  1. We are booked on the Wind Spirit Athens sailing on April 30.  Second sailing after dry dock.  The following is a blog conversation I have had with Windstar. I am confused now. I sure hope it happens in March-April in Lisbon.  The December 4 week window is in Tahiti and Costa Rica, not Lisbon where they do their drydocks.

Hi, Gary, so sorry for delay in replying. I double-checked and am told the ship will undergo its refurbishment in December 2025….

Thanks for the great question! –Carolyn

Thank you for looking into that, though, I am still confused as there is nothing on the Windspirit schedule between Lisbon on March 9, 2025 and Rome on April 23rd. I was under the impression that this will be the dry dock period. If not, why the 6 week period with no sailings?

Hi, Gary, I checked on your question and this is what was told: The ship does get chartered frequently and many times back to back. Other than that, I don’t have additional information, but the drydock is definitely in December. Thanks — Carolyn

  2. As it happened, the other people did not show, so the 6 of us had a private tour. As for lunch, it was offered, but Aziz brought us to a small bakery where we were given "pita" sized loafs of bread hot out of the brick oven. It was wonderful and it filled us enough. Shortly thereafter, he brought us into an amazing outdoor covered market and we bought some olives and fruit. Probably one of the best and most memorable lunches ever!

Here are a few pics: the first one is in the cave. It is an opening that looks like the African continent. You need to rotate it. the second is the bread and bakery and the last two are in the market. I hope you enjoy tangiers as much as we did.

  3. We’ll be in Tangier for a full day during a transatlantic cruise in Nov/09. I searched CC and TripAdvisor but there’s not much info provided. Does anyone have recent experience arranging a private guide there? Any suggestions for “don’t miss” things to do? TIA.

Last year we had a wonderful guide in Tangiers. Here is the info he sent us. The van was luxurious and Aziz is a very good guide with perfect english. He kept the peddlers at a distance, and everywhere we went the locals knew him. The highlight by far was the old city. Hercules cave was also great, but only because we were the only ones there. When we were leaving, the tour busses arrived and hundreds of tourists filled the cave that we just had all to ourselves.

Here is what he sent us:

I will be very happy to organize your VIP Day Trip to Tangier on Oct 29 ,2008.

After a short drive return to Tangier for the cultural tour which will be in the Kasbah and the Medina, the oldest and the most exotic part of this mythical city. An opportunity to be in direct contact with the friendly locals! Begin your tour of the old city to visit the Kasbah taking the itinerary of Matisse, the French famous painter who stayed here between 1912 and 1913 , snake charmers, the Medina where you will enjoy the world famous Moroccan cuisine while you relax to the entertainment of Andalusian musicians and belly dancer , Gran Socco,Petit Socco,Old American Legation, founded in 1821 (the 1st National Landscape for the USA in the overseas),the Mendoubia building and Gardens (The international administration when Tangier was under-control of 8 powerful countries) and then the market for shopping.

The price per person is 35 Euros including :

What is not included is lunch and drinks, but I can book for you lunch in a moroccan typical Restaurant.

To confirm the tour please send an email or you cancall me at +212 61 26 33 35 .

At arrival in the port of Tangier I will be holding a paper on it your name.

The tour would be for around 5 hours total but I still need to know at what time the cruise ship will be arriving in Tangier.

I am looking forward to hearing from you and thank you.

    Best Regards,
