We are waiting for the March 29th on the Rotterdam too. We decided to try standby because they said we would find out at least 2 days before. I'm getting a little nervous after reading that some were still waiting to find out under the 48 hour mark. We have a long drive to port and would need to book a hotel the night before so hopefully we will have our notification(either going or not) by 3pm today.
When did u book?

We paid Dec 11..our bargain is up to $2600. With HAL package and gratuities.. hopefully I won’t be writing from prison after being in such close quarters with no windows🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I did the Queen Mary 2 twice inside. I slept like a baby. But as we always say, "How much time do you spend in your cabin?"
PS....One of my clients paid about a month ago, the other about 10 days ago. I wonder how long the standby list is!!??

We found out today we made the March 29 cruise. I’m a little apprehensive. We paid more for the Hal package than the interior room. By the time you add taxes, fees and gratuities it’s not much of a bargain anymore🤦♀️ the room seems claustrophobic… I know it’s an interior but except for the bed you have no where to go..this might be a long 9 days.
PS.. congrats on getting onboard!!!
9 nights at $49pp is a bargain anyway you slice it!!

When did you pay for the cruise?
I have 2 clients waiting for them to clear.
I check many times a day, but still no luck.

Sending positive thoughts your way... 🤞
When did you make the reservation?
I'm a TA and am in that sailing with 10 others, but I booked 4 people in standby, 2 a month ago and 2 Kat week. No one cleared yet. My fingers are crossed for them (and you) also!!

Hi,
A few ago days I called HAL to make a Standby Program reservation. As others have noted, the HAL representative didn’t seem to know what I wanted. I was put on hold several times, but at the end I thought we had worked things out. I was charged the full amount as per the standby program rules. My concern is that all references to the reservation online and by email (see below) refer to a “waitlist” reservation, not a “standby” reservation. Perhaps HAL codes it in their system as a kind of waitlist reservation, but I’d feel better if the word “standby” were used. I called back today and the HAL representative (who also didn’t seem to be familiar with the program) insisted all was ok.For those of you who have made standby reservation, have you seen “standby” in your confirmation, or are you seeing “waitlist” as described below?
Thanks for any comments!
_______________The subject heading in the email booking confirmation reads, “Attn: ….. Waitlist Request”
In the attached PDF booking confirmation, the top right says “Waitlist Request” and below the Guest Information section, it says, “You are currently waitlisted for the following categories”. (However, page 2 of the PDF is in fact a summary of the rules of the stand by program).Looking at my account online, under bookings, when I click on “Manage My Cruise”, I get the warning:
“This booking is currently in 'Waitlist' status
We are unable to offer online purchases at this time.”And similarly, clicking on “manage payments” near the bottom I see:
“Inside Inside TO BE ASSIGNED TO BE ASSIGNED WAITL”It will say "wait list ". I'm a TA and have done several for an upcoming cruise.

Just notified via email that we are cleared for 23 March sailing but have not yet received a room. Much earlier than our <2 day notice on the last standby but that notice came with a room number…Will share how this turns out!
That's great news!

I called HAL today and they told me it's a minimum of 48 hours, not 90 minutes. The res agent laughed when I said I heard 90 minutes. She said she's seen one case where the passenger was told only 24 hours in advance and it was due to a special circumstance.

Just wanted to give an update for those who worry about their first trip. I started the trip with ginger capsule and seabands. I didnt believe at all in seabands but figured it couldnt hurt. ginger def seems to help (caps and lozenges). the sea has been VERY calm and the seaband are quite tight so i took them off one full morning. that afternoon I started feeling exhausted/ lightly nauseous. i put the bands back on, took a capsule, had a quick nap and started feeling better. Clearly the bands do something, whenever i remove them i feel slightly worse. Overall, so far, this very much feels like altitude sickness where your body is tired from adapting to a different setting. (something i also cant take meds for)
Thx

Has anyone had experiences or been warned about urinary retention after taking seasickness meds?
I've had retention 2x, once on a ship...not pretty, and am doing the Drake's Passage (Antarctica) in January. Maybe I should just not take anything

Does anyone have recommendations for a transfer from the port to the airport that includes tours of Valparaiso and Santiago? I have tried Chile Dream Tours, but they are sold out the day I need them (Jan. 20, 2024).

How do I set up my forum, so the most current shows first? Thanks.

I really appreciate your detailed "free" snorkeling info. Unfortunately, I don't dive. I just want to make sure I don't wind up in a place with dead coral.

just saw your posting here. :) Happy July 4.
Have you ever looked at meet me on board dot com (one word) ---can't write it here.
Any one here doing the crossing from Sou to NYC?BRYAN

Now you see, that's something I don't understand...passengers go to the gym, work out (which is admirable) but afterwards, being all sweaty, which is inherent in a good workout - use the elevator rather than using the stairs? Why is that? Seems to me that using the stairs which could be incorporated into an exercise routine as a 'cool down'? -S
Oh, I usually use the stairs anyway, but there are ships I've been on where the gym was a good 8 flights above my cabin!
-
No worries!
Just make sure your black gym shorts have the de rigueur stripe on the side!!
And these of course;
Where'd you get the pix of my formal night clothing?? LOL

And if the Decks are closed due to weather !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really this is a problem that does not exist,
If you do not wish to walk through public areas, then just walk down the stairs from Deck 13 to Deck 12 etc and walk along the stateroom corridors.
The Fashion Police would be showing their intolerance if they rebut a fellow passenger in gym kit.
Funny how once on board and away from the keyboard and face to face the majority of all passengers are all smiles..:D
Personally, I'll take the elevator if I'm tired....I'm on Deck 5.
-
I agree. Lots of passengers, including us, book second seating so we can watch sail always and not have to be dressed for dinner until around 8.
not too many sail-aways on a TA :)
-
Smile and say good evening to any passengers you pass on the way to and from the gym :)
LOL......and wait to see if they smile back!
-
You shouldn't need to go through public areas (bars, restaurants, theater, casino, etc) to get to the gym so no problem.
I wouldn't do that anyway! I need to cause attention to myself.
One of the unusual things you see on any cruise is people dressed informally in the elevators at the same time others are dressed for dinner. Especially if they dress for dinner at 5pm LOL
-
I'm sailing the QM2 in a few weeks and hope the sailing is a lot better than many of the reviews here on CC.
As for the 'dress code after 6', can anyone explain how this works in practice? I've done many cruises and usually work out twice a day, once before breakfast and once before dinner (late seating) How does one get to and from the gym or jog after 6 in gym clothes? Am I supposed to wear my tux while jogging :) or when lifting weights at 7pm????
Because I wouldn't be showering and dressing for dinner until after 730, what do late seating pax do?
Ideas?
