Thanks to everyone for this info :) I just booked galveston limousine for $50 pp/rt IAH. Much better than the $94 pp/rt that carnival wanted!

Just went to the Dollar Tree on Monday to pick up some cruise stuff, was pretty happy with what I got, I thought I'd share!
Toiletries:
loofah sponge
shaving cream
toothpaste
ivory soap (only soap I like to use)
mini deodorant
medications- cold and allergy meds (i got sick on a cruise once and paid over $10 for dayquil. now I bring my own cold meds no matter what)
Travel packs of wet wipes
Other stuff:
mesh laundry bag (i used a trash bag once instead and oh my gosh did that smell ripe by the time i got home!)
collapsable storage box (i hate having clutter on counters, but thats almost unavoidable, so I feel better if the clutter is at least contained in a box)
sewing kit
filing folder (clutch sized, to keep documents in one place)
dry erase board
I got some other great deals at some other places that I want to share.
-Shaws had a bunch of sunblock on clearance, $2 for spray 30spf! Wicked good deal, and they dont expire till 2016. Bought 2 for me and 2 for mum.
-Two bungee bracelets with keychains attached ($1 each) which I combined with two clear plastic badge holders I have, to put seapass/sail&sign cards in. I dont like a lanyard around my neck, I find having them attached to my wrist suits my needs.
I love deals and steals! I am a thrifty girl through and through :D

Basically anything fully attached to your foot is what you want. flip flops can slip off causing you to hurt yourself. Keens will be perfect!

I did tubing with him back in probably 2006 and I think there was the option to jump off a rock into the river... is that still done? I think I was too chicken then, but I want to do it now :)
Also... his site talks about lunch being included in the fare, but then it mentions stopping at a restaurant to buy lunch? is that the included part, or is that pay on your own?
Side point, I remember booking this for only $35 back in '06, oh how times change, especially when the ship is charging close to $110pp

I convinced my mother that it shouldnt be an issue, if we are careful and aware. Also, I think she had the idea that someone would help us right then if we had problems?? I told her that travel insurance is not our personal concierge... then she finally understood. So, we did book insurance but not for that reason.

I found information on "missed connections" to catch up to a cruise but i am assuming that is for before the cruise starts... like if my airline was at fault. I am looking for, say, if we are in belize, miss the ship, and need to get to cozumel to catch up to the ship. HIGHLY unlikely this will happen but my DM wants to have it.
-
First of all, as a disclaimer I would to state two things.. 1. I have done a search on here but didn't find what I am looking for, so hopefully this isn't a constantly asked question, and 2. I have never ever been a pier runner and do not plan on ever being one, BUT with that being said...
My mom and I are going on a cruise next month. She wants to get travel insurance for the primary factor of being able to get to the next port if, for some unforeseen reason, we miss the ship before it leaves a port (ex. Roatan). I have done extensive insurance research and haven't found that exact coverage. At least, I dont think I have seen it, so if I did, I didnt understand the terminology.
So my question is, do any insurance companies cover this? If yes, can I get some recommendations?
Thanks in advance

As with most things, to each their own, and I'm happy to hear your point of view!

1. Swimsuit
2. Phone (internet, communication, camera)
3. Flip flops
4. Sunglasses
5. A sundress
I really think I could cruise with just those items!
I ignored the obvious essentials like ID, passport, docs, money.

My two cents... So much has been covered but I wanted to add something different. I wracked by brain thinking of something I bring that I don't think many others do... I came up with this little tip, geared towards women.
I bring a specific perfume when I cruise, and only when I cruise. That way, if I smell it somewhere the cruise feeling comes rushing back! It's really nice. Also it's one of those things that when I use it the first time on the ship I really know I'm there!

So last week I was looking at my work time off request for my upcoming cruise (in 4 days mind you) and I was thinking, jeez I feel like I should have more shifts covered..... Oh CRAP!
I never asked for the first day off. I work 16 hrs that day. I work as a staff in an independent living house with ppl with brain injuries. I can't just not show up... The state would be pretty ticked...
So I scrambled and after tons of calls and begging I managed to swap shifts and am now working doubles right up until the night before we go.
Have you had any oh CRAP! moments in regards to your cruise? Whether it's pre, during, or post cruise?

Bump! I love this post :)
A lot of ppl bring neck lanyards for s&s cards. I personally find that gets in the way and looks silly on me. What I do is, I buy a cheap stretchy bracelet from Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart and attach a keychain ring or clip to it, then attach my hole punched s&s card to it. Kinda cute and functional :)

Just hit the dollar tree and this is what I got for my cruise in 2 1/2 weeks!
Drawstring backpack ( super cheap quality, may end up getting a different one)
Sewing kit (could very well be used to fix above mentioned cheap bag!)
Hole puncher (for s&s cards. I know casino will do it but I could use one at home anyway)
Collapsible box (for hair & makeup stuff, to keep vanity clear)
Cute accordion file (for cruise docs & paperwork)
3 outlet adapter (I use this instead of a strip, gives me enough plugs with out being bulky)
Wanted but didn't see:
Over door shoe hanger
Heavy duty large clips to attach towel to beach chair
Mini first aid kit
Door decoration I actually liked
Freaking love that store!

Bump!
Love this thread since I am a dollar tree addict! Less than 3 weeks to go, I better get my butt over there. I'm a big fan of getting toiletries there and leaving them behind at the end since I HATE unpacking at home. I can even do this with make up basis, I've found maybelline brand and also e.l.f. brand which I like. Mega bargain on the maybelline!

when we took our grandkids on an 8 day cruise, I did a surprise for each of them that they received after dinner each night IF they behaved at dinner. I got most of the items at the dollar store and one of the biggest hits where the bracelets/necklaces that glow in the dark. I also bought beach balls (easy to pack w/o any air).
What a great idea! Have to do that if I take neice and nephew ever.

I've started a new dollar tree shopping list for my cruise in 3 weeks, can't wait to see what I find! Most important to me is a mini first aid kit.

Bumping and old but fun thread!

I was at the Dollar Tree today and i thought id check out what they had that could be useful in cruising, pre-cruise, post-cruise, or in cruise planning.
PLEASE note that this is NOT a list of what I am getting/brining! Its just a fun (sometimes silly) list of potenially useful things. Dont make comments saying not to bring all of it, and that none of it will ever be used on a cruise. its just for fun :)
oh, and for the things i actually might use or bring, im marking with a **. my maybies are with *.
- rain ponchos (set of 2) (actually on my honeymoon i coulda used these, had to buy em in port)
- glow bracelets, rings, necklaces, sticks (they are a hit these days and you will be too if you bring em to the night clubs)
- baby wipes ** (i always bring these camping and i might bring alittle pack for while in port)
- sewing kit **
- picture frames (for your new pics!)
- cheapie flip flops ** (for spa or around pool or even in shower if your germ phobic)
- suit storage bag (like fancy suit, not swimsuit)
- journal
- flameless tealights (set the moooooooood ;))
- toothbrush travel kit (comes w/ brush, little paste and tbrush cover)
- makeup remover wipes ** (i use these on a daily basis at home, they are much easier than washing your face)
- mini tissue pack
- imitation 'designer' perfume ** (so you dont lose your good stuff. i always buy imitation clinique happy and i only use it on cruises so now the smell makes me think of that and that only)
- any toilettries ** (i do this because when im done with the cruise, ill just toss em b4 we debark. less to carry. lotion, shampoo, shave gel, conditioner, body wash, deoderant etc)
- eye mask (not for me, if you have a balcony and are sensitive to the sunlight and want a nap)
- first aid kit ** (just comes with different types of bandages and cleaning swabs in a little plastic box. its about the size of a pack of playing cards. i will add.....)
- OTC Meds ** (...to add to 1st aid kit. cold medicine [i got a cold on a cruise once and had to spend nearly $10 on cold medicine] tylonol, pepto, antacid, neosporin. just add few of each and it should fit right into the aid kit box no sweat)
- travel size bottles (if you bring your own toilettries and not the ones from the store to toss)
- detergent * (powder or liquid. put some powder into a ziplock to use at the ships laundry facilities... at least on carnival they have em)
- Bottled water *(cheaper than on boat, and can take to ports. ill prolly bring 1 bottle, maybe 2)
- mini hand sanitizer
- batteries
- Soda **
- Ziplock bags (for wet stuff, or dirty undies :p)
- Night Light (a lot of ppl talk of bringing one of these. ive never needed it, we just keep the light on in the bathroom. oh, but they had some really cute designs!)
- Tap Light * (similar to night light but battery powered and you smack it to turn it on. i mayyyyyy do this one. keep it at the bed side)
- watch (i wont be using my cell phone at all, itll be in the safe. so i need a timepiece. i wont get it here, ill get something water resistant but its an idea)
- pedometer (to see how many miles you walk on that boat! skip the elevators!)
- 3 Outlet Converter thingy ** (ppl alwayyyyysss praise the old power strip, but i think its too bulky. so this plugs into the outlet, and has 3 outlets right on it. i think thats easier to pack and use)
- Bungee Cord (for the balcony. not for me, we cruise inside)
- Extension Cord (ppl talk about those too???)
- Lint Brush! (though there are no pets to bless our clothes with their hair on a cruise, there are sure to be residuals)
- Clothes Pins (for hmmmm lets see... oh yeah pinning clothes. and for the shower curtain, or balcony curtains)
- Laundry Bag (to seperate dirty stuff and/or to bring your stuff to the laundry machines on deck)
- Pasties  (ladies, for those outfits where its not so easy to wear certain undergarments...)
- Various Exercise DVD's (for Pre and Post cruise weight loss!)
- Word Search/Crossword Puzzles **(for plane ride or while relaxing by the pool)
- Note Cards (for your extra tips if you chose to do so)
- Post Its (to leave notes for cabin mates)
- Binder (if you are a manic cruise planner, you will want to organize all your info and things you've printed out.... maybe this list )
- Gift Card Holder (cute tin box that holds gift cards. i know some ppl give room stewards phone cards and this would be a nice personal touch to it.)
WHEW! that was a lot longer than i thought it would be! A lot of the stuff is frivelous, but HEY, isnt planning and thinking about your cruise half the fun?? well, it is for me :D
-
I love just looking around seeing NOTHING but ocean north south east and west! also, i like how if you walk in the opposite direction the boat is moving, it feels like you arent going anywhere or if you walk in the direction the boats going you feel like youre TRUCKIN'!
-
id love to see any splendor pics!

this thread is so funny! i NEVER thought of going to a WM on vacay, the idea appalled me lol butttttttt now that ive read this im thinking it would probably be a great idea to pick up some things IF i left them behind or ran out. Also, maybe to pick up another 6 pack of soda for the rest of the trip, maybe some sunscreen too.
I would never buy souvinirs there though! thats just me, i dont judge or care if anyone else does lol
Any carnival cruisers who like to Geocache out there?

My upcoming cruise is the first I have gone on after starting geocaching. Wondering if there are any like minded carnival cruisers out there, who love the hunt in new ports?
