  1. Hello,

We are departing on the Jade tomorrow out of Greece. Sometimes I read about hidden things or tips on ships. A few times I have read about hidden jacuzzis that don’t get as crowded. Does the Jade have such a jacuzzi that gets less crowded?  Any other secrets, tips or pointers?  Thank you in advance.

  2. We are on the Jade departing this Sunday in Greece. Me, my wife and our 4 adult children. We upgraded all three of our rooms to a two room family suite. What benefits or perks come with this suite?  I can’t find it anywhere. It seems to me that suite perks vary quite often. Thank you.

I must admit I don't have much sympathy for someone going ahead and paying for a cruise with a final payment date in this time frame.  Then getting upset that it gets canceled.  There is enough information out there that indicates the odds of a cruise going in the next 90 days is slim to none.  And if one were to magically go, it would not resemble the originally booked cruise.

It is also clear that cruise lines are still trying to draw in more bookings, deposits, and payments.

Maybe clear to you.  But not to everyone. Especially when the cruise lines are saying they will resume cruises in June. Or when you call the actual cruise line right before you make final payment and they tell you that your Cruise is still scheduled and will happen.

I understand you're entrenched in your fox hole, as that's where you're most comfortable. Nothing I say will bring you out.

But what explanation do you have for the fact that cruises were also cancelled at the same time as yours, with final payment deadlines that hadn't come yet ?   HAL cancelled cruises based on departure dates within a specific time frame, not final payment dates.

Do you know that happened?  Because I have been reading they are cancelling cruises weekly.  Not all at once

Considering that they have canceled cruises covering a fairly wide range of dates, with a similar variety  of final payment dates I doubt that they planned to announce the cancellations based upon your final payment date.  It had to be someone's you just got the luck of the draw.

I do find it rather mind boggling that anyone is considering making their final payment for cruises before October.

To my understanding they have not cancelled all of their cruises they are cancelling them one by one. Right after final payment dates. So yeah. That is shady business.

Let's take a step back for a moment. It's doubtful that  HAL targeted your specific cruise date and deliberately waited until the day after final payment to cancel the sailing in order to benefit from your payment.

There are many moving parts to ship operations: itineraries/timing/ports/flights/CDC, etc.  If the parts don't synchronize, the cruise is cancelled or altered.  Do you truly believe that HAL looked at your final payment date, and purposely waited until the day after to cancel your cruise ?   Your sailing was one of many in a time frame that were cancelled.  For some of those cruises,  the final payment date hadn't come yet, for others it had already passed.

There's a grace period on final payment deadlines, as not  everyone makes it on time. Your theory that HAL laid in wait until the exact day after the due date doesn't really work...they missed out on getting potentially thousands of dollars from late payers.

Yes the timing was bad for you,  it's very unfortunate, and it's a mess.  I hope you find resolution through your credit card company.

Absolutely HAL waited to cancel our cruise until the day after final payment was due. You think it was a coincidence?  Yeah right. Our cruise is three months away. They knew what was going on.

Late payers........  that’s just a few people. They knew what they were doing. 3000 people on that cruise and now they get to hold their money for 3 to 6 months.  Very shady. No way to stick up for them. Nice try.

Which other cruise lines are you working with?  We're also considering cutting our ties w/ HAL.  This 60 day for FCC is not cool.  I'm also waiting 60 days for a refund on our two cancelled (before final payment) cruises.  I don't remember that happening on Celebrity a few years back.  But that was just one cruise, and not the entire cruise itinerary.

Honestly Royal Caribbean has been my favorite. We also sail carnival, NCL, celebrity and princess.

How exactly did they assure you? Did they say it was definitely going to sail, or did they say that as of that moment it was still a go? The second would be accurate. As for the first, given the situation the entire world is in, I do not see how they could give that guarantee or in fact if they did you could believe it.

They told me their cruising was resuming on June 15th and our cruise was a go.  But that’s besides the point. Our cruise is 3 months away and they just so happen to cancel it the day after final payment was due?...  they knew exactly what they were doing.

Maybe you never experienced a REAL cash flow problem in your life?? Like no food on the table??

Actually I have. But I never stole or did anything dirty. I have honor and integrity. That is how I run my many companies. I take responsibility for my myself, my companies and my actions.

  10. So HAL waited until the day after final payment was due on our cruise for August and then cancelled it. Then proceeds to tell you it will take 90 days to get your refund. That is dirty, wrong and bad business.  We called them the day before and they assured us our cruise was a go so we allowed the final payment. Then the next day I get an email saying our cruise is cancelled. They took $20k from me and will keep it for 90 days along with everyone else on that ship.  I know exactly what they are doing and it is wrong. My cruise was cancelled on two other lines and they didn’t pull this kind of shady stuff. HAL will never get another penny of my money. I am sure the cheerleaders will defend them but how do you defend this?  They are getting desperate. Anybody that chooses a FCC you maywant to think again. I think they are in trouble to pull this kind of shady stuff.

Really?  Right now insurance agencies are not covering anything related to Covid-19 for trip cancellation or travel medical. By August a lot would have to happen to change this situation.

I am fine. I am self insured. I can assure you there are no worries in that department.

Very doubtful.......our son's Memorial weekend wedding is moved now to August 30th.....now this is 100 person guest list and we're not sure about that.  I'd be more confident in cruising for 2021........but hoping we can this year.

where was the wedding to be and did you cancel it or the venue?

IF your cruise does happen -- don't be surprised if there are port changes.  Will you be happy with the changes?

Yes. Different ports are fine. I would not want to see less ports. We like to get off the ship as much as possible and on this 14 day cruise there is only 2 or 3 sea days.

  14. We are scheduled for a two week cruise out of Amsterdam on the Nieuw Statendam. Departure date is August 2nd. Thoughts on if this will happen or not?  We are going to go if the ship sails. Will all the ports be open?  If the ship doesn’t sail we will take out flight and do a road trip. Will that be possible?

The 2 that can not go.   Simply opt for the REFUND.   That refund- returns back to original payment source.

Sorry- no-  you can’t have it both ways.    If you’re thinking of giving the funds- with the bonus to someone else.       Exceptions involved children-  only -  what I’ve seen.

But doesn't hurt to call and ask.

yes they are all my children and I paid for everything on my credit card. I will call and ask. Thank you.

  16. So NCL finally sent us an email and cancelled our Alaskan cruise for June 7th. So they are offering a full refund or 125% credit and 20% off our next cruise if we book it now. Here is my issue. I paid for three cabins on my credit card but they won’t issue the cruise credit to me. It has to be in the passengers name. It’s like they are pushing us to the cruise credit but won’t work with us. I paid for the cruise on my credit card. Doesn’t make sense. Two of the passengers in one of the cabins can’t go with us any other time. So now I don’t know what to do. Does anybody have any experience with this cancelled cruise credit?  Maybe a trick or some rules that may help my situation.   It’s a good deal but since two of the people can’t go on another cruise I will take two other people but they won’t let me use the cruise credits for them. I hope all that made sense.

  17. I had read the NCL was trying to get a pass for this summer stating they do not have to stop in a foreign port. We only have a short stop in Canada. During the Swine Flu we had a cruise to Mexico. We anchored shortly offshore and sat there for the day and then left. They were somehow able to get around the foreign port rule that way.

  18. We are scheduled to cruise from Seattle to Alaska on June 7th. I have read most cruise lines have cancelled but NCL has not cancelled yet. Any hopes of them not cancelling?  Why have they not cancelled yet?

Any thoughts on rebooking for mid-July?
