  1. Trying to understand if you need a passport for this stop. Read the article on the NCL site and it states you don't need a passport for a closed loop cruise, but doesn't clarify if anything is needed for the stop in BC. Also realizing now that you can't do certain excursions that cross over into Canada without a passport either. Should've renewed them but wasn't going to get it back in time.

This is what I read. https://www.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/cruise-travel-documents

  2. Have a cruise booked for June 2023 for 3 that we booked late last year before our cruise next certificates expired. Booked a fake cruise yesterday and noticed it's $1900 less today. Called our PCC today and she confirmed it all. Biggest savings she said was the third person for $99 sale. Either way we're saving a lot. Doesn't hurt to check if you have something booked already.

  3. We received our upgrade notice yesterday afternoon, hitting my credit card first and then the email notice. Moved up from a mini-suite to a H4-Haven. My bid was on the upper side of poor on the meter scale so a little surprised that it was good enough to win the bid. Plus NCL website wasn't even showing our cruise because it was suppose to have been "sold out". Was very surprised that we received the upgrade notice this far out in advance of our 21st sailing date, regardless we are thrilled. Good luck to everyone else that is in the bidding process..

congrats, this is the first time I've read someone found out over 2 weeks ahead of time!!

  4. When you make requests for food and beverages what is included and what would cost extra?

Ahhh the Haven. Such good memories.

We asked for BLT and turkey sandwiches, gummie bears, m&m peanuts, meat and cheese tray, pitcher of lemon aide, extra sugar and cream and ice everyday.

Your butler will supply with you anything that is in their means. Enjoy your Haven experience!

  5. I see this now as well. I wonder if everyone sees this or just people who were sent the email.

we're 79 days out, I logged in and saw the upgrade as well. you can't miss it. I haven't gotten an email yet. By making this available in the web portal and via email notification I bet they get more people bidding instead of just those that would call the upgrade fairy.

  6. Found out there are only 8 open Haven rooms on our upcoming Escape cruise in May. Doesn't sound like good odds to be able to upgrade from a balcony. Everyone in a balcony or mini suite would be trying to upgrade to the same 8 rooms? There is nothing higher than a haven for those people to upgrade into?

  7. I recall reading that if you upgrade to a haven through the bidding, your original perks are what you get. You will not get all the free stuff that someone who paid regular price for a haven would get. My question is how would the staff in the haven restaurant or lounge know who has free drinks etc. and who doesn't?

  8. My fiancé and I will be on the Getaway in September 2014. We booked a zipline through NCL. It is in St. Thomas, called Tree Limbin' Extreme Zipline Tour.

    Hope this helps

We went to Tree Limbin Extreme while on the Getaway in March of this year. It was a blast, great views and the staff was very friendly. We took our 9 year old along and he thought it was awesome. If you have not gone before, go on the ropes course on the ship first, you end on a short zip line so you'll get the idea for when you go on your excursion.

  9. I'm a karaoke singer. I would like to know if they will allow you to bring your own disks or if you can only choose from their book.

We just got back today. We watched karaoke for a little bit one night. The system they used looked like it was an 80's DOS based program with cheesy block letters that were projected on the screen. Everyone got to pick and reserve songs from an iPad. If the song wasn't listed you could ask the person running the session for more songs. Honestly I don't know if they would play your own CD in their system. The room they run karaoke from was pretty high tech. It was in the grammy expierence room.

  10. I just want a simple picture. :D I have read that you have to be a certain height in order to be able to do the ropes course (which my little one won't be big enough yet) and read that they have a "mini" ropes course below for the little ones. However, I have yet to find a picture of it. Can you take a picture please? :)

We just got back from the Getaway today. You have to be 48 inches and there is a small mini course for kids that are too short. It was actually pretty cute seeing the little tykes on the small course. Of course there is a waiver you have to sign the first time you go on. It's worth noting to take tennis shoes along. sandals and flip flops won't fly for this. They won't let you go on. You also have to be dry. So you can't go from the pool right to the ropes course, you have to dry off first. We saw a few people be told they couldn't go.

  11. We'll be on the Getaway in March and thought about this as well. After seeing the shuttle times on the Blue Lagoon website, it didn't seem like we'd have much time there given the cost as well. Our stop is only 12 to 7 that day.

    Our boats depart for Blue Lagoon Island at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Our boats depart from Blue Lagoon Island at: 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

  12. We too booked early for the Getaway and don't get any of the recent perks. We booked early at a price we thought was fair and got to pick our room etc. Anyway, today I noticed the fare was $120 cheaper. I called NCL and spoke to our rep, he said all he could offer was an upgrade to a family balcony, no OBC. Plus to boot, he said you only get a 1 time adjustment and lose my current OBC so he recommended waiting. What is that all about? Don't they have a price guarantee policy? I think I'll just fill out the form online to get the credit.

Being a first time NCL cruiser, I'm beginning to understand the threads regarding their customer service going downhill. Seems like a lot of run around.

  13. Your getting po'd about possibly missing out on this deal won't get much sympathy (at least here on CC). This is SOP for all cruise lines - after final payment date, if the ship needs filling, the CL will do whatever it takes to fill the ship, including offering great incentives. These deals, of course, are usually offered only to new bookings. That's the way it goes. You, of course, booked when you wanted to, got what you wanted (in terms of sailing date, ship, cabin category, and perhaps specific cabin), at a price that you were happy with. By doing that, you guaranteed yourself what you wanted. Those of us who waited could easily have been locked out if the ship sold out. Or we may have been offered the leftovers in terms in cabin categories (i.e., insides only) or less desirable specific cabins.

You can still try calling your TA. The worst that can happen is you get a no.

I have to agree with you Johnql. You win some and you lose some. When we booked for the Getaway last year, we got the time, price, room location that we wanted. Now after final payment, new customers are getting better deals booking elsewhere, where we booked through NCL. A few years ago we didn't book directly through Carnival and lost out on some deals, so you just never know. It's the same as the cable company. The new guy always gets a better deal. Regardless we'll still be on a great vacation.

On a side note I did call NCL and our rep was surprised at all the incentives from other places and said there was no way he could match that or really offer anything at all.
