  1. Hi Mary, When are you and Joe going on another cruise? I'm on the Gem this week-end, and then it's back to Deming. I wish I remembered to load up on the slot coupons, but I guess the easy life in NM made me too relaxed to hurry-up and do things. Maybe I'll see you at WM in town, or catch Joe at the "Future" casino down the road from you. Take care, R.A. and the gato negro.

  2. Well' I probably won't bring, (smuggle) the wine, but I WAS thinking of bringing my own slot machine, or maybe towing a small boat behind with tour operators, so that I won't have to pay for the "high" prices that the ship charges for their tour packages. "Let us toast the fools; but for them the rest of us could not succeed"...Samuel l. clements

  3. After you get them, you'd best try to find a place to smoke 'em. It's getting harder and harder to find places to light up. You can't smoke in your cabin, (on any ship), and soon you won't be able to smoke on your balcony, (on NCL) Glad I gave 'em up 30 years ago, hack, hack, choke, choke. hahahaha. btw, the Marlboros are always fresh.

  4. I wonder,....if I DO get caught, (not saying I'm gonna do it), will they,..wink, wink, nudge, nudge, toss it away because it's out of the box, or will they return it at the end of the cruise. I probably will shy away from the whole thing b/c I'M NOT the one drinking it. I was just wondering....sigh.

  5. I knew this would happen. I just wanted a simple answer, and I opened a whole (cardboard) box of worms. Thanx to you all for your help, and for all the laughs. I really asked for it! "Let us toast to the fools: but for them the rest of us could not succeed" .....samuel l. clements R.A. and the Cat

  6. Quick question, has anyone successfully brought a box of wine aboard without any problem. I don't want to start a long forum, nor do I want to be flamed. I just have that quick question, and a simple answer is all I need. Thanx, in advance.:)

  7. Can I visit the casino at Atlantis to do some gambling without any kind of day pass? And can I walk there from the ship? I'm not a big beach person, as much as I like the sun. I know that it's pretty hard to get tanned in the casino, hahaha. Rusty A.

  8. You could go to cruiserooms.com. Do a little scrolling, and you'll find what you want. I'm in 8602. I was in 8096 last year, and was very happy. I wrote a piece about it some time in may, I think. Have a great cruise. R.A. and the cat

  9. Didn't mean to sound ungrateful, just didn't want to have outsized expectations. I think I may have received that status via a close friend of a NCL exec. I feel very fortunate, in fact.

Does your friend need another friend? I'm leaving in sept, and I could use a few "perks" I have about 3 more 7day cruises to get to a good status.

  10. I'm glad that someone brought this up. I have been sailing almost entirely solo since 1977, and i really enjoy the ability to go when and where i want. BUT, occaaionally, I invite someone to go along because I hate the double fare for going solo. Only on a couple of trips did I enjoy the company of a friend. As most of you have mentioned, you all like the company, but would rather be able to roam around on your own, with no set times for anything. I'm taking a buddy with me in sept. on the Gem who is a real PITA, but that is his thing. I'm not the easiest guy to get along with either, and it works out well for the both of us. It still is the best way to travel, .....on your own. Sorry about the long story. btw, his wife has blessed me for taking him away for a week:D R.A.and the cat.

  11. Although it is often the first night it isn't always. On our Panama Canal cruise on the Star it was up to the chef and was held on one of the last nights of the cruise.

Mary, when are you and Joe taking your next cruise? You're gonna forget what a ship looks like, hahaha. I haven't seen Joe at the smoke shop lately. Is everything okay. I'm leaving Deming next wed, 5/14 for boston. I will be on another ncl trip in sept. (gem) See you around town when I get back in Oct....... R.A. and the gato negro. Take care.:D ps....Happy Mom's day!!!

  12. Not for nothing, but I wouldn't be filling up my Rum Runners in the near future. I'm almost sure that there has to be at least one person over 21/25 per cabin, or per family. I'm sure that you will be hearing from some more cruisers that will have the correct answers for you. Not the answers that you want to hear, but answers. I hate to be the party-pooper, but, the cruiselines know all the tricks, and laws....jes sayin'. R.A. and the Cat:D

  13. I have been bringing a case, (24) of Busch NA on board for the last 50-60 cruises, From ncl, ccl, rci, princess, and others that I have cruised. I put the 2 12packs together with lots of Duct tape, stick a luggage tag on it and give it to the baggage handlers. It has never failed to get to my cabin. On a few occasions, I had to carry it on board myself, bc no one had an answer to whether it was OK to take along. I would not do this, but the lines refuse to carry O'Doules. NCL and CCL both have Buckler's,....Yech. I have also picked up n/a at different port stops. Most time, they don't bother with the n/a brews. I'm not bragging about bringing the stuff with me, I'm just telling it like it is. R.A. and the cat

  14. I looked up where the cabin is, and "It ain't a pretty sight". Not to fear though, the cabin is almost above the LB, so there is plenty of light, and sight. I dug up my tix from last sept, and found out that I was in 8094. How many are in your cabin? Two is comfy, but more may be slightly cramped. Hope the waves are flat, and the sun stays shining. RA and the Cat:)

  15. I was all set,....I had to catch a bus from MA, going to NY. My girl and I had all the driving instructions to get to the bus terminal, yep, we had it all, except that we were lost,....totally lost. We had another person driving, and berween the three of us, we had no plan. I called the bus company, because we were allready late, but no answer. (It was sunday) I called the state police for directions, but still could not get our bearings. Rigt about now, you can guess that the trip was in the past, and we were heading back on the road. All of a sudden, the phone rang, and it was the bus company manager, who calmly led us to the bus yard. Yes, the bus DID leave, but he called it back. At the end, all was well, and the cruise was great. My gf beat the stuffing out of me, but I made it. Btw, the bus driver got a well deserved tip, and I am still using the same bus line again in sept. (A big thank you to Academy Bus Lines) R.A. and the Cat:D

  16. Hi, Rusty Alligator, I was not able to find an earlier post from you on this thread. The one I am looking at here only has 5 posts on it. I was, however, able to find a picture of 8586 on the web site you referenced and it looks like it should be the same as 8086. Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

Sorry that I misled you about the post. It was another thread, down a few...Obstructed View cabin" from cruiseline. :o

  17. Thanks for the tips Rusty Alligator!

So, I checked and we are in 8572. Now i'm hoping it has *some* light. Wish there was a good place to find photos!

Your welcome. You can look at "cruiserooms.com" and look for any sister ship, as they are almost the same. Have you gone to the NCL site and pulled up the floor/deck plans yet?. It will show you your cabin, and how much the lifeboat blocks your window...if any. R.A. and the Cat:D

  18. Hi, has anyone stayed in the Obstructed View rooms on the Star. We are looking at 8086. Does anyone have a picture of the view from this room?

    Thanks in advance.

You could check out my earlier post, above, and if you are ambitious, go to "cruiserooms.com". If you are good at searching, you can find what you're looking for. It may be a sister ship, but the cabins are almost the same. I was in cat OK cabin last year, It was fine. R.A. and the cat:cool:

  19. I've booked an obstructed oceanview on deck 8 of the Jewel for Alaska this summer (don't remember the exact cabin #).

I'm considering upgrading to a balcony (price is an issue), but would love to hear opinions from others.

Any idea what deck 8 obstructed oceanviews are like? Anyone have pics?! Would love any opinions from the community.

    Thanks!

I was in one last sept/13, I think it was 8096.(on the Gem) They call them "Sideways" cabins. I thougt that it was perfect for me, as I usually travel solo. The view varies with each cabin, to being almost blocked, to having a fairly good view. I booked it for the light coming in. There is plenty of room for storage, a small but sufficient refrig, counter space, and walk around room. I found that the "hopper" was a little cramped, but big enough for the "average" person. If anyone is more than "portly", they will find really tight quarters. The enclosed shower is just fine. I liked the area as well, with the Blue Lagoon being only steps away, for people like me who enjoy alternate dining, aka, being too lazy to go hunt my food. hahaha I am booked for 9/6 on the Gem, but I am taking my HP friend, and are using a HP cabin. We were lucky to get one only a few doors down from the BL, on the same deck, (8) You can find fotos of the cabin....somewhere, but I haven't as yet. Good luck, and happy cruising. R.A. and the cat:)

  20. Can't speak for others, but I'm sure not obsessed with CHOGS. When I go to the Lido deck, and wish to sit, any chair that does not have a body in it is free to use.

Thats' the way I look at it. I hesitate at first, then ask if anyone IS using it, then I have a lounger. When I leave, if the chog isn't back yet,....I have a blue towel too. Simple. I once met a guy and wife, who told me that they take an extra folding suitcase with them, just for the towels. I wouldn't go that far.
