  1. I was born in NOLA. And live less than an hour from it. If you like coffee, check out cafe du monde. I love that place but go to convington, la to get my fix. I’m the same as you, always cruised with carnival, with one with RC. Just couldn’t pass up NCL special. Plus she is so pretty. Very contemporary. Always wanted to check out NCL. I’ve talked to a lot of nice people who cruise only NCL. I think we will have a blast.

  2. Problem is even within a cruise line food can vary widely depending on the ship. I was on Royal's Jewel of the Seas & the food was amazing with lots of good choices in the buffet every meal & the MDR was always excellent. Then six months later I was on Royal's Navigator of the Seas & the food was mediocre at best with few repetitive choices in the buffet & lackluster nightly in the MDR. So I don't know that you could ever say one line consistently had the best food overall unless you had been on ALL of their ships to compare. I suspect it has a lot to do with whoever is executive chef for the ship but that's just speculation

I agree with you. I cruised on RC Navigator of the Seas and feel the same as you about the food. Now the salad was good. Cruised with Carnival and some ships were better than others. But like others said, it’s very subjective. I’m from New Orleans, so I like things with a lot of seasonings.

  3. Thanks for posting the pictures. Triumph was my first cruise and the pictures brought back some good memories. Our cabin had a window on the second floor. I was shocked how big the room was. We went with a group of friends from work... My dispatcher, partners and a fireman. All from the same shift plus our families. My husband had a blast. I was impressed with the food. And the chocolate displays. I really liked this ship. But will always have a special place because she was my first.

  4. Davy you're exactly right about everything. The MDR on both ships is nice. I picked RC because of the reviews & wanted to see what the hype was all about. I was working for animal control and my boss gave me some extra time off for my birthday in March. A special trip since I share a birthday with the hubs. We are lucky enough to have government jobs. Have the holidays & weekends off. Unless on call. So we get away a lot to de stress. He is a CSI so you can imagine. I admitted to being silly about the towel thing earlier. I was referring to the food at lunch. Maybe it's because we booked during spring break and the ship was having a bad time. I'm not stupid - I know that time of the year effects all the ships. But I could play hockey with the burger patties. Very little gets to us when we travel. It is about spending time with each other. Carnival had every thing we like. Especially for the price. It basically boils down to what you like. What you are looking for. OBVIOUSLY some are more passionate about one or the other - I'm just telling you my personal experience. Out of the two I like carnival. But we are looking into going on a cruise in Europe. I would love to try cruising other ships. And plan a family cruise with his family. Cost would be an issue in this incident. We are so close that we would have fun no matter what ship we sailed.

  5. We have cruised on two carnival ships ( triumph & conquest) and cruised on the RC navigator of the seas March of this year. I guess it depends on what you want. The food on RC was horrible. I ate the same thing for seven days. Better food at my local buffet. The deserts were the same. The ship on RC was beautiful. Only got one towel animal in my room once on the RC. Hubs said I was silly for looking for my animals. Carnival has coffee on their Lido deck, where RC doesn't. A deal breaker for him since he likes to drink coffee in the morning sitting on the deck. If you want coffee on RC you need to go to the coffee shop down stairs or wait for the restaurant to open. RC has great shows. Love the sushi class. Worth the price. We messed up cruising during spring break because the kids on the ship would jump in the elevators hit each button and jump off. I guess it depends on what you like. The hubs cruise for the food & to relax on the lido in the morning hours. I'm happy getting away.

  6. This may have been talked about already. But I wonder if she is afraid of something going wrong medically? I mean on land she can get to a hospital. She may not realize that there are doctors on board plus the coast guard can be called if needed. I know my dad will never go. But mom has cruised without him.

  7. I can't believe that we are sitting here attacking each other. When if anything our thoughts should be with the poor man who suffered a horrendous death. His family who must not only deal with the fact this man is gone, but knowing that his last moments were of that magnitude. Of the coworkers who cared about him and those who had to see it. And who had to suck it up and still make sure the passengers were happy. Of the bystanders who happened upon this horrible scene. My thoughts go out to these people.

  8. I can not believe the number of post there are a few questioning this Parent! They only mentioned that there was no counselling offered they did'nt ask for it. If there is a death in a school counselors are brought in Firefighters and Police and other first responders seek counselling after bad accidents why would you assume a Parent is equipped to handle this situation when professional people seek help in similar situations.

Amen ... Y'all do realize that counseling can cost from $100 - $250 an hour. I don't have young kids and can't afford that.

  9. I've seen some pretty terrible crime scene photographs as part of my job, but there's nothing weak about wanting to talk to a therapist to help process a tragedy. Getting counseling for your kids if you think they'll benefit is good parenting, and counseling can be expensive. A few sessions is not an unreasonable wish, and I don't see it being stated here as a demand.

The faulty elevator is the stuff of nightmares. There were minor elevator issues on my last two cruises -- doors not opening or closing -- and we always assume that nothing seriously bad could happen. Perhaps elevator maintenance will become an even higher priority after this.

Well said. I used to be a police officer and my husband is a CSI. We have seen some nasty stuff. But as a parent I would want to help my kids through this. No matter what. Like you said. Let's hope something is learned from this tragedy. Prayers to this mans family and his fellow co workers.

  10. Okay I can see your point but I will already be on the ship for two of my cruises but they still asked me when I wanted to board the ship! So there won't be a problem if somebody takes the early boarding time since I won't be in anyone's way for those two cruises so I think I was best to choose the last boarding time.

I think what you are doing is very sweet and considerate. But I'll be honest, I live less than an hour away from the port. I'm way to excited and if the hubby would let me, I would be camped out by the door. This will be my first cruise with a balcony and I get him to myself without work calling. I admire what he does (CSI) but he is mine for one week. So that is why I picked the earliest I could. You really are being sweet and at least with the back to back you can enjoy the sights. I LOVE cafe de monde. Grew up going there. Messy but oh well. Enjoy your cruises. I'm jealous :) .

  11. That is what some folks don't seem to get....If Carnival is making us pick a time too than it means they need to know when we are coming. If we all signed up for 3pm and then we all show up at 10:30 than nothing has been accomplished. I am picking the time I intend to show up which will be between 10:30-11:00.

Exactly. That is why I picked the time I plan on being there even though I have FTTF. Probably the reason why Carnival is making EVERYONE pick a time. No matter what your status is. It makes it easier for the workers.

  12. Thanks. We cruise on the 24th from NOLA on the Dream. We have FTTF so I know it won't impact us this time, but wondering what do people do that get "turned away" for showing up early? I am only referring to NOLA because this is the only port we've sailed from.

    ?

Thanks for letting us know. We are the same as katmike . We are sailing on the Dream January 24 and have the FTTF. So we should be ok.

  13. We sail on the Dream on January 31. Will we be seeing January movies, or will we be seeing February movies? Not that they change the movies that quickly, just curious....

Good question. I wonder. We are sailing January 24. We are leaving the ship on the day you are boarding. I'm curious about yours since you will be onboard January & February.

  14. K2excursion - that was awesome. Now you have me thinking about my room. Which is on the other side. Room 6484. The hubs booked it because it's an extended balcony. Our first time in one. Our fourth cruise and never stayed in a balcony. I told him I'm worried about the noise. But we are rarely in our room & go to sleep late. I wonder if I should call and see if they have anything else.
