  1. I am trying to find out if anyone has sucessfully had 4 staterooms that you were able to open the verandah dividers on the Fantasy, Deck 8. I know many have said 2 or 3 rooms without a problem, but I am hoping someone has done 4 and remembers what the room #’s were :D

  2. Hello everyone. We have our rum runners from when we cruised RCCL, but now we are going on DCL for the first time. Has anyone successfully brought rum runners on DCL? We used to pack them in our checked bags, stuffed into DH's shoes, is this still the best way?

  3. If you bring a universal remote you will be able to access the inputs. We just did it on Allure and it worked like a charm.

We didn't need to do anything but program the universal remote with a Samsung code, but if you have any problems use this link and scroll to the last post.

  4. [quote name='nenner1']And, of course, there were these.

Pineapple chair hogs. Whattya gonna do, right?

As morning turned to afternoon, we dried off and dressed, collected the kids from their clubs and headed down to Studio B for the How To Train Your Dragon ice show. Arrive extra early for this one, folks. Even though we arrived almost as early as Ice Games, the seats were quite full. There are no reservations for this show.

LOVE the pineapple chair hogs!!! No one better mess with those pineapples :D

Thanks for the heads up about the How To Train Your Dragon ice show. When I realized there were no tickets for this show I immediately started to worry if we would have a hard time seeing it. I will make sure we get there nice and early!

Thanks once again for sharing you vacation with us! It really amps up the excitement level!!!
  5. We sailed in a family oceanview on Freedom with our family of 5. I know the rooms are different than they are on Oasis/Allure, but I do remember seeing a review recently and they did seem similar. The space in those rooms is great, we had a lot of space to move around and need feel crammed in at all. The layout worked for us great, my two younger ones took the bunk area and my teenage son took the sofa bed.

Now with that being said, we did feel that 2 bathrooms, 2 tvs, 2 separate living areas would probably work better for us, so we opted for adjoining balcony rooms on Oasis. We did not have as much open floor space, but having 2 of everything made up for it. We much preferred having the adjoining rooms over the family oceanview. We were able to get ready in the mornings and evenings so much faster with two bathrooms. Even though we don't spend a ton of time in the cabin, having separate living areas was nice when the kids weren't exactly getting along

You definitely won't trip over each other in the FB, but you may be fighting over the bathroom

  6. On Oasis my hubby went there during the day and had no problems at all. I would imagine Allure is the same. By the end of the week he knew the bartenders and deck staff life stories ;) As an FYI it does tend to get very windy up there at night, but if you go around to the area over looking the pools it seems to cut down on the wind.

  7. I saw these pictures yesterday and I just can't get them out of my head! We sailed on Oasis over Thanksgiving 2010, and we didn't see ANYTHING in the way of crowding like this! I am wondering if this is common on the Oasis class ships and we just had an odd bunch with us, or if the crowds on radio's cruise was the exception?

Maybe everyone was in the pool because it was so hot, and the November temps weren't as uncomfortable? I'd love to hear Radio and other cruiser's thoughts! We're going again in early November this year (on Allure this time) and hanging out by a pool that crowded does not sound like fun!

Vanessa - we must have been at the pool at different times ;) On sea days I found it difficult to find a chair by the pool so I could watch the kids while they swam. I guess our first sea day wasn't as bad as it was still kinda cold, but as we warmed up the pools were crazy busy!

  8. Nachi Cocum! We'll be going back here on our Allure cruise too.

Lots of info on the Cozumel boards here. Not on the RCI website.

    Have a great cruise. :D

I completely forgot you went there and had reported on it, DUH :o I guess when I was reading your review I was prepping for my eastern Oasis itinerary, now that we are sailing a western itinerary I need to go back and re-read the whole thing....and drool some more :D

We recently decided to book Nachi Cocom for our November Allure cruise and are very much looking forward to it!

  10. Thank you Titissa. I never thought of it that way. You are so right! We have sailed in Royal suite, Presidential suite and Owner suite. This class of ship will be the only chance we get to sail in the Aquatheater suite. We will just keep the suite. We chose deck 9 over deck 8 thinking that being a little bit higher up will be less noisy. Am I wrong?

    Thanks again for your imput!

We have deck 8 booked for this year and deck 9 booked for next year. I think deck 8 will have a little more noise from the rock climbing and I guess a little easier for people to look up or over to. There are 5 of us (3 adults, 2 children) sailing this year so we opted for a bit more room, but then decided for next year to go up a deck to 9 since there are only 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children), we thought about deck 10 but decided against it because deck 11 is public and anyone could be looking over to our deck  LOL!

  11. This post made me look and see what Chase's reward terms were for the RCI certificate as I was planning on cashing in some if those points for an OBC. (we use Chase Ink for our business but the RCI visa for personal use :D)

Anyway here are the Chase terms which are probably similar to Citibank and US bank:

  12. This is good info! We are booked port side for our November cruise. I don't care about the Bahamas view as much (we've seen it several times) and actually prefer to look at Atlantis - but the (lack of) St. Thomas/St. Maarten view has made me consider switching. What can you actually see from the port side - is it all ocean, or something else, if you don't mind me asking?

We actually had views of both islands as we were pulling in and departing, we did not just see the ocean. Both pics below are from our port side balcony :)

Here is the view from our balcony in St. Thomas.

I was afraid I was missing something by not being on the starboard side, but we didnt miss anything!

  13. Not an expert by any means, can just offer our experience. We were on deck 10, connecting OV cabins 10150 & 10152. We were a few doors down from the forward elevators/stairs. We actually found it to be a great location for us, a quick run up a few flights for AO for the younger kids or the pool/solarium. Or a few quick flights down to Central Park to cross over the ship. We found ourselves taking the stairs a lot more than we thought from that location and we truly enjoyed it. Also, to note the port side has phenomenal views of Atlantis and the views in St. Thomas and St. Maarten were actually very pretty as well.

  14. Hey Brian - Thanks for the great review. I'll be on Oasis in November with a couple others who have been following this thread (Hi Olivia and Melissa!),

I have a question for you. Since you eat in NYC so often, any recommended restaurants? I'll be there first weekend in Oct. So far I've been thinking of Centrico and Craft. Hole in the Wall to Fancy, I'm open to anything that is good. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll be staying at the Hilton over near Radio City.

Hi Richard. Have fun in NYC! We will be eating bread and water in order to save for Oasis, but you go ahead and live it up in the Big Apple...just kidding. See you soon!

Hi Richard and Olivia! I absolutely love Brian's review and cant wait to get on Oasis for our Turkey Day cruise.

Richard I guess we are on opposite schedules....we will be doing the Disney thing the first weekend in October, then heading to NY in January. But unfortunately we wont get to partake in the fabulous dining there, going up for a quick visit to see family and our newest niece. But we are going to take the kids into the city to see at least a few of the sights (and hopefully some snow in Central Park).

  16. Part 12: Final Thoughts and Conclusions

If you are a foodie (or an aspiring foodie), I have to doubt you want to go to only one venue, but I’ll answer this question anyway. I think you have two choices. You must either go to 150 Central Park or to Chef’s Table. Which do I recommend? Chef’s Table. Chef’s Table is an experience unlike any other on the ship. It is intimate. It is personal. It is beautiful. You learn about the Chef’s thought process. The service is perfect. You are pampered from start to end. Not saying there is anything wrong with 150 Central Park, but if I have to pick one of those two, go with Chef’s Table.

Now to finish it all off with some quick hit DOs.

DO get a cupcake at the Cupcake Cupboard. Sure it’s $2.50, but you're on vacation, splurge for a snack.

DO go to the Park Café and often. The food is good and even if it’s crowded it moves quickly. Especially recommended for breakfast.

DO go to Johnny Rockets for breakfast. Hey, no extra charge and you get entertained at the same time.

DO go to the Café Promenade. We would stop here every night for a couple glasses of water and bring them back to the room. Sometimes we grabbed a cookie or two. (Shhh, don’t tell anyone!)

DO pick up a snack at the Wipe Out Café. I didn’t and I regret it. :(

DO have lunch at the Solarium Bistro. Just dry off and walk in. Just like Windjammer, except MUCH less crowded.

DO stop in at Vintages, even if it’s for a glass of wine. Although you’ll probably be tempted to order at least one dish.

And last, but certainly not least…

DO have a wonderful cruise and do what you enjoy. That’s what cruising is all about.

Brian, thank you again for your wonderful review! It was such a pleasure to read, you even had my 17 year old son salavating;)

I am happy you feel that Chef's Table was the one to pick, I have read a few reviews that have not felt that way. I was up for either or both Chef's Table and 150 Central Park, but hubby and I just are not crazy about the menu for 150, but I am hoping they change it up either before November or for Allure next year. But for now I am sure we will be thrilled with Chef's Table. Oh and thank you for posting the email address (in another thread) for requesting Chef's Table....they were extremely prompt!

I will definitely DO all your DO's!! They sound fabulous! My sailing is still over 100 days away but I am so excited and you have help to keep that excitement alive! Thank you again!!
