I purchased full drink package for myself and "refreshment" ( no alcohol) package for DW with a phone call.
yes, that's easy enough. what doesn't work is when you have an 8 drinks a day person in the room with a 2 drinks every few days person.

I am curious. Who of the major mass market lines allow you to buy only one package in a room with a phone call to explain your situation?
will they accept...one of us drinks a lot. the other drinks A LOT.

the drink package being forced to others in the cabin. not an RCL dealbreaker, but definitely takes RCL out of the running depending who i'd be cruising with.

Same.. Is Uber an option there?
We arrive in Juneau at noon and depart at 9pm.We'd like to go to Mendenhall Glacier, check out the visitor center and do a bit of hiking for a few hours before going into town for shopping, dinner, etc.
I've been trying to research the best & most affordable way for 2 adults to do this and have been getting conflicting answers.
1. Been told to take City bus for like $2 a person.
2. Told NOT to take City bus as it's only every hour and drops you off at mile from Visitor Center.
3. Told to take shuttle bus at $45 a person (so $90 RT).
4. Told that if I'm paying $90 for a shuttle bus, i'd come out cheaper renting a car and then I can do things on my own schedule.
5. Told renting a car would be a pain in the butt just for driving to Mendenhall and that I should just take a taxi.
6. I asked about cost of taxi and was told that it was $45. Then someone else said, nope, closer to $60.
At this point I'm really wishing I could just Uber. $90 for a shuttle bus that goes 10 miles seems outrageous to me. I'd rather grab a local, give them $25 and have them drop us off.
Has anyone done this trip to Mendenhall from pier? Any tips or advice? I'll be on RCCL Explorer of the Seas next month.

thanks! that makes sense now.
No - it's only for entering the US.In Vancouver you preclear US immigration when you are boarding a cruise ship or airplane or train that is heading to the US. If it's an RT cruise or you are coming from Whittier/Seward to Vancouver it's useless when arriving in Vancouver as that's all Canadian-controlled - but when you fly home again it's valid for both Security and Immigration again as you are 'entering' the US even though you're physically still in Canada.

So Global Entry can be used when exiting the US/entering Canada? I was under the impression that it was only for entry back into the US.
Just a small update for anyone researching Global Entry at Canada Place. Not sure if I've mentioned it anywhere on my previous postings, but there are a couple of small short cuts for GE holders during embarkation. During the actual check-in process there is no difference for GE or non GE holders, but once you have your set sail pass (or "keys") and head downstairs to security and customs/immigration/border control there sometimes is. For the security checkpoint look to see if there is a Global Entry/Nexus sign for the door to the left of the main entry point (usually marked as for "Crew"), if there is one there you can use that entrance and avoid the main line. Once through the scanners and entering the immigration area check for Global Entry/Nexus signage (also ask any of the staff) as there may be a separate line and officer doing the GE passengers.Last year a friend and I did one of the end of season repositioning cruises from Canada Place - she was GE and I was not - she did manage to get through the process just a little quicker than me, not by much, but a little quicker. The non-GE holders get directed to use the machines for their customs/immigration declarations before going to an officer and the GE holders get directed straight to the officers.
Mind you I will add the caveat that this was last season, no indication as to what will happen this year as the season doesn't get started for a few months!
Hope that helps!

I tried this a couple of weeks ago. They called me back immediately, then put me on hold for 45 min before I gave up.:)
I Am sure many people do not realize, yet there is a "Call Me" function at the website, so you do not have to hold for them.Good luck and bon voyage

That's a lot of red flags. The obvious choice would be to find a TA who, at a minimum, follows up.

Just a suggestion.. Return the car the night before.

RCCL has depending on ship, over 30 different types of beer, with all the special beers served in the pub. The only beer not included is Chimay 750ml bottle, which is 19.95 a bottle I believe.
As far as the other drinks, you can basically drink anything they have. I did not encounter any restrictions. For wine, you pay the price difference after $14.00 I believe. (not a wine drinker).
I'm a huge fan of chimay.. Is that included in the ultimate package?

were new to cruising and were nervous about our 1120 flight from MCO do you think we would have enough time to leave the ship return our rental and catch our flight or will it be a long shot? thank you in advance!! :)
we were in line to get off the ship at about 8:45 am and i was home in bed by noon...in Tampa. so you will have plenty of time to catch that flight. of course assuming nothing goes wrong, missing luggage, etc.
-
thanks for the info. sounds like airplane mode and using ship's wifi when needed is the best option.
being 'connected' isn't a negative thing...it's 2013 after all. we're not talking about having a conversation in a movie theater :/

wscott52, i have the same phone, with T-Mobile. and would be using it for data only, no phone calls.
clarea, just data. i will be on Freedom and Tmobile's website shows a rate of $5.99 per minute for int'l roaming AND $15 per MB...the give rates specifically for indiv cruise ships. i'm thinking this is not using the ships wifi at all, and just their int'l internet service.
well now i'm more confused.
-
ah ok...i think i understand. now to figure out which will be cheaper.
-
i'm a bit confused....but this is a basic question. Do you have to pay the roaming fees through your carrier AND the ship's fees? or is it one or the other?
