  1. I called the Casino at Sea number on Jan 4 since that is who I booked thru. My balcony cabin for late March reduced about $200/person. I asked if they were doing any OBC or price reduction even though I know we are past the 100% cancellation period. She put me on hold and when she came back she said they could not do an upgrade from balcony to club balcony as the club balcony price had not reduced enough. I told her again I was interested in either a reduction in my Balcony price or possibly some On Board credit and not upgrade to Club Balcony as they are all under pool or buffet area. Put me on hold and then came back and told me they could do neither but maybe some Future Cruise Credit. I asked her how much. Once again back on hold. When she came back she verified my phone & email and said someone would be getting back to me within 7 days. Sometimes I would rather they just say no rather than someone will get back to you. So, if I don't get contacted with 7 days will I go through this again on the phone? Just takes more of my time and their time. 45 minutes already spent from me, the employee, and the supervisor.

    They love a number.

As with channel 9, I couldn't find much to argue about. Even the "covid riddled" phrase isn't exaggerated in this case. Still, their first coverage said "we are hearing 800", but subsequent reports are quoting 800. Someone on social media has quoted that number, so they will run with it, and it is monkey see, monkey do between all of the news outlets.

I get the feeling someone has done the tables in corridor maths and about 400 tables has become about 800 infections, but it isn't that simple. It is extremely unlikely that Majestic will have announced an actual number.

Still, not to get hung-up with the number, the ship has gone from being healthy to tier 3 in a matter of 11 days, and that spells having little control over the spread of the virus aboard. Officers aboard need to be able to see what is happening with passenger hygiene, because blind Freddy can. To just assume there is no covid until a few passengers have tested positive is very short-sighted, and then the horse has bolted. I look around on the previous cruise, and so many just don't give a rats about the health of those around them, and way too hard to be bothered covering a cough or a sneeze. The Aussie media are not the problem.

From the Sydney Morning Herald they have a quote from Carnival affirming the 800 number- "Speaking to reporters shortly before 9am, Carnival Australia president Marguerite Fitzgerald confirmed that in the “vicinity” of 800 COVID-19 cases had been recorded on the New Zealand voyage, and the majority were among guests, plus a small number of crew members."

  3. Yeah they are updating lots of changes. Spirit and Splendor heading to the US for the summer. Someone said they've been sitting near Dubai waiting to be deployed. They were suppose to go to Australia but Carnival cxld both ships- Splendor 6/10/22-9/26/22 and Spirit 6/5/22-10/5/23. So they have to update all the cancelled cruises for the summer for the 2 ships. My Splendor cruise out of Australia in Nov 2022 is missing online even though it is not part of the cancelled time period.

Looks like the (protective) bubble has burst.  Kinky Boots and Choir of Man shut down for who knows how long.

I missed this info. When did this happen? NCL's letter says they expect all onboard activities to continue. That sure makes it sound like the big shows are still happening.

  5. Has there been any talk about people in these last 3 Encore cruises that tested positive before boarding and being denied? It's not even the Covid being the issue for this topic- it's the luggage. Everyone talks about dropping off luggage with porter BEFORE going for the test. If you tested positive, your luggage is gone for a week. Are people allowed to bring their luggage in to the testing area? October 9 can't come fast enough.

  6. Since this issue with Ward Cove probably will not get better before the end of the 2021 Alaska cruises in mid/late October, I sure wish they could just try to use the downtown docks for these next 10 weeks or so. They simply are not ready. I am amazed that the 2022 new schedule for Bliss has Ketchikan from 630am to 115pm- an even shorter day.

  7. Whether we are eating in a main dining room, Cagneys, Le Bistro, etc (any sit-down restaurant on board), when we place our order my husband tells the server that he'll be wanting the sugar free dessert. If there is not one on the menu they still come up with one. You won't get selections but they have never failed to bring him one. Sometimes they just go to another kitchen to get it. By telling them at the beginning of the meal they have time to do whatever they need to.

what happens if your result is positive and you already dropped off of your luggage? how do you get your bags back?

Great Question! Since it was recommended to drop off luggage at the ship prior to going to the testing, how would you get your luggage back? I assume it's already gone aboard with all the others by that time. Since there are occasional false positives and if you have to quarantine and you don't have your luggage, that's alot of negatives at one time. Bird- do you happen to know this or if maybe the Hotel Manager knows?

  9. We've been on 15 cruises (NCL and Carnival) and only 1 trip that I can remember they took our passports and gave them back the night before getting off. That was a cruise from Singapore with stops in Thailand and Malaysia. I agree with MyHeartCruising above on how it happens.

  10. I keep hearing that people love the aft cabins to watch the wake but I'm the opposite. I find watching the same scene constantly kind of boring. I definitely prefer a standard balcony where I can see land better (at times) or a whale breaching or one time a huge school of dolphins that looked like they were racing the ship. Also depending on the port you get to watch the port operations when docked and they can be interesting. No right or wrong on this issue.

  11. I am Latitudes Platinum level. With that you get 2 free Specialty dinners. One dinner is "Dinner for 2 at Cagneys or LeBistro" and the other dinner is "Moderno or La Cucina". I am also booked on an offer that gives me 2 more free Specialty dinners. So, I have 4 dinners total. For the 1st dinner I will take Cagneys. For the 2nd dinner it is more confusing. The Encore does not have a Moderno or La Cucina so what restaurants do we get to choose from for that 2nd Platinum dinner? Then there are the 3rd and 4th which just say Specialty and I don't find anymore info. What are the options of which restaurant those can be in? I see in total they have Ocean Blue, Onda, Cagneys, Food Republic, Teppanyaki, Los Lobos, Le Bistro, and Texas Smokehouse. I doubt they are all options for the free included dinner. Please don't respond and say "I guess" or "I think" as I can do that.

I asked from my rep at Casinos at Sea when booking and he did not know. He told be to email the Latitudes office and gave me the email. After several days- no response. I want to book my dinners now to get most available times but can't find what the options are, Thanks!

  12. Sometimes it just depends on how many of each category they have sold. If they have sold a higher percentage of MA than MB then there might be a bigger gap. For example if they have 50 MA and sold 40 MA vs having 50 MB and sold 10 MB, then the MA might be quite a bit more than MB since there is a larger demand. It's not always about the view/benefits of the cabin. Also you have to consider which is better for you on this ship. All the MA and MB on the Jade are on Deck 11 so you have either the pool area or buffet above 90% of these cabins so not always preferential due to noises. I'm in a 14 night MA on the Jade later this month and hoping I chose my cabin # well.

Also, the big difference on price is not on all of these. For example, look at MA and MB for the Nov 28, 2019 Jade. They are both $3149 so no difference in price at all.

  13. I've been asked by NCL booking agents if anyone traveling has allergies. Until now it was a no but now was diagnosed with a dairy allergy and things are definitely better if I stay away from it.  What does NCL do with the information? Do the waiters have the info since they swiped your card upon entry? Do they have things like Lactaid milk and/or ice cream? This allergy thing is new to me. I just planned to stay away from certain foods but thought I'd see others experience with this.

  14. We get the basic card on each cruise. My husband orders Champagne or Prosecco and gets it free. I order a vodka martini and I get it free. I don't get choice of vodka but that is fine with me. Be friendly with the server in the casino and don't forget to tip them each time.

  15. It's been so long I almost forgot all the turmoil about whether this cruise was going to happen or not due to some cancels on earlier dates. It looks like NCL has filled in 4 of the last 6 missing days. That 4 day charter is about twice the price of what I am paying for the 14 day Transatlantic. Color me happy.

Apr 1-12 RT Miami for Western Caribbean

Apr 12-16 RT Miami for "Runaway to Paradise with Jon Bon Jovi" charter

Apr 16-18 I cannot find any cruise listed but must be moving ship from Miami to NYC

Apr 18-28 RT NYC for Bahamas & Bermuda

Apr 28-May 12 NYC to Rome Transatlantic

    Hey Korlad:

I am booked on the Jewel late next year and have been hunting for information on the refurbishments. Can you tell me where you ran across the information on the Penthouse Suite redecoration? (We'll be in 10664 by the way).

I agree, the Jewel's furnishings are very outdated and, I have heard, badly worn. We were in the Pearl's aft penthouse suites last month, which were refreshed a year or so ago, and the colors are nice and neutral now.

Here is where I got some info on the refurbishment. One item I read on another site (can't remember where) is that all the coffeemakers were going to be switched out too. I don't care the type of coffeemaker, just provide quality coffee is all I want. I really like the new color scheme. If I have one of those plastic trees in my cabin like in the past I may have to ask to have it removed.
