We have tried to check in for an upcoming cruise via the app but it does not appear to accept our passport issue dates, keeps just deleting it.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Yes, I had a similar issue. It was frustrating because my passport date field was not accepted, but my wife's passport date was!

I tried several times and using different devices. After about 10 attempts, of "restarting" the entire passport scan requirement, it worked. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason why this happened.

  2. Hi,

For those disembarking in LA, does anyone know if Princess provide a transfer service to all airports ( Burbank, Santa Monica etc.), or just to LAX International?

Also, if transferring to LAX international, how long should I allow to clear immigration (as I am a UK passport holder) and for journey time?

Any information would be helpful. Thankyou.

  3. We are just back from completing the round trip voyage. The longer stops at the bigger towns (eg Trondheim, Alesund, Tromso) were on the northbound run during the daytime and there were more excursions on the northbound leg, but it's all down to what you are looking to experience.

It's an amazing trip whichever route you decide! We got to see the northern lights on five nights out of six above the arctic circle and they would sometimes start soon after dark...5.30pm was the earliest and it caused the dining room to empty when they were announced!

We would highly recommend you invest in some under-shoe removable crampons. In many ports, the conditions underfoot were treacherous and they were a life saver in terms of making getting around easier.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I know that gratuities can often be a minefield and for the nations of the world where tipping is not second nature, Princess (along with most other cruise lines), have a system whereby, if we wish, a daily gratuity amount is automatically deducted from our accounts "for our convenience". We are always happy to have this applied to our account as we think it is helpful in the "who do we pay and how much do we pay" dilemma. We also think that it is only fair that the back room staff in the laundry and the kitchen etc. receive a share of the tips as well as the front line staff like the waiters and stewards. Of course, we are free to give an additional amount to anyone should we want to.

Now, three days before our steward was to leave the ship, he left a note in our stateroom saying goodbye and wishing us well for the future. A day later, he left a second note, saying something similar, but placing a couple of loose coins on the note. Then on the last day, he left a note saying goodbye and should we like to leave a tip to find him around or to give him a call.

My questions therefore are as follows. Firstly, is it in order, or indeed common practice for a steward to be so blatant as to virtually ask for a tip?

Secondly, do the stewards know whether or not a guest has decided to opt in or out of paying the daily gratuity? If so, what right does he/she to know what transactions are being passed over a guests account?

Would be interested to hear others views. Thanks.

  5. Hi,

Not the Diamond, but we did this itinerary on the Sapphire in November/December 2015. We loved it, especially Singapore and Vietnam, the former is just such a modern, clean, efficient and safe city, whereas the latter is, to a certain extent, playing "catch-up" with regard to tourism and is all the more charming because of this.

Be aware that the major cities are a fair distance from the ports in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, so you will spend a bit of time on the road should you decide to visit.

With regard to weather, I believe that the latitude dictates that the temperature is fairly even throughout the day. Be prepared for hot, humid days and tropical downpours at some point during the afternoon.
