Tampa Girl, would you feel differently depending on the luxury level of the cruise?  I think I would.  Normally we are extremely independent, but it was kinda jarring to read the post here of the Seabourn passenger who was not offered assistance in obtaining a test.  I think I'd expect a bit more hand-holding from a luxury line.  Same as I would from upper-tier hotel.  I don't expect too much from a mainstream cruise line.

I'm genuinely curious to hear thoughts on this, as we are in new territory and expectations are being set.

I am traveling with my family and have booked very  nice rooms on Seabourn. I would have expected them to have laid out their worst case scenario game plan for us in advance so we could be prepared. I realize that this is a fluid situation, but it will be for years it’s a virus. I don’t like having new demands set 36 hours before I fly out. That is not luxury or a  “worry free promise”.

I read of another lady on here who sails on the 15th from Athens; coming from FL and she is scared of the unknown problems that could arise. That’s not being unprepared or blaming others, it’s desiring to be ready. Some folks responses to her were unkind.

Cruising should be fun. Luxury cruising should be inclusive, IMHO.

I wonder when passengers who don’t have access to texts, or even email, will find out? Is the test immediately before boarding being provided by Seabourn?

Best wishes and safe travels for you and your family!

SEABOURN UPDATE: All guests must now present a negative COVID-19 test (antigen or PCR) taken within 3 days of embark at the pier; go to *****/3fNJrF7 for details. You must also complete the Greek government's PLF before arriving in Greece, present original proof of vaccination at the pier, and arrive no earlier than your assigned check-in time. Install our Seabourn Source app for important updates: *****/SBNSource

When one opens the link, it says they are still testing at the pier AND you have to show your vaccine card AND have a test 72 hours before boarding. It’s on HAL letterhead. I didn’t realize they were the same company, other than under the Carnival Corp umbrella. The pre-cruise hotel is arranging it for us.

  3. We just received a text last night that we have to provide a negative test within 72 hours of embarkation and test again immediately before boarding. This is in addition to our vaccination cards. We are doing a 2 day add on in Athens before we board on the 14th of August. Our hotel said they can arrange the 24 hour test for our family at 25euro each, which I set up, but it seems to me like Seabourn should have arranged this since we are on their pre cruise excursion.

  4. We are flying out of the states on the 11th to Athens and hoping for cooler temps and clearer skies. I read all of Hank's reviews that I can find on the Ovation, since we are also sailing on the 14th. Thank you for sharing. We had booked walking tours through the Grand Bretagne for Thursday since my daughter (an adult) has not been to Greece and really wants to see as much as possible. We have reservations for dinner at the outdoor rooftop. I'm wondering if the air quality is too poor to enjoy this?

  5. Hi, do you know a tour operator for East London? Thank you!

    Hi all

I see there are a number of threads asking various questions and for suggestions on activities in Cape Town and other parts of SA. I have lived in Cape Town for over 10 years now (previously was in Zimbabwe), so know these parts pretty well, and have been fortunate to travel relatively extensively.

I am new to these boards, so don't have the time to go through all the individual threads, but thought I would offer my help, where I can, in this thread. So please feel free to fire away, and I will try be of help as often as possible.

(Admin, if this is not allowed, please feel free to lock/delete this thread, no offense will be taken! :) )

  6. We have our cruise ship (Celebrity Millennium) stop in Shimizu from 7:00 am until 3:00 Pm. As time is very limited - we opted for the cruise tour, but still hesitating which one to select (see below). Any recommendation/advise ?

    1. Best of Shimizu (Spend a day exploring Shimizu's unforgettable medieval castle ruins, world-heritage-listed ancient pine grove, exquisite traditional gardens, and more)

Hi, we are doing the same trip in April 2019. We are there from 12-8PM. What did you end up doing?

  7. Hi, we are thinking of taking an Asian Cruise in 2019 but I am intimidated that I do not speak any other languages. Was this a problem anywhere?

Started cruise in Hong Kong, then Vietnam (Hanoi, Da Nang, Saigon) then Bangkok ending in Singapore, 2 weeks. Willing to answer questions now that we've returned today. Ask away if you have any questions while it's still fresh is my mind. Also spent 5 nights in Seam Reap touring the area and Angkor Wat temples.

  8. Hi, we are sailing into Dublin next July on the Azamara Journey, while trying to book a walking tour that starts in the city center, I was asked if I wanted to book a $65 taxi to the city center where the tour starts. Is this the normal cost? We have 3 people.

  9. Hi, forgive me if it was easy to find the answer to this, but I saw mention of a valet service that picks the car up at the pier and secures it for the duration of the cruise, but no one wrote (that I saw) the name of the company. We are sailing the Breakaway in May and are looking at parking options (NJ) or doing this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
