We were sitting outside the airport ordering an uber last month when a taxi driver asked if we wanted a ride...Hubby asked how much to Holiday Inn POM...the driver said $60....we said no thanks...My friend who lives in Miami said that taxi drivers like to screw tourists...I had never used an uber before that trip coming from a small town...but we had a great experience with them...

30 plus years cruising from Miami, I have never paid a fare to the port. Where we live 4hrs away, we go down the day before. Always stay at the La Quinta on LeJeune. Flying in, they will pick you up at the airport. Cruise day, they take you to the port. Once at the hotel, they have a company that picks you up at the port and takes you to the airport or back to the hotel. Where we drive in, we park our car for free. The fee back is like $20.

  2. Hi all!

We are looking at the following cruises. It might be my husband and I, if we can get family to watch our son. If family won't watch him, then we'll have our son with us (22 months old). All of these are in January.

Carnival Glory (7 days)- Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, San Juan, and Saint Thomas.

Carnival Breeze (8 days)- St Thomas, San Juan, Nassau, and Antigua.

Carnival Splendor (7days)- St Maarten, San Juan, and Grand Turk.

Here's the thing. We've been on the Breeze and Glory, we enjoyed both trips. I loved the Category 6M stateroom on Breeze due to the bathtub!! Actually I LOVED the Breeze as a ship :)

We've never been on Splendor. Itinerary is more important to us if it's just the two of us. If my son comes along then ship has a little more sway in our opinion. We've never been to the following- Antigua, Half Moon Cay, or Grand Turk. Since those are new places for us, what do you all think of those ports? If we go as a couple whats our best bet? If we go as a family what's our best bet??

I'm having a hard time with this decision right now and a little input from others is greatly appreciated!

Like with us, somewhat like your thinking, my wife has only been cruising since 2003. All the posts she has been to, so now is basically the ships. In this case, my thoughts would be the Glory. Why?? HMC, GT are 2 of my wifes favorite ports. We are doing this same cruise on the Glory 9/19/15 as a Breeze group reunion cruise. She has been on almost all the carnival ships up to now. Next cruise for her, back on the Fascination, we just came back from the STYX 9/27 Fascination and recouperation cruise 2/5/15 with the same crew members. That 2 is also favorites with us. The main thing, is you have fun and enjoy.

  3. I told them how much fun our first cruise was...they heard the stories of what it was like and just weren't impressed compared with past vacations that were non-cruising.

I would automatically not believe it either...but I did experience it this cruise! The photo staff (the ones who sold the pics) were really bad. Went to pay for my pics and he rang me up and just handed me the pics back, I asked if he could put them in the cardboard envelope so that they wouldn't bend and sighed loudly and did put them in an envelope. When I was turning to walk away, I realized he hadn't given me the "free" gifts you get when you buy pics, I turned to ask them about them and he leaned behind the podium and grabbed some of the stuff and threw it on the podium and walked away.......I didn't even inquire about the coffee mug...just decided to chalk it up and forget it.

The staff in the buffet area.....only ONE was friendly and actually smiled and talked. The rest looked pissed off a lot of the time and never once smiled.

The only staff that was friendly were the ones working directly for tips....and even then, I was 2 for 4 in the MDR that was friendly/good at their job.

Like I said....not typical at all for Carnival. Don't know what was going on because I had read a lot of positive about Fascination and I heard several times a day, every single day, other cruisers making remarks about it being the worst cruise that they have taken. So something was definitely different.

I have to agree with you on some parts. We were on there for the STYX 9/27-10/2 cruise and encountered some of the same.We had an outstanding group of 10 people as well as dining crew. Not to mention, we also knew the Maitre`d. As far as the photo dept staff, I mentioned at some point, you all should be fired. They were the worst I have ever seen. Needless to say, I told them where to put the pictures. I know, don`t say it.. Several of the crew in the lido resturant, also most of the bar servers on the lido, got a few words of wisdom from me. I have seen better on a training ship from new crew members. We all had fun just the same. Going back in Feb. "15."

  4. We just got off of the Fascination for the 2nd time. Now my mom is wanting to go on her first cruise. Trying to decide if we should go on Fascination again or try the Valor. We definitely want to go to Half Moon Cay & both go there. It would either be in April or September when we go. Anyone been on both?

My thoughts. 9/27-10/2 STYX Fascination cruise. Had a blast. 10/5-10/12, Valor. Felipe Couto, the CD, was a ball and fun to be with. Loved the ship and ports, but, our only complaints were, after dining, when later in the evening, for coffee, just as soon as you walk through the sliding doors from the lido into the lido resturant, you might just as well keep walking to the very back of the resturant area. Why, everything is shut down for cleaning and stays down till morning. That was the only ship I have seen this on. 10PM icecream, same way. Our late nite tea, the same way, last open site is way in the back. It is not just 1 or 2 machines, ice cream as well, it is everyone of them till you get to the very back of the resturant. Want to have a better ship, it 2 goes to HMC and GT, the Breeze. Twice in 3 months and loved every moment. :D :D

  5. I was on the same cruise and although I had early dining when I booked the cruise when I checked in I had your time dining on my card...we thought about changing it but we just rolled with it...every night we went to dinner around 6 and never had a wait...seemed like alot of waiting around 730.

I thought Hailey in the piano bar was good...we went two nights but I dont know how many nights she was in there.

I do agree on Adam my family did like him very much and the assistant cd Gary

We were on there for the STYX 9/27-10/2 cruise. As always before any cruise, I look to see who the piano bar player is. We enjoy being there. But Hailey, she should just stay home. Oh, we have heard worse. I haven`t looked at the list for Feb. yet., but will soon before our cruise then.

  6. AHOY SHIPMATES,..........Parking changes every few months but we have found that V.I.P. parking on AIRPORT rd. (next to Park n ride) is the fastest ,better busses and most professional. The total cost with tax is $37.and change . same as the other one. No reservations needed. If you book on line some of the websites charge $5 more. You cannot get in till 1045 because the port will not let anyone in till 1100. Hope this helps. SEA you in JANUARY

    gary

That is why we park at the port. May be more money to park, but far cheaper for us. Last Sept. 27th, handicapped parking, after we got back on 10/2, went to the car and home by 9:30. Called our friends who parked at the lot by the airport, some hadn`t gotten there yet, they were all from SC & Ga. Cheapest isn`t always the best, all depends on how fast you want to get home. Like you said: sea you in Jan., but we will be back in Feb. ourselves. Bon Voyage again. :D:D Oh, forgot to mention, we are all diamond or platinum.

  7. Just back off the Valor. :D Spencer tours, one of the best tours we have ever taken. Took the catameran from the ship to Soufriers where we boarded vans for the island tour, then back to board the cat once again to go to the beach between the Pitons. Stayed at the beach for about 1.5hrs. Then on our way back to the ship on the cat, we stopped at several places along the way for pictures and what the places were and represented. Spencer, his daughter and crew on the cat, were outstanding, the best people to know and have fun with for a day.Our whole group along with Spencer, didn`t want the day to end. Go and have fun like we did..:D

  8. We did the East Side Tour a week ago on the 13th and HAD A BLAST!!!!!

What a bargain.. we easily drank more than $25 in the beer they offered us. HIGHLY recommend this tour!!

Yes you can easily drink more than what you pay for the tour. I know I had my share. The other bus we had, didn`t take them too long to empty theres out as well. Asside from that, the main thing is that we had a blast with our drivers as well as the stops for the tour. Love my Curacao Blue I brought home.:D The beach was just awesome also. My only complaint there was, the bar is too slow making the drinks. Looking forward to going back again.:D

  9. Hi, Ginny

    I'm sure you'll be fine.

They did seem like very nice people. I was just annoyed at them quoting us a higher price than those that they booked last minute at the dock. :o

Ginny, that part I have to agree with you on. There web site does specify that on 10/1, there prices go from $20 to $25. Did you ask, I presume was Sadira there holding the sign, why the difference in price? Sadira is the person holding the CC sign below in the picture.

  10. We were scheduled for this one on Nov. 12. Unfortunately, the bus broke down. People had to push it out of the street. Just came back from the cruise and there's more to the story....after I unpack and read my mail.

One thing though....we were quoted a price of $25 over the internet. When we got there I confirmed "$25, right?" I was told YES. Talking to the others (who did not book over the internet, but were just coralled at port .... they were told $20!).

When we were there for our 10/3 tour, ours was $20, but had been locked in for almost 2 months. On there website, it does say 10/1 the price goes to $25. Other than that, this is all I know. We had an outstanding time.Dispite what did go wrong with the bus, did they get another?

  11. This video was taken from our 10/3/13 tour with Irie Tours while on the Carnival Breeze. The crew and staff gave us such a fabulous time that none of us wanted it to end. If wanting a very fun and intertaining tour, this is just one of there tours to take.

  12. We packed up and headed back to the port area for a little shopping. I think we were back here by 1ish. If you're making a stop to Curacao, book Irie Tours. You'll love it!

CC member alfthecruiser_1 and his wife. They were by far the cutest couple on the ship! Hey Al and Gayle! :D

The day in Curacao with Ariel, Sylvian, Bob, Dennis, and Sadira, the cura and samba buses, was the best climax to any last tour anyone could have on any cruise. Hopefully with this group will one day do again. Be naughtier next time..

  13. We just booked the Destiny once again for Dec. This may be the last time on her to see our friends, Noonan, the CD, and Shorty, the ACD, along with several other close friends before the tranformation into the sunshine next year. We will not go on the renamed Destiny after that. Superstition..
