  1. I called Celebrity today since I'm in a Sky Suite in October.  I explained that we'd booked specifically due to the redesigned suites and public spaces and are considering cancelling.  I was told they haven't yet approved any onboard credits or discounts as a result of the scaled back Revolution plans.  I am going to wait until a bit closer to July and then decide if I'll cancel.

Side note:  The agent also told me that The Retreat will still be created but it won't have a bar.  What???

Does this mean no access to any outer decks forward for all non-Suite guests? No outside view anymore if you e.g. travel into a Fjord in Norway or approach a nice port?

Wouldnt the deck area in front of the fitness center still be a spot for that purpose? It’s not a huge area but still could address the need.

I don't think it's possible to add a pool because it changes the weight ratio on the ship, due to water weight.

Makes sense.  I think a pool is doubtful.  Some sort of water feature would be fantastic, though.  Just looking at water is part of the reason I love the Solarium, though I guess if I turn my chair I can easily see the ocean which should be more than enough water to look out upon.

Here's a tiny of bit of new-ish info. Summit and Millenium specifically say "all brand new staterooms" where Equinox says "staterooms refreshed", so aside from the bathrooms being updated and a cabin re-fresh, I don't imagine major changes to the cabins for S class ships. Craft Social appears to be the exact same thing as Gastrobar, just with a new name. Quasar replaced by the relocated conference center. Adding a screen and alcoves to the lawn.

Just got off Equinox today. From what I heard, Michael’s Club will be changed but will still be a space for suite class in addition to the new main Retreat Lounge space on Deck 14. However, the feel of Michael’s Club will be much different with a minimalist modern bright design.

The outdoor Retreat area will have at least one hot tub, but folks hadn’t heard anything about an additional pool.

Luminae is staying in its current location but getting a facelift as well.

  5. On my flight home today, I made some updates to two trip report posts. The stateroom tour post now includes information about the noise at the cabin location and the cabin number. The post about onboard perks for Captain's Club now includes a look at the latest welcome letter/ benefits.

  6. New update is posted. Rocky day at sea today. Several folks getting motion sick, but plenty more rolling with it and having fun. The Solarium pool is now officially closed after the wave action got just bit too dangerous... but not after some kids at heart got to enjoy the impromptu wave action. I posted a video on the blog...

    Take care!

  7. Rcoasterz looking forward to your blog, I am also following on Twitter. I am boarding Celebrity on 30th July for the Baltic Cruise. I am particularly interested in the speciality restaurants, once you pay the supplement is that it or is certain steaks extra again? I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Hi there. All the main speciality restaurants are $45, except Murano is $50. The Porch, which is more limited, is $30 I believe. Sushi on Five is a la carte pricing. For the main specialty restaurants, they offer a selection of meats/ cuts, but do also have a more premium/ bigger cut that carries an additional charge. For examples, at Tuscan you can pay $15 for a Bone In Strip Loin Prime or a Porterhouse. However, they offer a filet mignon, ribeye, or skirt steak as part of the standard cover charge. Below is a link to the entrees page of the Tuscan menu. I'll post the others as I dine at them. Unfortunately, I'm not able to upload photos to the blog right now. Thanks for following!

  8. In January, it will be first time with Celebrity on the Silhouette.

On other cruise lines, on embarkment day before muster drill, they have a ship tour with one of the staff showing passengers the different areas of the ship.

Is there a tour of the ship on embarkment day?

I didn't see this offered. If it was, it wasn'the listen in the schedule of events.

At check in, do they give out small wallet size ship map?

Yes. It is included in the key holder along with your wifi code if you have an Internet plan included.

For muster drill, do you need to bring your life jacket?

No. You proceed to the assigned muster station and watch a video. They are all indoors.

Are there pool towels in the cabin or just at the pool?

Just at the pool (you don't have to sign them out). But on past sailings they've provided beach towels in the room the night before ports.

See responses above. Enjoy your cruise. You can get a comprehensive report at travstrat.blogspot.com

  9. Day 1 Summary - Celebrity Silhouette Embarkation & Evening at Sea:

We arrived at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale via Uber at 11:20am and waited about 5-7 minutes to get through security. The wait for check in was 2-3 minutes. In both cases we used the Elite line, but wait time seemed comparable in the standard line.

Once aboard, reserved our dinner times for our 7 dinner specialty restaurant package that we'd purchased online. Unfortunately, when booking a package online, you're unable to reserve the dinner times. We took care of it on deck 5 at the gelato shop where the restaurant team was temporarily setup. We had no problem getting times around 6-630pm every night for each restaurant. We also enjoyed a latte with our premium drink package (as part of the Go Best package).

To avoid the often crowded lunch buffet lines on embarkation day, we headed to Aqua Spa Cafe in the Solarium on Deck 12 for salad, chicken salad, and smoothies (free with premium drink package).

Staterooms were ready at 1pm. We unpacked (we carried our bags onboard). We met our stateroom attendant, who went through the normal notes. I do find it funny that you get the same drill even when you're Captain's Club Elite. :-) That said, he's friendly and has taken care of us.

I worked out at the gym and tried my luck at the spa raffle, but turns out I won't be getting a treatment this time. :-)

We had dinner at Tuscan. The menu is updated from what I remember from our last cruise in 2016. I had the meatball, crab cake, goat cheese salad, branzino (italian sea bass) and side of eggplant parm. I enjoyed it all.

At the 9pm show tonight (comedian Jim Colliton - worth the time), our Cruise Director, Sara from Spain, promised to keep her post show remarks to 1-2 minutes to be respectful of our time onboard. No complaints!

We called it a night after that.

We have a forward oceanview stateroom for this first time. We usually book balconies or suites, but the pricing made sense for us to scale back on this one. It's quite spacious due to a slanted window which extends the length of the stateroom. The only issue was that we were awoken by noises last night that sounds like meta; scraping against metal. It occurred 3 times for a just 1-2 seconds each time, but was enough to wake me up. It just happened again while writing this! Hope to solve the mystery source of the noise by the end.

I'll share some photos on Twitter (follow me: @travstrat). I'm having issues with the file uploader on this board. I'll also be posting some tips and other content on my blog: travstrat.blogspot.com

  10. Cheers everyone! I took a cabin video but internet is running slow now. I'll try to upload to YouTube later.

We had Romecabs pick us up at 10am at our hotel. We were at the ship just after 11. I think I had a drink in my hand by 11:35? No problems getting on board. Smooth experience.

We started with two screwdrivers at the pool bar and already met several people from Cruise Critic, a couple from Canada and a couple we sailed with in April.

We had lunch in Luminae. I had the burger and Edward had the chicken and waffles. Both were good. I feel my burger was better last time. We will see if it changes.

We already saw our favorite bartender Chairul and the very wonderful bartender Iva.

It is 5pm and we're currently getting ready for the night. I'll post some photos of the night and will again take some videos. Fingers crossed the internet cooperates.

FYI - we seem to have unlimited internet linked to our account? We didn't buy it but we were going to. We will see how long this lasts.

Also our butler is Hilario. He met us at 1:30 at the room with our luggage! I'm think we will like him.

Thanks for your posts, Paul. My husband and I are on the Nov 5 sailing from Miami in a aft Sky Suite. The reason we went with it was due to the experiences we had in Luminae on our last cruise in May. I hope it's still worthwhile, both food and service.

If you have a chance to continue to share, any feedback on the Sky Suite experience (perks, Luminae, general service, etc) would be great. I'll follow along on Instagram as well.

    Have a great cruise.

  11. Hi all. Has anyone sailed on Anthem recently and noticed whether they're offering the "Ultimate" Specialty Dining Package? On some RCL & Celebrity ships I've seen them offer it. You pay a daily fee per person (which is less than the normal cover charge) for the duration of the sailing and you can eat in any of the specialty restaurants each night. I know they offer 3 and 4-night packages, but the "Ultimate" package is for all nights and generally allowed lunches and breakfasts in a specialty restaurant, too.

Has anyone seen the "Ultimate" Specialty Dining package on a recent sailing? If so, any insights on how much it costs and what it includes? Thank you!

  12. Celebrity is not reputed to be a party ship ...quite the contrary .i think its hard to attract a younger crowd as Celebrity cruise are not considered cheap and with Specialty restaurants costing between 49-50$. I cannot see too many young people affording that .

I have been on 3 Celebrity ships so far ....by 10 pm the places are empty ...everywhere

I was asked to leave the casino at 11.30 because i was the only one there ......so not much of a party ship

People on Celebrity in my eperience are older ,want peace and quiet at night ...our neighbours went to bed when we went to late dinner ....but did get up at 6 am

I cannot see how loud music will please older crowds

As much as I'd love to spend a night sleeping in the Solarium because I love it there, I didn't mind the venue being taken over one night of the cruise with the Liquid party. I don't expect it will last beyond this year, though, because I don't think the drinks sales are fantastic relative to the effort they have to put into transforming the venue.

We're in our early 30s and appreciate that there is an option like this onboard, though clubs and loud music aren't generally our thing either. I do love that Celebrity has a mixed crowd. We enjoy having conversations with people of all ages, whether over live music in the Ensemble Lounge or in the Captain's Club Elite nightly event.

  13. So, how long was the actual performance? Anyone?

We didn't stay for the whole thing but I would guess there is performance activity for a solid hour between the acrobatics and the 10 min or so mermaid appearance. I'd expect that the DJ and light continue for a while as long as people are there and buying drinks. I got a hoot out of the fact that they were offering "bottle service" packages.
