  1. My wife and I walked into town a couple of years ago. Once you get by the exit where everyone is trying to sell you something, you will be fine. Some of the outside sales vendors are quite forceful and some will follow you a block or 2. No THANK YOU and keep walking. We walked across the bridge into town, it was interesting to see how the Folks lived and shopped. On our way back we bartered with a horse and carriage owner for $25 ( about 1 hour). Took us around by government buildings, Casino and residential areas. You should be fine, Stay Together!

  2. We have been to Roatan 4 times. The West side is very laid back with small shopping area that has dining and drinks, especially at Half Moon Bay . I did not feel Isla on Roatan. Some of the best snorkeling and coral I have ever experienced was in Roatan. Isla is about 6 miles long and 3/4 mile wide at widest point. Has beautiful beaches, small quaint Village, hotels and wonderful restaurants. Loved the food and view from Jaxs. We took ferry from cancun then rented a golf cart for day($40). Wonderful day.

  3. We spent the day on Isla Mujeres several years ago. Rented a golf cart and had a blast. This will be our 4th trip to Belize. First time we walked into town, then did horse and carriage around town. Last 2 times stayed in port. Like to try Caye Caulker if it is like Isla. Concern is there and back on time.

  4. Most of Herberts' snorkel tours start right in front of his house. He lives with his Father . Herberts' Uncle Joe lives next door. He owns a older shrimp boat that is docked out front at their dock. If his Uncle is not Shrimping and the boat is docked. You might ask Herbert to take you over to get some pictures. Him and I boarded the boat and took pictures. I could look out to the ocean and visualize I was on the Deadliest Catch. They all make you feel like you are an old friend visiting. Have FUN!!

  5. Check out Roatan Ocean Adventure Tripadvisor reviews. 212 Excellent, 8 Very Good. Herbert Woods is a wonderful young man. His company will do whatever you want. We have used him 3 times. Tell him Joe and Vicki from Illinois said Hi. You can't go wrong!

  6. I have been busy and not been on CC. I'm sure glad you booked Herbert. We met him over 5 years ago. He was working for another company. We encouraged him to go on his own . Next time we booked him while he was trying to start his company( phoned him) . Next time he had ROA up and running. He is a wonderful young Man. I think his next Challenge is Local Politics. He really cares about his Island. In the mean time, tell your friends about Roatan Ocean Adventure, our Highlight in the Western Caribbean.

  8. We just booked Celebrity Summit reposition to San Juan on Oct 19.. We fly in from STL on 17th. Staying at Country Inn and Suites in Elizabeth NJ. My only desires (Bucket List) is to visit Statue of Liberty while there. We have all day Saturday the Oct. 18. Can someone recommend a Tour that would pick us up from the hotel area and the price. Would it be cheaper to Taxi to SOL and then buy tour package? Any help appreciated.:)

  9. Reservation at La Quinta Inn Hobby Airport, King $79 plus tax. We flew into Hobby last Friday(April 4th) , called Hotel for Airport shuttle. Arrived in 10 minutes. Hotel is close to Hobby, about 5 minute ride. Checked in, took 5 minutes. Went to room , unpacked . Went back down and asked for shuttle service to Shell station for beer and soda, returned in 15 minutes. Dominios for supper. After supper went to front desk , talked to Marshawn about shuttle service to Bayport. She said they have a package that includes room and shuttle for about $200 plus tax. I asked if there was just a shuttle because I didn't buy package. She called Shuttle service and talked to Mateen (part owner) 1-837-389-0568 about picking us up. He agreed to pick us up for $100 ($50 at Bayport and $50 at Airport)for 2 both ways ( he agreed to stop at Walmart for water and soda at no extra charge). We agreed, pick up at 10AM. I was able to get 2 other couples to go for same price. Left at 10, stopped at Walmart, dropped off Bayport by 11AM.

Return, picked us up at 9AM. Mateen took 2 couples to airport and returned us to Hotel. We had a 4PM flight, killed 4 hours at hotel( used internet to print tickets, read E mails, then set by pool till time to go to Hobby. Hotel shuttle took us to Airport. Everything was like Clock work.

The Hotel was nice, clean , nice pool area, and breakfast OK.

Negative limited eating places in area, closes Jack in Box and restaurant in Holiday Inn. I would do this again if we ever return to Houston. In 9 cruises , this was probably the easiest coming and going . Rating 8 :)

  10. We got off the Caribbean Princess last Saturday at 8 AM. Our shuttle was to arrive at 9AM and did. Our driver got the first couple to Hobby by 9:45, then took us to La Quinta Hobby ( we stayed 1 night pre cruise for $79) to kill 5 hours before our flight. Our shuttle works with La Quinta and Best Western Hobby Airport. I can't remember the name of company but the driver, part owners name is Mateen. He just bought a new shuttle that holds about 12-15. He took 6 of us to and from Bayport at arranged time. I asked him to stop at Walmart and he did at no extra cost. He dropped us off at 11AM and picked us up at (9 AM the following week. If you book the Cruise and Shuttle at La Quinta Suites, the cost is $199 plus tax. I called Mateen direct, we paid $100 roundtrip for 2 ($50 at drop off and $50 at return drop off). Mateen's Direct # 837-389-0568. Our cruise was flawless, from Hobby back to Hobby. Good luck.:)

  11. My wife and I were there last Tuesday on the Caribbean Princess. We had a Private Tour Operator (Roatan Ocean Adventure) pick us up at the hill by Mahognay Bay. We proceeded to our snorkel excursion in French Key area. Beautiful coral and tons of Lobster. We brought the letter that Princess issued to warn everyone about security problems to our tour operator. Herbert then told us about the Murder of the NCL employee. Herbert drove us to Coxen Hole and showed us the spot the man was shot. There was a lot of extra security around Coxen Hole. Herbert and his relatives told us that they could see something like this happening because the warning signs were there. Petty thefts around the island leads to more problems. The government needed to step up security but didn't. They are now! Canceling 2 ships cost the Island about $500,000 .

Where we snorkeled there was beautiful coral everywhere. Elk horn coral 4-5 feet long. I saw a large Elk horn broken and laying in the sand. I pointed it out to Herbert. He said the big snorkel boats from the other side of the island come here and drop there anchors anywhere. Result broken coral. The same problem as the violence. If this is not protected , there will be no Coral in the future. Herberts family is trying to get this area protected like a park.

I hope the government steps up to the plate on both issues. Roatan is a beautiful Island. We would not sail the western Caribbean if Roatan wasn't a stop.

Couple years ago there was the shooting of a young tourist on St Thomas. I think it was near Coki beach. The cruise ship companies told the Government to step up security or else. They did and it helped curb the violence.

I live in a town of 7500. When I was a kid we had 4 Policeman and you didn't lock your doors. Today we have about 18 Policeman and you BETTER LOCK YOUR DOORS. What a SHAME!!

  12. We are getting ready to book NCL on March2. We are going to stay in Covington , then driving to Fulton Garage to park. We sailed in early Oct. 2014. Stayed in Covington then drove to Fulton garage. The traffic was a NIGHTMARE, it took over 1 hour to get off Interstate to Garage. There was some type of Medical convention going on. If it was that busy for a convention, what will it be like on final week of Mardi Gras? If we had been stuck in a cab it would have cost as much as the Garage. Any body have a comment.

  13. :)There's a new cam on top of Sunset Bar and Grill. It has 3-4 second lapse, but you can still see the people and the planes coming and going. I found it by google search of Larry's Vacation Webcams. Click New Cams: Sunset Beach Bar - Beach View. Then , you can google search: Sint Maarten Airport Flights, Departures and Arrivals. It has a daily schedule of when planes come and go. I watched it almost all day yesterday till dark. I just wish it did not have the lapse.:( One of the neatest things I have ever done was standing by the road and watching Jet Blue take off. When it was over, my forehead was bleeding and I picked sand out of my scalp for 3 days. I can't even imagine the force of the Jumbo Jets, next time!:p

  14. Very good review with great pics.. We did this cruise one year ago today on the Victory. While you were at the Shipwreck on St Kitt, did you get any pics of the Mongoose and the Monkeys. We were there about 11:30 when they fed them? WE have to do this trip again in the future. Hurricane Sandy had the water so churned up the snorkeling was not good at all. The only place it was half way decent was at the Shipwreck. We are leaving out of New Orleans Saturday. Taking my new Nikon Coolpix 520, hoping for some quality pics. Practicing with it for our lead up to Alaska next June for our 45th Anniversary.

    Thanks again:)
