  1. Hi all,

Going on my first cruise as a mom. My mom, myself, and my 2 year old son will all be going on Oasis in May. My child’s father and I are not married. In the state I reside in unwed mother’s have full custody. Do I need a signed document permitting me to take my son on this cruise or will this not be an issue? ETA my child and I do not share the same last name.

    Thank you!

    Laura

  2. Hi all,

I am considering the February 3rd cruise on Independence out of FLL. I’ve never cruised in winter before so have some questions.

Would it be warm enough to swim on Grand Cayman and Cozumel this time of year?

My son will be 2 at the time of this cruise, if a kids sale free promo comes up would this date be included?

i also realize my son will not be able to get in the pool or go to kids clubs 😊

I get worried about being sick this time of year but I guess that’s more out of my hands.

I am considering doing an ocean view guarantee, which I’ve never done before. Anything I should be leery of when doing a guarantee?

Thanks for any help! I’ve cruised several times but never in winter and never with a kid so it’s sort of all new for me again.

  3. Not sure what you pay in Ohio but on my June trip on the Grandeur I paid

$40.00 for two liters of Crown Royal Black which is an excellent buy.

As for the sale, it isn't on all brands. Prices remained the same on the whiskey and scotch. I could do just as well on the Gin and Vodka in the state of DE.

$40 is around one bottle here for Crown so I will definitely buy early then get a price adjustment if necessary. Thank you everyone!

  4. I didn't find liquor prices to be that great on board. There's a slight discount and if you have room in your suitcase it's no biggie to buy it, but I wouldn't go out of your way to lug it back home. They had a lot of "2 bottles for $xx" deals on all the liquor, and it seems to save about $10 or less total than buying 2 bottles of crown at home. If you have a Costco with a liquor store in your town, you can buy crown for the same price or less than on the ship. I don't recall the exact price but I made a point to look at prices before we cruised so I could compare...I came home with no liquor, as I found I'd save about $2, which wasn't worth the hassle of wrapping it and lugging it in an already full suitcase.

Thank you. Crown costs about $35 here and I read online on a Carnival cruise prices could be $21.99 which is a good discount. I was curious how prices were on Royal. It's a Canadian and NE cruise so I know discounts at the ports are not going to happen.

  5. Hi everyone,

We are sailing on the Grandeur on the 17th and I'm wondering what the liquor prices are on board? I've heard they are good but I'm interested in Crown, Jameson, and Bacardi. Is there a particular day that is best to buy liquor and will they do a price adjustment if it goes cheaper? This is the first cruise I've been on where I've wanted to buy liquor so sorry for the ignorance.

    Thank you everyone!

  6. Let's see - East coast board, no Freeports west of Texas, and Freeport ME is 20mins drive from Portland ME - contextually I'm 100% certain OP means Maine...

Amtrak Downeaster if the times work for you; local merchants association otherwise recommend taxi from Portland. Either way, if all you want to do is hit the outlet malls - for there are very, very few other reasons to visit Freeport in preference to staying in Portland - you're likely going to blow more on transport than you save at the malls in this day & age of online shopping... enjoy Portland instead and order Stuff when you're at home.

Not the outlet malls...want to visit the L.L.Bean home store. Thank you for your advice :)

  7. I received my shoes on Friday. They are very comfortable. I have a wide foot and ordered a wide and they are a bit less wide than I would have hoped but not terribly so. Clarks wide widths fit me well and these are a bit narrower than those. I am keeping them. They are very well made!

  8. Why do you think you have dry skin? Is it because you have dry flaky patches or something else? There are several symptoms of oily skin that cause many people to believe their skin is dry. Do you wear a lot of makeup to cover the acne? It has been my experience, and I have worked in the cosmetic industry for almost 40 years, that many water activated washes simply don't remove all of the makeup completely and the residue remains in the pores and aggravates acne. A good test to see how effectively you cleanser is working is to use as usual and then take a cotton ball soaked in toner and see what happens. If the cotton ball remains white, then great, but if traces of makeup come off then your cleanser is not removing everything. Seeing a dermatologist is the best move you can make.

My skin is tight after washing and there are dry patches if I do not moisturize. It also looks flaky in those areas even after moisturizing. I rarely wear any facial makeup any more.

  9. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I use a Kroger version of Cetaphil and I use Cetaphil lotion. Maybe I'll try the real version of the face wash.

I have used benzyl peroxide and it has irritated my skin. I still use it for really bad pimples.

My acne isn't nearly bad enough to warrant accutane. I get maybe 15 pimples a month. I don't know how bad my acne would have to be to convince me to take accutane because I do not want to go on a hormonal birth control plus all of the side effects that accutane has.

    Thanks again!
