  1. I would totally agree with the suggestion that you do a ship tour. Port Klang is a considerable distance from Kuala Lumpur. We were on a ship tour there a few years ago. The bus left the Towers shopping center around 5ish in the afternoon. We got caught in a major traffic jam. We arrived back at the ship about 1 hour AFTER sailing time. Fortunately for us, the ship was still sitting there waiting for us!

Oh my goodness, yes that's what I've read about. Typically we like privates, but in this case we will feel much better with the ships tour :)

Did you see the Batu caves on your excursion to Kuala Lumpur?

  2. We are first time travellers to Asia and are sailing on the Mariner of the Seas visiting Singapore, Port Kelang, Penang and Langkawi in October.

I would be grateful for any advice on where to visit and which excursions to try so as to make the most of our time. Many thanks.

    Hi Gath,

This will be our first time to Asia as well, we won't be there until Jan, but from the research I've done on Port Klang, I have been advised by many to do the ships tour especially if your wanting to go into Kuala Lumpur as the traffic can be pretty bad.

    Hope this helps

  3. Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed my review.

We did the first dog sledding of the day. When I called to book the person I spoke with suggested it. He said to book an early one in case the weather was bad and it would have to be canceled there would be a possibility to get on a later one. As it was, only one more went up after U.S. And then they cancelled the rest for that day. The ships tours all cancelled.

The books were just unlined rubber rain boots. I thought lined would be too warm in August. They were great and kept my feet totally dry.

For the whale watch we also booked the first one of the day. The vendor we used does two a day. I personally like to do my tours first thing so that I have the rest of the day to do what I want.

Thank you so very much for the info!! Your review will be very helpful to all of us first timers in Alaska.

Really looking forward to our trip :)

  4. Just loved your review and all of your amazing photos!! We are booked on Celebrity Millennium next August, first time to Alaska and your review has helped so much in our planning.

A couple of questions for you:

    1) what time did you do the dog sledding? I'm wondering if it makes a difference

    2) are those rain boots lined?

    3) did you do morning or afternoon for the whale watch?

You may have already mentioned these things in your review if so I missed it :)

Thanks again for sharing your fabulous journey with all of us!

    Deb

  5. We had two days in KL on a holiday cruise this year, on News Year's day and the day after.

So that we didn't have to make the trip back and forth to the ship, we booked a hotel room in the city using Hilton Honors points at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur -- and it fabulous (highly recommend, see photos here:)

We liked our van taxi driver from the port (you have to request and pay extra for a van, totally worth it for 4 people) that we hired him to drive us to all of the places that we wanted to visit the next day. (We wanted to visit the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves and the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall with its Egyptian-inspired sphinx architecture.) You could cover all of these in a single day from port if you got going early, and had an advance reservation for the Petronas Towers (make online). Here are photos and details from our day, which we really enjoyed: http://www.travelingwiththejones.com/2015/01/31/exploring-kuala-lumpur-by-taxi-from-port-kelang-malaysia/

Really enjoyed your pictures of Batu caves, etc. We will be on Celebrity Millenium Jan 2016, one of the stops will be Port Klang but not overnight, we dock at 8:30 and leave at 5:30. Want to see the Batu caves, you mentioned that you must request a van, do you need to request ahead of time and if so how does one go about that? We are traveling with another couple so there will be 4 of us. Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  6. October55:

    I appreciate your suggestion.

When did you utilize Coral Breeze Tours?

I ask because, according to the Belize board, they used to be good but are now getting flamed big time.

Hi Caribbeanbound, we are on this cruise as well :D

We had a tour booked with them last year for Belize, they cancelled the tour with no notice:mad: Had I not emailed them to confirm 1 day prior to us leaving for the cruise I wouldn't have know until we arrived in Belize! Hope this helps.
