  1. We started off very loyal to Royal, Rhapsody, Radiance, Voyager, Oasis, Harmony, Allure and Symphony. The Symphony TA was one of the best cruises we have been on, had an absolute ball of a time.

Then tried Princess with a group of friends out of Fremantle (our home port) and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We tend to lean more towards Princess now than Royal.

In my very personal opinion, I believe that Royal is attempting to go to a two class system on their ships. Yes, I understand that people pay more for their suites and should get some perks. However, they seem to get perks for everything and even venues on the ship that other people are not able to access.  Also, the emphasis on Diamond Plus and Pinnacle has really turned me off Royal as well.

Princess cruises that we have been on there is very little emphasis on their top tier guests and you don't have that feeling of segregation you can get on the larger Royal ships.

Also, big bonus in Princess's favour... they have guest laundry mats on board the ship!  It saved us a fortune in laundry when we did the Antarctic cruise on Coral and we didn't have to take so much clothing with us.  40 minutes out of our day and we had clean clothes.  Royal, can cost a small fortune and we've waited 24 hours to get our washing back....

    Cheers,
    Naomi

I could not agree more. The weather,

route, crew/staff as well as the captain regularly sharing information and insight to his decisions have been exceptional. We have been so lucky in so may ways this far. I’m keeping fingers crossed this will continue for the rest of the voyage.

The only not-so-well thing I’ll throw out is I wish people who insist on coming aboard with nasty colds (or worse) would at least quarantine themselves in their cabins or outside areas rather than walk around the ship mingling with everyone and coughing their heads off, spreading it to so many others. The evening before last I came down with the crud and have been seeing everything since from our cabin glass doors or balcony since. A quick visit to the medical facility found it’s likely just the typical respiratory illness so many suffer with with traveling in tight quarters with those who have the illness and spread it rather than being more respective of others. I was given a couple medicines to take for the next few days.

I always make a point of listening for a few minutes while waiting for shows or lectures to begin and notice how many I hear coughing around me. Without exception the number increases significantly from the first few days to later on every cruise we’ve been on.
I will never understand why people can’t show more respect for others.

Absolutely agree with you there!! Came onboard healthy and within 2 days had the bloddy cough. Lucky for me I got straight into the antibiotics and minimised contact with others. Stayed in a quiet corner of the solarium, Had room service brekky and requested table for two at dinner.

Keep up the thread and I'm happy to hear of your great experience in Antarctica. We are already thinking of going again in 2023 🐧🦙🚢😊

  3. We stayed at the Sleep Inn in November last year for 2 nights. We thought it was a great spot.

Hemmingway's Bistro will look after you well for dinner - try their French Onion Soup! Walgreens is in the car park of the hotel and Walmart supermarket across the street along with a Dollar shop.

Us two girls from West Aussie were in heaven!

  4. We were thinking of going here for our 2018 cruise. We usually go to Doc Caves, but wanted to try something different. Is it as good as everyone claims?

Fell in love with Nachi, crossing half the planet to make sure our cruise included Cozumel. Thoroughly recommend it.

  5. Mmmmm. Not much of a price difference, so this doesn't make too much sense to me. Yes, you have to book the Cabanas as soon as you board the ship. You cannot book them "on-line". Just so you know....although it says per person...it is not. Only 1 person books it. :)

Oh I only book for 1! Champagne123 I owe you a round!! That makes a big difference.

Thank you for letting me know. Greatly appreciate your help.

  6. The TA on Oasis last year was good fun even taking into consideration the weather was not the best and it created a little crowding inside.

But nothing and I mean nothing could prepare us for the "mosh pit" of an embarkation at Southampton. - what an absolute debacle that was. Then the disembarkation at Ft Lauderdale.....

  7. We travelled from Perth to Southampton in October to do the Transatlantic X on Oasis followed by the 5 day mini Caribbean cruise. We flew back by Raliegh / New York / Heathrow / Singapore...

in my opinion (and please this is my personal opinion). If you are going all that way from here why not book both cruises b2b. If you can try to get a suite above junior suite category but a balcony stateroom is fine.

We've been bitten by the Caribbean bug and really want to go back. If we go back and it's on Oasis/Allure we would try for a suite next time.

We also did a bus tour through Miami on the way to the airport, loved South Beach :-)

  8. We did this cruise last year as well. Would not worry about vaccinations, however, take a good supply of cold &flu product, panadol, soothers and cough mixture. Towards the end of the cruise it appeared a lot of people were getting colds. A good nights sleep and a dose of drugs on arrival in Singers set us straight for a week of sightseeing. Enjoy your cruise on VOS you will have a ball :):)

  9. When you see the bags being attached to the railings in the public areas you know it's about to get bad.

:):):) Those little bags always give me a giggle.

My daughter and I did a short coastal cruise from Fremantle on the Anthena the last day and half was very rough. Just about all the passengers were lying around on the decks near the pool and the Activity Staff could not get anyone to move.

Twelve months later on the Rhapsody of the Seas coming back from the Pacific Islands, the little bags made an appearance in the corridors & stair wells. Both my daughter and myself looked at each other to ask if it was rough?? To us it wasn't compared to what it was like on the Anthena :)
