And is that nice sauna on the Koningsdam located in the men’s locker room? Any other HAL ships with saunas in the men’s locker room?

No HAL ships have the saunas in the locker area - all are kinda hidden down the hall. A little odd. But there are a couple of showers in the sauna area. The locker room has two larger walk-in showers.

Noted. 😉 I haven’t sailed HAL (I go way-bc, with RCCL/Celebrity), but open to try HAL on a short cruise in/out of Seattle…especially if the sauna/steam room set-up are good and oppty to meet other cool gents from the PNW might exist.

Koningsdam has a nice free medium-sized single-sex sauna with floor-to-ceiling windows out to the sea. HAL doesn't have any free single-sex steam. Only co-ed steam in their paid spa suite area. May 1-6 in/out of Vancouver.

The men's and ladies changing room dauna and steam. The Coed spa has been redone with wheelchair access. We got the spa pas but was not worth the money and nobody was ever in there.

Looking forward to our weeks onHAL Rotterdam and it's great sauna with huge window.

Sounds like a phoney excuse for eliminating ALL single-sex saunas. So sorry to hear that! They could have just as easily rebuit the single-sex to ADA standards. Let's hope HAL never uses that excuse to do the same. Enjoy Rotterdam!

I agree with what you say about successful DJs.  At the same time, we would much prefer live music.  Perhaps DJs could augment the music at other times.  I am not in any way trying lessen the value of what DJs provide.  But, just as a "luxury" wedding would have live music, so should a "luxury" cruise line.

Sure, DJs can augment the music, but the advantage DJs have is that they have an almost infinite library from which to choose. A live band, no matter their level of talent, is restricted to the instrumentation and their arrangements in a limited music library. Our many "luxury" weddings at the Ritz Carlton and other high-end venues in Orange County confirmed our ability to combine superior musical variety, with a "luxury" guest experience. As a drummer since I was 8 years old, I also appreciate the energy a live performance can bring to a venue. Let's see what Seabourn can pull out of their hat. 🙂

...The last time we were on a cruise where they had a DJ all he did was play the tunes he liked and the fact that no one was on the dance floor at all and were asking for songs they had heard of before meant nothing to him...

So sad when a DJ plays his/her favorites and is clueless. That type of DJ wannabe does so much harm to the image of talented, professional DJs out there. The DJ should ALWAYS read the room and play the appropriate music, at the correct volume, expertly mixed. Unfortunately, what cruiselines usually do is just pick someone from the activities staff to DJ - usually with terrible results. From what I read on at least some of the comments so far, it sounds like the DJ hired by Seabourn has the talent and knowledge to make the Seabourn experience a success. Speaking from 20 years experience as a very successful full-time husband/wife DJ duo from Southern California.

I'm beginning to wonder what kind of jazz some of you have heard to dislike it so much.

I've played drums since I was 8 years old, so I appreciate all styles of music, including jazz. My wife, however, is not a musician and HATES jazz. She can't feel the beat, can't dance to it, can't recognize the melody, and god forbid, some trumpet or sax fails to hit a high note (happens alot!).

I agree about a replacement for the Tim Rice bit, but it sounds like many of the critics here haven't bothered to go to many of the current offerings by the performers on the main stage. So much more than "tired Broadway show tunes" and I really enjoy their performances.

  7. You specifically asked about forward-facing balconies on the bump. You do realize that any time the ship is motion, say at 20 knots, even if the seas and wind are calm, you will have a 20 knot wind in your face. Aft-facing bump balconies are much more protected from the elements. The additional space is wonderful.

  8. jimbob22 - I'm not aware that on non-Pinnacle ships CO people get their food any faster than the rest. They simply have an extra entree on their menu. CO guests line up on the port side entrance, everyone else lines up on the starboard side. No issues.

DCThunder - IMP CO is not worth the cost on a non-Pinnacle class unless you use the cabin upgrade option. There is a limit, at least on Pinnacle class ships, because we booked for our friends who were not in a Neptune. There were 4 spots left at the time. Sorry, don't know the exact number.
