  1. This link might be helpful

It was more of a glass store but they did do a demonstration and let everyone in our group with Benjy blow into the tube to expand the glass... It was most likely the one they talk about in the link owned by Isreal....

The whole time at the glass place from start to finish was probably 45 minutes. We bought a dish to bring home and it made it home in one piece.

  2. Contact Benjy

We went with another family. He took us on a city tour per our request to the glass factory. He arranged parasailing for us and set us up on Chileno beach. He took us to his favorite restaurant. He will do what ever you specify and offer suggestions too.

Do you have more information on "the glass factory"

  3. Alternatively, you can do what I do and make your own vanilla. I buy vanilla beans online, and then place them into a bottle of alcohol (my choice is vodka but rum works too). Shake well, and in approximately 6 months you have beautiful delicious vanilla that you made yourself for a fraction of the price. :) Strain it into a smaller container (using a coffee filter and wire sieve) and use in your recipes. The bigger bottle continues to "steep" and gets even better.

    Thanks How many beans???

  4. Please, if you are going to quote a post with pictures in it be kind enough to remove the pictures. They take up a lot of space for such little commenting. Common courtesy, please.

Thanks for reposting pics. I enjoy seeing them again. I also don't have to find pics for reference. I missed some fun suitcase items the first time. Not evevyone uses cell phone to enjoy the posts.

  5. I totally agree with coming later rather than earlier, what a mess Los Angeles terminal is at 11:00 am, when they make the announcement for preferred passengers to start check-in everyone and their brother rushes to line up. Last time it happened to us we were all Elite and about 75th in line, the woman at the head of the line was denying entrance to most of the people as they were not preferred we ended up being the 4th in line at the desks.

The biggest complaint I have is when an elite couple want to take 8 or so family members on the ship when the elites are called, and then argue with the boarding personnel.

And then on the Ship they morph into "Chair Hogs"

  6. Without a doubt. Fisherman's Wharf is excellent for taking photos -but, there is nothing you want to eat here. Much better offerings elsewhere where the quality and price will be MUCH better.

Slanted Door is one of my favorites - what most folks don't know, you can sit at the bar and order from the menu. OR, go to their "take out" shop called "Out The Door" - same food and get a bench on the waterfront.

I love the Wine shop in Ferry Building if vino is on your list.

Cowgirl creamery is amazing too. I could go on ...

    I love the Ferry Building.

  7. Thanks so much for the advice re: renting a car for the embarkation day.

Huge congrats to the happy couple for the upgrade!

We have taken all of your comments into consideration and will just get the rental car and head to Long Beach. Just to clarify, we actually fly in at 9am and figured we would have the car around 10 and can return it to San Pedro so we don't have to head back to LAX. While we love all things "House of Mouse", it does seem like a hassle for just a few hours. And lugging around our luggage for a few hours to ports of call seems a bit daunting....although the cocktail sounds like a great idea!!:D

What is the one way drop off fee in San Pedro? Uber?? How will you get to the ship/port/pier from the rental drop off???

  8. This shows the trolley's 2015 schedule & only on the weekend but didn't see a 2016 schedule.

I searched & found a couple of websites saying operations for the red rail line were suspended in September 2015 for a construction project including this one from the Port of LA.

Well shoot!!! Good to know. But you can walk to several places on 6th and 7th Sts or all the way to Ports-O-Call...not too far if you enjoy a nice walk...otherwise a cab can get you there....or drive if you have a car.

    Thanks. :cool::cool:

  9. The "private" food tour is fun, and we have done it. However, it is with a group, and we were hustled from place to place, and like every "tour" we've ever been on, we stopped at "select" locations with the expectations that we would buy stuff.

I would suggest just grabbing a cab at the cruise docks and have them deliver you to the new dock in old town ($12US for up to four passengers, just a bit more for a van that holds 10.) From there, wander up the Malecon towards the cruise docks. You will find a lot of great restaurants and Cantinas to stop at, and a bunch of places to shop, all right along the beach, and at your leisure, with no rush. If you grow tired on the return, or are running late, just grab a cab back to your ship.

If you walk out to the highway at the cruise docks, you can save (maybe) $2.00US on the cab, but we just grab a cab at the docks.

    Yelapa ???????
