If they didn't want you to plug things in they wouldn't provide sockets.

If you are wondering why surge protectors are a big deal on ships, it's for safety reasons. Land-based power consists of a 120 volt "hot" leg and a "neutral" leg (plus ground), thus if the surge protector goes off, it can do so safely. Marine-based power consists of two 60 volt legs (plus ground) which carry current and total 120 volts, but the surge protector can't safety dump the power, thus it's a fire hazard. 

I always keep an eye out for "hot legs" on a cruise 😁

Hey Chengkp75, thanks that was really informative and I think I followed it.  So basically and not to over simplify, surge protectors on ships are bad.

Ok so what exactly is the issue with surge protected strips?  If the supply is clean then they shouldn't trip but if the supply spikes and your equipment is attached to an unprotected supply then it gets zapped.  Though I suspect there is more chance of voltage drop.

Handy to know there is a power bar under the TV.

As USBs are universal and 5v, there shouldn't be a problem plugging it in to either a EU or US socket and the device would drop that down anyway.

The advantage of separating charging across more than one USB block is that if you use a single block the power is shared between all ports that are in use (sorry for the use of the word port for a cruise post),   So a 40 Watt USB plug with 4 ports on it would give 10 W per port if all ports were in use.  If I used 2 USB plugs and have 2 devices on one and 2 devices on the other, more power goes to each port and speed up charging.

I was thinking of a USB A block for things that can take their time and a USB C adapter for fast charging.

With 3 sockets, I will have to be a little creative and work out what can be charged when.  Probably some kind of rotation.... ok I am getting too technical, this is meant to be a vacation.  Ah well I will just chuck a load of things in to the case and use them as and when. 

I know this might be stretching things a bit but does anyone know how much load a socket can take?

Different tech requires different connections:

USB Micro (yes I still have some things that use them)

USB C (A to C)

USB C (C to C)

USB Fast chargers

USB A

3 pin bespoke chargers

I was hoping there was a hidden socket or two elsewhere.  Working out what cables, chargers, converters etc to bring is a nightmare.

I have a feeling there are 2 US and 1 EU type and they are all by the TV stand thing.

Are there any more and during the refit, did Celebrity have the common sense to install USB power outlets?

I tend to bring a lot of tech with me and it doesn't run on air.

Thanks for that.  So basically $5 per bottle.

Lets say I had 3x a day, that would be $15 x lets say 12 days as an average.

That comes to $180 

Cost to upgrade to Premium is $295 or there about.  Thats 59 bottles of water to break even or roughly 5 bottles a day, aside from what I drink with the Classic package.

Can someone please tell me the price of a bottle(s) of sparkling water.

I have pre paid with a classic drinks package for 2 weeks.  I am happy with everything on their except for it has no sparkling water.

So is is cheaper to estimate how many I will order and pay the difference (which I have no idea as I don't have any prices) or would 14 days x number of bottles drunk work out more than upgrading the drinks package?  Lets say I drink 2 to 3 smaller bottles per day (worst case).

Anyone good at working this out?

Is it worth then upgrading from the classic package to the premium just for premium carbonated water?  I am guess probably not but lets say in 2 weeks I would use 20 bottles of carbonated water plus the service charge. I don't think the difference in price is going to be that much more for the cost to upgrade.  What do they charge $5 per bottle?  

It seems vodka is a good choice or a clear rum but its what to mix it with that is more of a challenge.

Thanks, there seems to be more choice than I thought.  I am not a heavy drinker, probably a couple of drinks in a day and some diet soft drinks.  I do like the sound of a rum and zero.

Do they keep diet cans of sprite on board?

I am booked on a cruise later this year and need some advice.

I've been given as part of my deal a classic drinks package.

Can I ask, for people that have to watch their blood glucose levels and on low carb diets or lifestyles, what generally is fairly safe to drink from that package?

I want more than tea/coffee/water but I am careful with what I eat or drink. I don't normally drink at home and save that for my cruises but this is my first cruise where I have to be careful.  I used to like a couple of ciders but that is a big no.  Any advice for both alcoholic and soft drinks?  This is new territory for me.

I can hear the groan already but I am going to ask anyway.

I get it, Celebrity is there to turn a profit.  I'm not disputing that.  What I do find a bit exorbitant is the cover charges for speciality dining and the grill (or whatever it is called).

Going back to the older times, the speciality dining was $20 per head and when you had Bistro  on 5, which was excellent, there was a nominal $5 cover charge.  This was fair, Ok I get costs have risen a little but surely not by over 100%.  Whacking the charge from $20 to $45 appears to me as a means to price out the lower end demographics.  When I book for my family to come on a cruise, I have paid for an evening meal.  To add $45 per person on top comes across as ... well... greedy and money grabbing.  Likewise with the Sushi Bar, $30 ????  For a family, who has worked hard, saved and likes to cruise, these costs are over priced and it is forcing some of your market to not bother.  My question is this:

Have you run the model of halving the cover charge and increasing the volume of people coming in through the doors?  I think you would generate more revenue this way and it may help

to break down the sense of elitism that I  believe (IMHO) is starting to grow.

Never mind the useless mustard dill, I would think its more important to learn your 2 closest fire exits and count the doors between your room and the exits.
