  1. 1) cabin #12226

    2) bed by balcony or by bath? (I know the deck plans show this, but some cabins on the Edge have been the reverse of the deck plans). Bed was by the Bathroom

    3) Did your balcony connect to the one next to it? If so, by a door in the firewall or by folding back the end section of the balcony divider (can tell by the hinges on panel) - these are both locked and usually only opened by the cabin attendant by request of people traveling together.  Looked like it could be open

    4) Any noise or other issues with your cabin?  None

    5) If you had an opportunity to see your neighbor's SV balcony, did you see any size difference?  Did not notice any difference

    6) Did you ask for and receive a lounger for your balcony?  Lounger was already there; however, it took up a lot of room with the 2 chairs and table. We never used it.

    7) If you were on deck 7, did you have any problems with Eden under you? Did the Eden bump out impact your wake view? Were the lights from Eden an issue at night?    We were on Deck 12

8 ) If you were in 7313, 7310, 8321 or 8312 did you find your balcony adequate in size?  n/a

    9) If you were in 7315, 7312, 8323 or 8314 was there a white box on the balcony (there appears to be something in picture below)? Did you balcony seem larger than other SV's (if you saw any others)?  n/a

    10) Overall, taking size, privacy, shade, sun into consideration, how did you like your balcony?  Loved it!  Considering it was just below the outside seating of the Oceanview Cafe, there was no noise from above from chair movement, etc.  It was a long walk to the closest elevator bank, but we got used to it and got a lot of steps in.  We could see down on the balconies below us but those below could not see us unless we were looking over the rail.  Would definitely get a SV cabin again on Deck 12.

Please add pictures, if you wish, especially of the balconies (since the inside of the cabins are similar), such as view, dividing walls and anything unusual.

  2. We are very excited to have a Celebrity Ship in Tampa!  Booked the Christmas & New Years Holiday sailing.  Pricing for a balcony was pretty good and it's always been a bucket list item to cruise on New Years.  And not having to fly, stay at a hotel or park (Uber or family is cheaper), it worked out well.  Welcome, Celebrity!

  3. Ship - Glory

    Deck - 8

    Stateroom # - 8206

    Stateroom Category – Inside 4J

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – NA

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - NA

Was wind a problem? - NA

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - NA

Any specific problems with this cabin? - None

Any other comments? - QUIET AND CONVENIENT CABIN. This was the last inside cabin located at the very front of the ship on Deck 8. It was located directly aft of the hallway to the Bridge and besides our across the hall neighbors, that was the only (very limited) foot traffic. The Lido was one deck up and very convenient yet quiet because we had Deck 9 cabins above. Front elevator to Spa and Sererenty areas directly above; Theatre and Dining Room directly below. Excellent and spacious inside cabin with comfortable beds.

  4. I'm printing out some paper work now available and came across 2 set sail passes with my name on both. I'm listed as primary pass holder on them. My fiancé is also sailing neither mention him. Should I make him make an acct on rccl to print a pass with his name?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

There are two parts to the Set Sail pass: (1) Cruise Ticket Contract Acceptance and (2) On Board Expense Account and all guests in the stateroom need to be listed on the Set Sail pass(es). Either all names on one or each on separate Set Sail pass. This is true for MOST ships as mentioned in another post. Otherwise, he will have to do additional paperwork at the port. If you are using cash on board, just set up the account as CASH and then put whatever money you like at Guest Services onboard the ship. Your OBC will be debited first. You could also set up a credit card and then pay for any expenses once your OBC is used in cash on the last day of your cruise. You have lots of options! Happy sails!

  5. On Allure of the Seas, Sept 18, 2016 - President's Cruise

Premium Package: $363.44 including 18% gratuity

My math puts this pricing at $55 per day plus gratuities not $49 before the prices were raised.

I called spoke with CS and then a Supervisor and was told that he would "note my comments - because they are important to RCI", however, the price went up and there was nothing he could do about it. He did advise me that on board, the price would be 20% more.

    We shall see.

  6. I always book directly with the tour operator (especially if you know the name). Have successfully booked with Viator and ShoreFox for excursions in other ports of call with excellent results. I would NOT book with Shore Excursioneer. They do not stand behind their refund policy if you miss the excursion.

We have toured with Bernards twice with good results and plenty of time back to port. Most likely will book with Amigos directly for their excursion to Grande Case and Marigot and Moho.

  7. We have a taxi service reserved to take our party of 10 around St. Maarten/St. Martin for a 5 hour window on our upcoming cruise on NCL Gem. We are newbies, and having never been to the islands have no idea what to expect in terms of traffic/travel time. We will have the taxi from 9 am - 2pm, if that helps.

Our only two definite plans are to spend a bit of time at Mullet Bay, and take the kids to experience Maho for the airplanes. We would also like to visit the french side, but most of what I'm seeing that I'm interested in looks from the maps like it would be adding in too much travel/drive time. I thought Grand Case looked gorgeous, would consider Marigot to shop and find a nice bakery, and also thought about the Northern end of Orient Beach (rather not have the kids in the nude part!). I also read good things about seeing L'Embouchere Bay. Obviously, I know there is no way to do all of it, but is it even likely to do Mullet Bay for say 2 hours, Maho, plus ONE of these french side options? Are there other good french side options for a large family group that might fit into our itinerary better?

I am open to all of your suggestions/thoughts - like I said, we are all noobs! :D

Not sure how much the taxi is costing you. If you're not committed, check out Bernard's Tours. We have used them twice and they take you all around the island for about $40 pp (maybe less for the kids).

  8. I've sailed on both Vision and Brilliance within 30 days of each other very recently (Dec 2015 and Jan 2016) both out of the Port of Tampa. This was my second time on Brilliance.

Itinerary: The Vision sailing was a 10 nighter with my husband (we're both in our 50's) Nov 30-Dec 10, 2015 (booked 18 months prior). The Brilliance sailing was a 4 night quick getaway with my daughter (in her 20's) on Jan 7, 2016 (booked 2 weeks prior).

Embarkation/Debarkation: Tampa is a small port. Brilliance sails from Terminal 3 and Vision sails from Terminal 2. We arrived around 11:00 am at both terminals and were checked in, onboard and dining in the Park Cafe in about 30 minutes. Staterooms were ready about 1:00pm. Debark was smooth off both ships as well, about 30 minutes once our number was called. Recommend not doing self-assist debark and putting out your bags the night before. So much easier.

Passenger Demographics: On the Vision sailing, there were only 200 guests of the 2200 who were under the age of 55. My husband and I were in the younger group! On the Brilliance sailing, there was a nice passenger age mix and about 200 children. I was in the older group on this sailing!

Ship Size: The Brilliance is just a bit larger. Ships sailing out of Tampa cannot be very tall to fit under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (look for this about 1 1/2 - 2 hours after sailing - it's quite spectacular).

Buffet: The Windjammer is at the front of the ship on Vision and at the back of the ship on Brilliance (as on most other class ships) with an outside seating area at the back of the ship (watch out for the seagulls) and a nice 24 hour beverage area which was enclosed with lots of window views and comfy seating. Look for the sundae bar in the Windjammer during dinner.

Park Cafe (complimentary): Both have a Park Cafe in the Solarium. (I felt that) the Vision had better late night snacks with fresh fruit, salads, cheese as well as sweets, cookies and burgers, hot dogs and pizza and beverages.

Cafe Lattitudes: Both have sweet treats (complimentary) and speciality coffees (fee) and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream (fee).

Rita's Cantina (fee) - Only on Brilliance at back of ship near Windjammer's outside seating. Not a deal breaker.

Izumi, Giovanni's Table, Chops and Chef's Table (fee): Both ships have these restaurants.

MDR: Found the food (and service) in the MDR much better on the Brilliance. Both have the same menus.

Drink Packages: Found it odd that there was about a $10pp/pd difference in price in the premium and ultimate drink packages on Vision vs Brilliance. Brilliance was less on board than online too! However, about halfway through the cruise, Vision offered drink cards for $120 for 15 drinks.

Centrum Entertainment: The Vision had several nights of the short aerial and other shows in the Centrum. Did not see any on Brilliance this past cruise.

Spa & Gym: Brilliance has a larger spa and gym and the thermal spa.

Entertainment: Vision had only 2 production shows on a 10 night cruise and not one late night comedy show; Brilliance had 2 production shows on a 4 night cruise and one late night comedy show. The remaining nights had guest entertainers. The Quest was played on both cruises (funnier than the comedians). There are lots and lots of activities on both ships.

Both ships have a big movie screen on the pool deck. Brilliance also has an indoor Cinema and both show fairly recent movies.

Both have a rock climbing wall. Brilliance has putt-putt and a basketball court.

Stateroom: Overall, the staterooms are larger on Brilliance. Luckily, we had a Panorama OceanView on Vision which was 194 sq ft. with floor to ceiling window. Really loved it. On the first Brilliance cruise, we had a Jr Suite and it had a walk in closet - heaven! On the recent Brilliance, we had an Ocean View on Deck 2. it was very nice, quiet, and mid ship (about 160 sq ft) and very budget friendly.

My apologies for being so wordy. Hope this helps! Both ships are beautiful. I have Cruise Compasses for both and would be happy to share.

  9. I would always book an excursion on the maintain through your cruise line. If you don't, you will likely be on your own to coordinate the ferry and the ship won't wait for you if you don't get back in time. Also, the cruise lines may charter a ferry and have it arrive right at the dock (NCL dos this last time we were there), which saved us the trek to get to the ferry pier.

I had forgotten about the dreaded ferry! I think if we do any tours off the island, we will book through Royal Caribbean. Thanks much!

  10. It's been reported on several LOTS sailings recently that there is a drink card that shows up mid-cruise for $67 for 10 drinks. Can anyone confirm if they have seen this on other ships?

On the Nov 30-Dec 10 Vision cruise the $120 for 15 drinks was offered on Day 7 or 8 of a 10 day cruise and then the $68 for 10 drinks was offered on the 2nd to last day. It was a paper card and could be shared with anyone you wanted and could be used for any beverage alcoholic or non-alcoholic up to $14. No auto gratuity was added and each drink ordered was initialed off by the bartender. Most of the mixed drinks were $10 and $12 and most beers were $5.50 and $6.00, so the card made for a good value for us light drinkers.

  11. Ship - Vision of the Seas

    Deck - 8

    Stateroom # - 8543

Stateroom Category – Panoramic Ocean View

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – NA

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - NA

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - NA

Any specific problems with this cabin? - NA

Any other comments? - There are only 16 Panoramic OV staterooms on VOS: 8 each on Decks 7 & 8, midship and 194 sq ft in size with a full size sofa and nice sitting area. The staterooms on Deck 8 have large floor to ceiling windows (picture a balcony cabin without the balcony) and the staterooms on Deck 7 are 3/4 floor to ceiling. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an ocean view & larger stateroom for a lower price than a balcony. They are close to the Centrum and easy to watch the activities and aerial shows just outside your door. There is no noise from the Centrum either as they are tucked away and behind a wall and the door is kept closed during evening hours.
