  1. We will be on Radiance next year and will be travelling with a 3 year old. We have booked cabin 8584 as I liked the idea of being on the hump and being able to look both directions. Our daughter doesn't have any problem sleeping with some quiet music going but I am now worried that the noise might be too loud, especially if one of us goes out later and night and needs to open the door!

I might have to rethink our cabin location :(

8584 is just far enough down the hall that it will be pretty quiet, especially with the fire door closed. I wouldn't reconsider. It's a great central location

  2. We stayed in 7594 on Serenade this past 11 days. When the fire door is open the noise is loud. It wouldn't keep me awake, but ti is like a loud TV in the hall. When the door is closed it is perceptible but not much more. When people would come through the door it was loud.

For anyone that wants to know, there is a white flip up switch to close the emergency door. Many nights I closed it early because we had early excursions.

  3. Tortola - I highly recommend a tour to the Baths. Very cool and you can snorkel too. Snorkeling not he best but exploring the rock formations and enjoying the beach are great.

St. Kitts - was a great beach stop for us. Water might have been a bit rough for snorkeling

Dominica - definitely schedule the Roseau Valley Treasures with Levi Baron @ Bumping Tours. Snorkel the Champange reef, visit the Titou Gorge and dip in the hot springs, this was the absolute highlight of our cruise!

Antigua - has great beaches, we primarily go to Hawks bill for the private secluded beach bay but every one we have been to has been awesome, people on our cruises seemed to enjoy the snorkeling there

  4. Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to put my 3 cents in about super sized ships and big Seas...

Did you know that the Queen 2 is built for Ocean Going Storms across the Atlantic?

A Huge Keel and cabins designed to take 160 mile an hour winds?

You may not know that the "New" Super Ships are not designed for such crossings,

and mostly stay away from rough weather....

    Can you guess why?

Their hulls are very shallow, to get more $$$$ for the ship, plus, many Captains are paid

Cash Bonuses to keep the stabilizers off during the cruise, to save thousands for the

    Company...

    A Question: ?

How many feet is your ship above the water line?

    15 stories?

    16 stories?

    17 stories?

    18 stories?

That's about 150 fifty to 200 Feet ABOVE the water line...

Well folks that is all great...

Does anybody know what the Keel or "draft" under your ship is?

    80 feet?

    60 feet?

    50 feet?

    24 Feet?

Well folks, as your ships keel was designed to save on fuel, and not for

stability, it is an average of 24 to 27 feet below the waterline...

So we have a huge fleet of top heavy ships sailing around just waiting

to get in a super storm and capsize, with most souls lost.

I truly think it is only a matter of time. (Poseidon Adventure Movie?)

No Ocean liner with 6,000 souls should ever attempt to circumvent a

Storm event that is of Historic Proportions.

100 to 150 MPH Winds and 30 foot seas...

I am so thankful that this ship made it, but it could have been a debacle

that makes the Titanic a footnote as the greatest disaster in History...

I hope the Mon Captain is demoted to first mate, as the weather forecasts

said this was going to happen 5 days before this cruise.

As a huge cargo ship sank last year with all souls lost in the same area,

this should be a wake up call to all ships designed for "Cruising", not sailing

in high Seas to evaluate how much their bottom line means before having one of their ships

    "On The Bottom"...

I'll get off my soapbox now.

    Stay safe,

    Safe journeys,

    and take Care.

    Tampa Bay

What's your point? Nimitz class Aircraft Carriers have about 15 stories out of the water and only draft 37 feet carrying a much heavier load in worse conditions.

Water was much calmer on Palm Beach than Eagle Beach. :)

What time of year were these pictures taken? It looks packed.

  6. If you get a hold of the guest with special needs department they will make sure an electrical cord that reached the bed and distilled, water if needed. Is available for you. On some occasions if they forget the water, your cabin attendant can make it happen.

I have contact Special Needs multiple times and have never had a cord or water. I always have to ask for it. I now pack a small(8ft) cord that fits in my bag and is large enough to reach in non suite cabins.

  7. Is this on both Oasis cabin configurations? We have a cabin with the bed close to the door, don't want to pack a cord if I don't have to.

Thanks for the great responses to this thread, very helpful.

Not, sure our cabin was a Central Park View Balcony with the bed close to the door.

  8. Thanks but I'm fully aware of the difference between an App and 4G. My point was its a new day.

Royals adaptation of technology may actually be costing them money. There are several features I would pay a small fee for. At this point there is no reason a registered app couldn't receive daily downloads of the Cruise Compass, daily Menus, ship maps (like on the smart boards) and even crowd management , like how full certain venues are. To a certain limit these are all features I would pay for on larger ships and to a lesser extent on smaller ships. But this is a whole other thread.

I do not find the new features enough to make me cruise or not cruise Quantum. If they have a reasonably priced cruise when and where I want to be, i would consider it and adapt. I do hope when you prebook they give you the chance to ask for large tables as I enjoy the chance to meet new people. I even ask for large table during sea day lunches.

  9. Not for me. I like to research the ports ahead of time in order to determine what I want to do ashore there. I would not like just dropping in on a port of call without any advance preparation. If I didn't know enough about that location, I might miss seeing a highlight I'd have been really interested in had I known about it in advance.

Many of these high end lines include port tour choices in the cruise fare. Not sure if this one does

  10. I can see some advantages to the 4 different dining rooms, although it will make it harder for groups to agree on where to eat. What I do not like is the necessity to make reservations months before the cruise, to decide 5 months ahead of time that I will eat comfort food on day 2, fusion on day 3 etc. Yes I know the official version is that you can walk up when you are ready to eat, but has anyone tried that even on the Oasis for My Time, or tried to make a reservation for My Time while on the ship?? Good luck getting a table in a reasonable time. So I would then have to go to one of the snack bars or maybe the WJ (which will also be jammed with all the others who couldn't get in to a dining room). Not a relaxing way to dine in a nice setting, going from one dining area to another until I found an open table.

Mr Goldstein and RCL made it very clear today in the Google podcast that the direction of RCL is to market to younger cruisers with smart phones they can use to make reservations. Did anyone else notice the age of the guest panelists in today's online forum??

As with other recent RCL changes, I am getting the message loud and clear that traditional cruises are going away, and that strategy may be successful for the cruise lines, all I can do is decide where to spend my travel dollars. Having a cruise experience (that I pay double for as a solo) that is just like going to Chilis or McDonalds and staying at a mid range hotel is not why I cruise. Call me a dinosaur, and I guess since I don't live on a smartphone I guess RCL would classify me as that. Fortunately there are still travel options for us dinosaurs, which is interesting that the cruise lines are choosing to drop us off their marketing plans just as the baby boomers reach retirement and start to travel. Guess they will fill all those new huge ships with folks in their 30s, didn't realize there were so many of them with lots of vacation time and lots of money to spend , or maybe their dinosaur parents are going to pay for their cruises :-).

I am currently booked on the Quantum, but in the next few months I will decide whether to cancel and take my travel dollars elsewhere. Unfortunately I have a few next cruise certificates I need to use, after that RCL cruises will be an exception, not the normal as they have been.

Quite funny considering Royal has one o f the worst Apps ever. They talk about innovation and technology on the ships but don't support any onboard apps or personal technology

  11. Personal experiences here....

I tipped .50 or a 1$ on every drink so I could keep track. Our cruise bill printed out the tips , so I knew exactly how many drinks I ordered. BTW, the package pretty much broke even.

Also at many bars I ordered multiple drinks for me and my friends and told the bar tender to charge 3 and put 1 on package, they always did a fine job of charging the most expensive on the package and occasionally rang them all up as on the package(and they got a nice tip).

  12. I love JRs but at some point we will stop going. I can walk into a 5 Guys with 6 bucks and get a excellent burger and fries, minus the Fudge sundae without paying a $1000 cruise fare.

On Oasis I enjoyed the 3.95 shrimp basket at Seafood shack, but in 7 days I was one of about 20 people in the place. I expect to see some changes in the boardwalk areas on Oasis class.
