as someone has said previously they just go to places on the ship that dont insist on formal attire

We are on a 12 night cruise and there are 4 formal nights.
