For the cruise we will be on next month?  That is the Koningsdam, October 18.  Changes are on October 22 and 23.  Originally we had Ravenna on October 23 (changed to Rijeka), and later in the month, an overnight in Valletta.  Another change was that Valletta was changed to just a day (October 28) and Naples was added on the 30th.  I am running out of printer paper!😀

Just to add, I'm happy about Korcula - looks much nicer than Rijeka...

we on the konnigsdam 28 day cruise in june and  changed from ravenna to rijeka , was a waste of time everybody on board said same thing hence further change ??? we had a second port in malta a nd naples replaced it . were advised of change i think about april 2019 probably takes a while to change  ports with legal requirements  etc.

  3. Hi. I boarded the Vista yesterday in Amsterdam after two days at the Movenpick booked through Avalon. Others on my cruise were booked at the Movenpick independently, and Avalon met all of us in the lobby and transferred us and our luggage to the boat around 10:30 AM. We had lunch on board and then went on to our pre-booked excursion at 1:00 PM.

Avalon did send me the docking information ( twice) too, but I think they probably sent the form letter to everyone, not knowing where people were staying or when they would be arriving in Amsterdam. When I checked in to the hotel, I was told that Avalon would be there around 10AM on embarkation morning.

You should probably confirm that Avalon is using the same hotel where you are staying.

Hi we booked 2 days on our own in paris and wondering what time to board for tapestry 2 grand France south bound 2 nd june 2018 .I see we get notified though the "my avalon site " where the ship will be berthed but havent been told what is the earliest you can drop your bags off does anyone know ??

  4. Avalon use to do meeting points for all their cruises but just made the change this year to direct embarkation except for cruises that are farther from the airport. Ex. Basel & Weisbaden.. those will meet up at the airport hotel typically and transfer to the ship. With the change, your dox will come with your possible docking locations and at 24 hrs prior to embarkation your docking location will be set and published online for you or your travel agent to see here https://www.avalonwaterways.com/ports.aspx

hi we are on grand france south bound on 2 nd june this year . we have booked 2 night in paris before cruise ourselves ,will avalon pick bags up from our hotel ?? with this new arrangement not sure what will happen ??

i suppose we will be notified when berth is confirmed ?

  5. Hi we are on the Grand france south bound on 2 june this year .

We are wondering what hotel they use as meeting point before boarding the ship ?

As we are staying in paris a couple of days before, wondering how earily in the day we can drop our bags of so we can continue our look around paris ?

on our last avalon last year from amsterdam we were picked up at the airport and didnt see our bags till we got to our cabin on the ship ?? any help would be appreciated or possible suggestion ??

  6. we did same cruise last june the hotel avalon used was right by the dock . we were meet at the airport (we had to meet at a certain point in the airport)and transported to the hotel and told we could wait there or go into amsterdam but be back by i think it was 4pm so we all could go to the ship together. they took our bags at airport and never saw them again till we were on board the ship.enjoy your trip the staff exceptional. I am on gluten free diet and the waiter would meet me at door of the dinning room with freshly baked bread .and all menu s were adapted for me .

  7. we did amsterdam to budapest last june and every night about 6.45pm everybody would meet in lounge to get a briefing of next days activities by the cruise director and this was a good way of breaking ice with fellow passengers you hadnt meet yet , as most people would invite you to join them for dinner

  8. Had shared earlier in January as we were preparing for our first river boat and Avalon sailing. It was for the Mekong River!!

Now we are back!! Well-pleased with Avalon, the ship, staff, food, tours, etc. On my live/blog, there are dozens of pictures and many details to document these fun adventures and travels. Happy on the live/blog to answer any and all questions, share more info/background, etc.

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

hi we are considering this trip next year early feb what are the temperature like at this ttime ?

Also is there any problems with low water levels ??

    thanks peter

  9. To quote one Captain "the only difference between the two is the art work".

As the crew interchange between the two ships this has further ensured that guests feel absolutely no difference between the two.

hi , I am interested in a med cruise next year to work in with river cruise but not what Azamara compares with .As we are not one's for dressing up ? cant seem to find any comparison with other cruise lines on this board , can some one help please??

    thanks

  10. on vista amsterdam budapest june/ july this year, we had entertainment everynight was different but found because of layout of lounge music could be overpowering in the centre section !! this was i think because of lower ceilings and musician etc not being able to tone down there music ???? some of the entertainment didnt suit us so we just chilled out down back of the ship!!!

  11. thank you everyone for the info you have provided ?

    it answered all my questions

we did amsterdam to budapest in june and loved it so with so many glowing posts above it will be on the bucket list . .

will try and work in a ocean cruise this but the timing is not quite right so might have to say a few days like Barcelona or nice ? as we travel so far ( new zealand) 2 weeks is not worth the long flights!!

    thanks again everyone !!!

    peter

  12. Hi

we are looking at river cruise from Normandy to cote d azur next year and would like a few questions answered .

are the rivers in france affected but flow rates like other european rivers ??

What i can see there isnt the same amount of locks ????

are the towns / city within walking distance of river ??

can someone give us some first hand info on what to expect ??

    thanks in advance peter

  13. We did Avalon Paris to Normandy two years ago and have booked the twelve day Basel to Amsterdam for this October. I can't think of anything that needed to be changed or improved on the Normandy cruise. We loved the boat, the food, the staff, and the excursions. We got great prices by booking early for both trips. Fellow passengers were delightful and we dined with different people every night. Mostly British and American.

I read on a different thread that someone complained about being held in a crowd in a hallway before dinner. That was not our experience at all! Every evening before dinner we met in the lounge to get information about the next day's actitivities. Then we proceeded to the dining room. They was no feeling of a herd rushing to get a table. Good heavens, there was seating for all and the kitchen never ran out of anything. Dinners were relaxed, and wine was available. Why would anyone need to rush?

We previously sailed in Europe with Peter Diehlmann and Uniworld. They were also very nice, but we felt more at home with Avalon. We have sailed 30+ times with Princess, HAL and Celebrity, but really enjoy the itineraries and pace of river cruising.

we are thinking about Normandy to cote D azu next year . we did amsterdam to budapest in june/ july this year and really enjoyed it . expect for all the locks making less time a shore ???

My Question is: I see from what i have read there is a lot of locks and this is more of comercal waterway than the one we have just done ??? does this add to time in travel between towns ?? ( i.e less time a shore at each town /city??) thanks in advance peter

  14. So glad I just saw your post! I have several food allergies including dairy and I cannot eat gluten. We just booked a cruise on the Passion and the rep said I didn't need to request dairy-free or gluten free food but I might need to request soy milk or almond milk for my coffee. I was wondering if you can comment on this? Thanks!

hi i would tell them in advance but on all food buffet (breakfast and lunch ) they put signs on side of the dish and have a letters which tells you what it contains . best though i found was enquire from chief what you can eat, i found that after a day they would see you coming and tell you what you could have , the waiter/ess were exllent after one day they knew you and I found i got really good service and advice most meals at night they would try to adapt for your diet but a couple of times they brought a total different meal. Also i found in the menu folder that everyone got each meal the last page was on what each meal contained regarding spices ,etc hope this helps cant fault avalon for there trying to adapt a meal .we are looking for another cruise with avalon they are so good !!!
