  1. I'm glad its not just me! I have tried laptop, desktop and mobile but cannot get on to the loyalty page.

A couple of weeks ago we had the email saying that we had reached Baltic level. This was followed a week or so later with the email saying that the previous system from covid times was being updated. Keen to find out if we still held the exhalted status I tried to check but to no avail.

The only thing I could do was log into the Cruise Personaliser for our upcoming cruise and that did still state Baltic. I'm sure it can't just be a few CruiseCritic members that are affected.

Thanks guys. My wife doesn’t read classics. She like all the current crime authors. Will take a look though.

I use a website called BookBub. They email you a list of free or 99p books every day of your favourite genres. I also  like crime and this has opened me up to lots of new authors as well as books by my favourite writers.

I thought the Headliners who left Aurora on Oct 3rd, (with us), had been on for much longer than that, I am sure we were told they had been on for a long time - more then 3 months, but I know one of them had joined towards the end of that stint, rather than at the beginning of the stint.  Could it have been that just a couple of them had changed before your cruise?  Is it Aurora you were on then?

We were on that Baltics cruise too and were definitely told that they were a new troupe. They were very good.

I think I’ve read that the £50 deposit onboard offer is no more, but would be grateful if someone can confirm. Failing that, we are on Ventura in a few weeks so will check then, although I rarely if ever visit the future cruise desks, as they seem to be open very short hours and when they are open there always seems to be queues - and I don’t do queues 😂.

Even £100 pp is pretty good though, as I’d be happy to write that off if our circumstances changed. My wife has a worsening disability and it’s quite a gamble for us to book 2 years out, but as we need an accessible balcony cabin we sometimes have to do so. Also, with just £200 down it would be easy to cancel and re-book if the price drops. The days of launch prices never being beaten thereafter seem to have ended.

When are you on Ventura? We go on 28th. Looking forward to it!

Yes I agree. £50 deposit is a no brainier. Easy to cancel and re-book if prices do fall. Also, a lot can happen in two years!

Whilst on Aurora in August we booked a cruise for later this month. We were surprised to find that the deposit had gone up to £100 each! I have no idea if this is across all the ships though.

  6. Not done this particular route but have done the Hilton Park one many times. I don't think there are set stops to be honest. Sometimes we get a stop and others we don't. We never find out until the driver announces the itinerary at the beginning of the journey. Some of the coaches have toilets and some don't...

Yours would be a longer journey so hopefully at least one stop.

On Aurora this month Syndicate was packed every night. 20 teams some nights. Lots of younger people joining in too. Very entertaining. Nice sociable way to end the night if you are not interested in the late show.

We were on that cruise too and really enjoyed the syndicate quiz. All of our team looked forward to meeting up for it. The Horlicks afterwards was lovely too!

  8. We have just returned from Aurora cruise and dined in The Beachhouse, Sindhu and Glasshouse.

We dine early so I think it was easier for us especially for the Glasshouse where it is basically first come, first served. We ate three times there as the food was so good.

Beachhouse and Sindhu, we booked on the 'app'. Got into both but they filled up as the cruise progressed. I did pop to the Beachhouse to confirm something about my booking to find that it wasn't on their system although it was clearly on my phone. The problem was soon sorted.

The food in all three was lovely! Booked again for 2 cruises next year!😅

  9. We booked on board last year for an upcoming cruise. There was an offer just for that day of £50 each extra OBC. The price was right and there was generous OBC for that cruise already. The passed it on to our TA who gave us extra discount! Win win! 😃

So, as I understand it, you are correct that shingles can't be caught from chicken pox, but contact with chicken pox can reactivate ths dormant virus and cause an 'allergic" (for want of a better word) reaction in a person previously infected, which shows itself as shingles.

That is how it was explained to a relative of mine some years ago.

Hi Rose. The NHS website says not, but thinking could well have changed over the years.

That's been mentioned a few times in the last few months on many ships and different cruise lines.

The problem is that many crew come from places where chicken pox isn't as endemic as it is here. Consequently they don't catch it as children when it is a relatively mild disease, and in the rather cramped crew quarters it spreads easily.

The vast majority of people (over 90%) have had it, so (apart from the chance of shingles) there is no great cause of concern. Most of us will have come into contact with it as an adult already via younger members of the family.

They have put the warning out to warn those passengers who may be particularly susceptible for whatever reason.

You cannot catch shingles from chickenpox. You can get chicken pox from shingles though, hence the confusion. When one has had chickenpox the virus stays dormant in the body and can reactivate as shingles later on.

  12. It's ironic that plastic straws are removed as are the sailaway flags yet P and O do nothing to discourage passengers from leaving plastic ducks around the ships?

A strange one for me but I daresay some folks are getting pleasure from it. Perhaps I'm showing my age 😅

  13. Hi there. I'm looking for advice from people who have done Scandinavian/Baltic cruises. We are joining Aurora in July for a Scandinavian cruise and will be visiting Sweden (3 ports) and Denmark. I see that both of these countries have their own version of Krona. My query is, would we actually need to get local currency or do they accept card payments in most places? I don't want to be left with lots of Krona as we may not do this itinerary again.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kate

  14. After watching and really enjoying the TV series 'The Diplomat' set in Barcelona, on Alibi, I would love to know if anyone has visited any rooftop bars? The ones on the series looked lovely but I have no idea where they were.

We have an overnight in Barcelona in the Summer and would love to visit one of these bars for pre-dinner drinks.

    Mnay thanks, Kate

  15. On a recent cruise on Iona there was an announcement in the Horizon that there would be £50pp OBC extra for all cruises booked the next day. There was a long queue but worth it, added to the already generous OBC for our chosen cruise. We will always consult Horizon now before any onboard bookings.

What level do you have to be to get a calendar? I’ve never had one. I do get the Moments magazine though. Ventura’s captains don’t go very far forward though, I’m going in June and it only goes up to March!

I think think calendars start at Mediterranean level. Our daughter is on Atlantic and she doesn't get one. We are Carribean but I think we were getting them before we were at this level. Don't quote me though... 😅😅

What e mail address did you use please

I used custdb@carnivalukgroup.com initially as that was the only email address that responded to a problem we had previously. They forwarded it to Loyalty@pocruises.com

I received calendar within a week of my message!

I got round to e-mailing P&O yesterday re calendar & Moments hard copy.  Bit more interested in receiving Moments to see who is skippering our forthcoming cruise.

Someone has put the Captain details on the facecloth pages.😅
