  1. Why not give her a huge box filled with cruise stuff and a certificate for a future cruise on her birthday, then collaborate with her to schedule the cruise for either Xmas or spring break.

That way she gets the thrill on her BD, has something to look forward to, and yet does not miss classes.

That's what I would do with my DD in college...if she was interested in cruising.

  3. How about rude things done TO crew members? As cruisers, we need to remember that they are not our playmates, personal beckon call servants, lap dogs or best friends.

They have jobs to perform. Althought they will never disagree or refuse you, if you treat them too familiarily or monopolise their time, you are not allowing them to do their work.

Secondarily, try to remember that physical contact and jestures mean different things in other (non-anglo) cultures. A pat, hug or movement may seem fine to you but convey a disrespectful or downright rude message to them.

Just be aware is all I'm saying...

  4. If you get caught short on a Freedom or Voyager class ship, remember that the boy's bathrooms are on the port side and the girl's bathrooms are on the starboard side.

However, I've still to work out how this ties in with the carpet colours :(

Port side has blue carpets...blue for boys...get it? ;)

Some ergonomics/design engineer worked many many months to come up with that. :D

  5. SS United States - Grand old lady and an absolute joy to sail in. I was 10 years old and had so much fun exploring the ship with my brother. Parents allowed me to have shrimp cocktail every night for dinner, and mom and I went to afternoon tea. Real-life dress-up.

Barefoot Windjammer Phantome - The captain actually let me sail her in open water and bring her into port on the last morning of our cruise. I slept on deck pads under the stars, and dressing for dinner was throwing a t-shirt over my bathing suit. A magical week. Davy Jones took a good one with her. One of my few regrets is that I never got the chance to sail her again.

  6. I guess a nude or clothing optional cruise is a theme cruise. We had a great time on the Bare Necessities Hawaiian cruse in March. There were theme nights and a costume and talent show.

    :confused::confused:

    Isn't that a contradiction in terms??:D

I'd love to sail a clothing-optional cruise! I have always thought of clothes as a necessary nuisance.

  7. Eeeeewwwww. So you mean you'll pull your credit card out of THERE and hand it to someone? Ick.

Yep. But I should have clarified each card is wrapped in tissue so they don't stick to me. We aren't mega-shoppers, so I don't really use it much and if DH is close by, he handles most transactions. I do carry a few singles for tips/snacks/beverages on shore, and those are in a pocket.

Never had anyone complain or pause to take my card. They are happy to receive my business, doncha know. I'd rather carry those items "near and dear" than risk being pickpocketed and go through the hassle of reporting/replacing.;)

  8. My "over the shoulder boulder holder" is my purse on cruises. ;)

On board, all I carry is my cruise card, and that is tucked into a pocket or "close to my heart".

On shore, I always wear clothes with pockets, and that's where the camera goes. Cruise card, credit card and copy of passport are again under my "cross your heart". DH carries his crackberry and water bottle, but I try to keep my hands free for shopping or holding on to banisters, etc. His wallet is in his front left pocket and I have taught him to put his hand in that pocket whenever someone approaches us.

If we are doing a beach day, I carry a canvas tote with suits, towels, lotions, etc., but nothing valuable.

    My thoughts are:

    1. I never carry anything in a bag that I don't want lost or stolen.

    2. I always carry everthing I will need if DH and I are separated or stranded. Anticipate the best, prepare for the worst.
