  1. This is this OLD news, ships are back in Puerto Vallarta for more then a year after a stop for just a few weeks! Yes there have been problems last year, but that jusgt that time and it was only during the morning of May 1 2014.!

Date of article is May 14, 2015

Jalisco: Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Lake Chapala are major cities/travel destinations in JaliscoExercise caution throughout the state, particularly in rural areas and when using secondary highways. Violent clashes between criminal organizations and government authorities, and related disturbances including barricades of burning vehicles blocking major roads and highways, are ongoing concerns that typically occur without notice. Defer non-essential travel to areas of the state that border the states of Michoacán and Zacatecas. The security situation along the Michoacán and Zacatecas borders continues to be unstable. U.S. government personnel are authorized to use Federal toll road 15D for travel to Mexico City; however, they may not stop in the town of La Barca for any reason. U.S. government personnel are prohibited from personal travel to areas of Jalisco that border Zacatecas, and are prohibited from intercity travel at night.

I live 6 months of the year in Lakeside (Chapala), one wrong turn and you are on a secondary road and potentially in trouble. How many off-boat PV cruisers might do the same? All it takes is one.

  2. This was a fast paced excursion that was moderately difficult. They have 10 zip lines and a rope ladder that was @ 50' high that you can either climb or bypass to get to another platform. Most lines were between 100-1000 feet. The last one known as Superman was almost a mile long and you got up to 60 MPH. They do put a go pro on your helmet but it doesn't impede your view at all. In fact, the video is better if you move your head around while zipping.

All the lines are dual wire and the harnesses are double connected as well. They are very safe as they move you around the platforms and they know what they are doing. The ATV's were a nice break in between and we got plenty wet from the creek we went through but I thought it could have been just a little more daring.

The tube slide at the end is like the one on the ship and if you want to walk back up you can do it a couple times, time permitting. The ride back to the base camp in the back of the troop transport was a nice finishing touch!!

  3. Carlos 'n Charlie's is the island's cornball, always-crowded tourism hot spot, specializing in ridiculously huge tropical drinks and bar food. Many tourists like the raucous frat-party atmosphere, and, after more than one libation, you'll be lucky to stagger back to your ship. :D

La Mission serves phenomenal, authentic Mexican food at exceptionally reasonable prices. The open-air surrounds provide respite from the heat, and menus are available in Spanish and English. We highly recommend the tortilla soup. (Just off of Av. Rafael E. Melgar, the main street that runs in front of the pier)

  4. We don't go until the last week of October. I can't come quick enough that is for sure. People are already saying I'm crazy to be eating seafood off street carts. I don't care. lol

I eat off the carts 1x or 2x/wk but I live in MX and am used to it, know which vendors thoroughly cook their vittles and the ones who don't.

If you are jumping off a cruise ship and feel the need to grab a bite from a cart, understand the risk. The wrong cart and there goes your cruise.

  5. Hi all

I'm a somewhat experienced cruiser, but new to Cruise Critic - and to this forum.

So I have a newbie question -- I am an "LGBT" individual. But I'm neither a "gay" cruiser nor a "lesbian" one. I identify as "bisexual", as does my girlfriend. Another of my potential travel companions identifies as a transgendered woman.

I'm guessing this is still the right place to discuss my questions, and curiosities, about gender and sexual orientation-related cruise topics.

I have other questions but want to start "in the right place" -- so I'll wait for responses before diving in. :)

Bee, my wife is bi, I'm all Male, ask away! :D
