  1. Finally, gathering the strength to re-visit this and first want to say "Thank You" to everyone for their words of comfort, support and guidance. Maybe it was just a coincidence in timing, but my sense is the Viking representative who commented above, or someone at Viking monitoring these pages figured out the situation and the people involved. Things moved quickly after this posting and before comments could be made to TellUs@VikingCruised.com Mom received a call the day following this posting with apologies and assistance from an executive that could help correct the injustice and situation. Viking in the end, after much angst, stress, and run-around did apply a credit for a future cruise, not a refund. Mom and another family member are set to go on a cruise in the near future and hopefully all will go off without any hitches, and they will be able to relax, reflect and celebrate Dad's life. Still get upset how things were handled, that Dad passed not knowing the resolution, and how worthless travel insurance can be given the premiums that are charged. Sure, the insurance companies are in the business to be profitable, but that should not be at the expense of false and miss-leading promises made to honest and innocent travelers. Thank you again to all, and appreciate your comments and guidance. Thanks also to Viking for helping close this unpleasant experience by at least crediting the original cost to a future cruise. Blessings.

  2. Have found this site to be a great resource for cruising and after a year of dealing with Viking Cruise desception it occurred to see if anyone here could help.

Brief scenario of horror story, all booked directly with Viking. Parents booked a milestone 50th anniversary cruise. Dad had a medical condition which he disclosed at the time of his booking and paid $2,000 extra for insurance which he was told would cover him if something were to prevent him from going. Cruise time arrived and he had to be on oxygen pretty much 24/7, which was new since booking. Flying at high altitudes with limited oxygen was not advised from Doctor and Viking shared that they could not provide him oxygen while on his cruise.

Needless to say they did not go and were assured insurance would cover cost of trip. [Lie] The claim was denied, [Fraud] and they have been trying to deal with Viking to honor their promise. Think they knew Dad was weak and didn't have much fight left in him, and he has since passed away.

There is so much more to the story and even more desception that would make you cry. Trying to help my widowed mother navigate this nightmare and hoping someone might be able to help or point us in the right direction. The emotional toll this is taking on her is great and sad to see and totally unnecessary. From what I have witnessed, Viking appears to have one of the worst consumer relations mentality and has played the bait and switch game all along.

At our wits end and thank you in advance for reading and providing any assistance. [They just got mom to pony up another thousand dollars, with yet again another false promise/lie. Help!]

  3. Just off the Queen Victoria and the potato chips/crisps served on board were good, and would describe them similar to kettle chips here in the United States. The french fries on the back Lido deck were so-so and the chips with the fish and chips in the pup were much better!:) Sad to be done with the cruise.

  4. Heading out on the August 15th cuise from Rome to Venice on Queen Victoria. Was hoping there would be lightly salted Walker's Crisps on the cruise. Always a treat to enjoy them and can buy them from a vendor in the United States, but have to buy a box of them which is 50 bags and they usually go stale before they are finished. Won't be tempted by the Pringles, but will be on the look out for the homemade ones in the bars!:)

  5. These are the themes for upcoming cruise. Has anyone attended these prior and did the men wear anything other than black tie? The images I have been seeing are of men in classic black ties and cumberbuns. Travel agent said to get festive tie and matching cummerbund but don't want to be crazy if more the exception than norm.:)

  6. Hi all,

My partner and I are sailing on QV next month; on embarkation day I'm popping the question and am hoping to arrange some minor "surprises" in our stateroom (and perhaps over dinner) - something more than the usual cake-flowers fare Cunard offer in their "Little Luxuries" packages.

Let me know if you learn anything regarding "surpises". We are celebrating a 40th birthday and figured I would inquire on ship. Have a great cruise, our is in August!:)

  7. Curious what other cruisers experience has been with men passengers wearing neck ties on the informal nights? Cunard literature just states a jacket must be worn and many of the promotional photos show the men in open collared shirts with a sports jacket. Wasn't planning on bringing ties, but wanted to get a reality check about the informal nights. :)

  8. We are not big fans of Cunard entertainment, and never bothered with booking a box, but isn't the plexiglass shield a major nuisance for enjoying the experience ? Judging by the peek I had from the second level of the theatre on both QV and QE, the plexiglass sort of distorts the view, it seems.

What is the shield you are referring to?

  9. I guess I should clarify. It would be a princess grill room not queen or a standard balcony. I'm concerned about the limited number of people you would interact with in a Princess Grill room. We would be on the younger side 40's and realize the clientele is more seasoned which is fine, but would appreciate meeting contemporaries too and would a grill dining room isolate you? So I've been convinced if we go I will wear a tuxedo or white dinner jacket so no worries there. Is the ballroom dancing the big event in the evenings?

  10. Hi, looking at taking a Cunard Mediterranean cruise this summer and trying to learn as much as I can. Are the grill rooms worth the extra money? Looks like you get private area of the ship for mingling and dining and better food? What about the formal nights? In the summer are men wearing the tuxedos? Hard to get motivated to pack and carry them from United States, but can be a team player. Which decks are best or specific rooms? Feel free to share any insight it all will be appreciated.:)
