  1. In Amsterdam --if you like B&B's check out Kamer 01. Great location on one of the canals and can easily walk almost everywhere. Only has a few rooms; we like the suite on the ground floor. It is run by two gentlemen who are a real 'hoot' and they provide a great breakfast every morning

  2. We always board around Noon---no problem

We were on the Ovation this past May and the Wifi was better (not great) than it was last October---perhaps we got lucky or they are really working on it.

We stay in one of the Penthouse Spa Suites and enjoy breakfast in the suite almost every day. It is nice to not be rushed to get dressed and there is enough variety for ordering--including asking for some things not on the order card.

Definitely consider having at least one dinner in the suite--nice after a long day out and you do not feel like getting changed and cleaned up--sitting in a T shirt and shorts (weather permitting) on the balcony or in the room watching a movie can make for a nice quiet relaxing evening. They will serve the meal all at once or course by course if you want to spread it out

  3. We have been in the Penthouse Spa suites on the Encore twice now---both times it was one of the outside/corner ones. We love the wrap around balcony and the view it provides when sitting outside is great. Much wider than the inside suites. We will be on the Ovation in May 2019 and again booked a corner suite.

Only trouble is that once you try it going back to a 'regular' cabin is difficult and as far as 'she who must be behaved' is not going to happen--so beware

  4. I am joining this 'party' late --however wanted to provide a good outcome at the TK Grill. We were on the Encore this past February for a New Zealand/Australia cruise. We ate at the Grill the second night out; the meal was fine but there was a mix up in providing me a decaf cappuccino with dessert. No big deal. It finally got sorted out and I thought that was the end of it.

Two nights later we were enjoying a cocktail in the TK bar and Ivan the maitre d' came over to us to apologize for the problem and invited us to dine in the Grill at that time; we did not have a reservation but accepted the gracious offer. Service was impeccable.

We ate there again later in the cruise and again Ivan made sure all was well, coming over several times (not too many however) to check on the food and service.

This is one of the reasons we continue to book on Seabourn--

  5. I have been undergoing chemo treatment for cancer since early november. I have been tolerating it fairly well from a nausea standpoint and taking excellent care of myself and have no other health problems. One of the things that i really love to do is travel and my boyfriend surprised me with a trip on Seadream (my all-time favourite cruise ship) Jan 16-23. The timing is perfect because it falls between two of my treatments (i'm starting on Taxol after 6 weeks on AC for those of you in the know) and I really need to get away from my routine and see the sunshine and look at the ocean.

Here's my worry: is the ocean motion going to be very taxing to me? I don't have much nausea but there is always some on chemo. We took one of the last remaining cabins- it is on Deck 3. Should I ask to be somewhere specific on that deck?

Anyone have familiarity with that route (St-Martin to Barbados) that has good tips for me and "the condition my condition is in" (the Big Lebowski).

This will be my first Seadream cruise stone cold sober (quelle shame) but I am guessing plenty of other people have had a lot of fun on board being dry.

What sort of weather should I expect at that time of year in that region? In the past, I have always opted to eat out in the evenings as much as possible. Is it too chilly to do so in January?

As you can see, I am excited but trepidatious and don't want to repay my kind boyfriend by being a terrible cruiser... especially since he has never been on one!

    Any input welcome!

I am a retired physician and have done the route you are taking. Usually not any heavy seas. I would recommend checking with your oncologist and if no contraindication take 25 mg of meclazine nightly starting the night prior to the cruise-- less sedating than other meds and less side effects during the day

  6. My husband and I are taking this 10 day trip in September. Any advice on the Shore Excursions offered for this trip? We are in good shape, fairly active;

these are the ports…Quebec City, Saguenay, Baie-Comeau, Gaspe, Halifax and Bar Harbor.

    Thanks for any recommendations!

We did this cruise in 2013---very enjoyable. We found a private guide (through Tours by Locals) in Quebec and got a good overview of the city's history with a walking tour. Well worth it and you are on your own time and schedule..

  7. We have sailed on both SeaDream and Seabourn (both Sojourn and the sisters). We prefer Seabourn as the cabins were larger and food choices more diverse. The alcohol choices were also better as was the overall service. There is also more public space on Seabourn, especially the larger ships.

Also, we did have some 'problems' with groups on SeaDream twice. The first time the ship was chartered out from under us. SeaDream was accommadating in that they covered all charges we had already paid including airfare and helped us rebook another cruise later at a significant savings. This was however disrupting to our schedules.

When we did take the SeaDream cruise there was a group of 15-16 younger folks (late 20's to early 30's) who tended to be a bit loud at times, drink a bit too much, and take up areas. This on a smaller ship that has 110 passengers.

SeaDream is more casual than Seabourn which can be a plus especially in the Caribbean.

In general I think SeaDream is more for the younger crowd and Seabourn for the more mature of us.

  8. Is this thread still operative? Is there someone out there who needs a referral coupon? Please respond with your email address so I can contact you directly. This assumes, of course,, that you are preparing for your first Seabourn cruise and have not made your final payment.

I am getting ready to book a Caribbean cruise on the Sojourn for this December and would appreciate obtaining a referral coupon if anyone still has one. My email address is Tubykat@aol.com.

    Thanks in advance
