  1. I had to post after hearing about J. Heald saying that they are going to stop giving out the "ship on a stick". I haven't seen any posts yet (but I have to admit, I didn't look too hard;p).

It got me to thinking about all the people who are constantly complaining about the cutbacks. I don't know about ya'll, but I can live without the chocolates, table cloths, "ships/stick" etc. The one thing I never see mentioned is all the upgrades that have been done.

at said.... how about a positive post for once! :D

Name your favorite upgrade you've seen on the ships. I'll start it off ..... Guys Burgers!!!! Absolutely love them!!

I hope Carnival does NOT STOP giving out ships on a stick. My husband and I always make it a game as we try to "win" one on each new ship we cruise on. I know its just a piece of plastic, but to us they are fun collectors items and reminders of a great time.

The new upgrade I LOVE is the Hub App. It makes the ships itinerary and maps so much easier to navigate.

  2. After cruise with 4-6 people, what method is best for getting back to airport? Have never used Carnival transfers. Time and convenience to us is a higher priority than finding lowest rate.

We used Shuttle express for all of our transfers. They picked us up from the airport when we arrived in Seattle right on time and took us to our hotel. The next morning they arrived at the hotel at the scheduled time to take us to the pier. When we returned from the cruise they were waiting on us to take us back to our hotel and the next morning again arrived on time to return us to the airport for our flight home. For all 4 transfers it was only $55 per person or $111.00 per couple plus tip. I'd say that was a wonderful bargain. I HIGHLY recommend Shuttle Express. :)

  3. It seems a little early, but we are starting to search for and accumulate our cold weather gear and other items to pack for an August Alaska cruise. We have a few nights we are eating in the Steakhouse. Packing space is at a minimum and we are wondering if the dress code expectations for men are more relaxed on an Alaskan cruise for the Steakhouse. I have read that expectations in the MDR are a bit more relaxed.

For anyone out there who has actually had dinner in the steakhouse on the Legend on an Alaskan cruise, do you think nice khakis and a nice polo would pass muster or will DH need dress shirt and tie?

I hope someone answers this question, because we cruise in a week and would like to know as well. We are only eating in the steak house 1 night which will be our 35 wedding anniversary so hubby will probably wear his suit, but it's still good info to know. Happy Cruising. :)

  4. Sailing on 7/12. My check-in documents say I can board from 1-3 pm, for a 4 pm departure. We are not elite level (Gold), are not in a suite and do not have FTTF. What is the best time to actually arrive at the port to start the process of dropping off bags and checking in? Our preference is to arrive as early as possible to make the most of the first cruise day, without arriving so early that we can't drop the bags, etc.

    Thank you

Greetings AZ Gurl, We are also cruising on 7/12. We are SO looking forward to it. We are flying in on the morning of the 11th to do a little sightseeing before the cruise. We are using Shuttle Express to pick us up from the air port and take us to the hotel and then to the ship the next morning. The time they scheduled to pick us up from the hotel to go to the ship was 11am. I don't know if it's just their schedule or they know boarding isn't happening till then. We do have FTTF so we will see how it works out. Good luck and Happy Cruising. :)

  5. Sorry for the snarky-ness it just came out that way as I have seen that question in particular, been asked multiple times, but still wanted to put the answer out there. I apologize just been a long day.

The Tracy Arm info was for one of the previous posters and no one had answered him, but I couldn't do a multiple quote.

Again, sorry about that just a trying day.

No worries, i understand we all have days like that and I agree the same question is asked all the time, but I usually don't worry about the exact nights till we get on the ship so I don't really pay that much attention to the answer. But today a friend who is cruising with us this time wanted the info ASAP because they were considering a specific excursion to book and wanted to make sure it didn't conflict and asked me to find out even though I didn't have the time to do the research. That is another reason we called Carnival, but then got that crazy unhelpful answer. As I said before... No worries. It's all good. Thank you for the apology though.:):)

  6. If you research on the forums or reviews you would see it is the 2nd day and 2nd to last day for elegant night.

Also, for Tracy Arm There is NO EXCURSION LISTED on the day of Tracy Arm. It is in the Juneau tours, even though it has nothing to do with that. Then it will say that Reservations are very limited and that you have to E-MAIL THEM not Reserve though the site. I reserved back in Jan and they said they were pretty much full and we barely got on the last boat. Although I would defiantly still check as they sometimes will do another one if there is enough demand. However, it is kind of their fault since they don't list it in the right place... Also, its the only tour you don't pay for up front, it is added to your room when you board.

Hi Krystm, Thank your for your prompt answer concerning the elegant nights. It was very helpful. I don't know why you felt the need to add the admonishment about researching the forms and boards. I knew it was there somewhere, but because I was on a time crunch and wanted to find the answer for someone else who is cruising with us, I thought the kind folks at Cruise Critic could help me help my friend faster. I'm sorry if my request was a burden.

Also, Even though I didn't mention Tracy Arm in my post so I'm not sure why you did, I also know all about the Tracy Arm excursion. You are correct about it being listed in the Juneau excursions and all the other information you listed.

I E-mailed my request and received my confirmation months ago. We are good to go. :)

  7. Hi All, We will be on Carnival Legend on July 12th. We were wondering what nights elegant nights were on. I know there are 2, but can't find out exactly when. Carnival was no help when we called them. They would only give us an estimate of the 2nd or 3rd night after we leave Seattle and the 2nd or 3rd night from the end. That makes no sense.

  8. We've already paid for everything. We booked our excursions months ago, all paid. For this cruise, we wanted to make sure we got what we wanted to do, so we didn't wait. The only one we couldn't pay for yet was the Tracy Arm one, since they don't do advances payment for it.

Same here, We prepaid for everything we could. As you said we couldn't prepay for Tracy Arm, but at least its booked and the funds allocated for it. The same with the steak house. Reservation made and funds set aside. We cruise on the 12th

  9. Our Legend cruise is scheduled for July 12th. In planning for electronics I read that there are USB ports on the sides of the of the flatscreen TV. This could be used to power up smart phones etc and make better use of the outlet on the vanity desk.

    How was your trip?

I don't know the answer to your question. We will be on the same cruise as you. Just stopped by to say Hi. :) We are SOOO looking forward to it. :D

  10. Earlier this afternoon I got onto the Carnival website to make reservations for the Steakhouse. I was under the impression that it was called The Golden Fleece. Within the hour I received an email:

    Dear Sharon,

Thank you for choosing Nouveau Restaurant for your dining.

Your reservation request for 5 Guests at 6:30pm on July 12th, 2016 has been confirmed.

Should your plans change, please keep us advised at lesupper@carnival.com.

We look forward to serving you!

    Nouveau Manager

    Zana Ukic

    Carnival Legend

Is Nouveau Restaurant the same as The Golden Fleece?

I don't know anything about "The Golden Fleece", but when we requested a dinner reservation for the steak house it listed Nouveau as the name of it.

  11. We learned about the change at OE by reading Cruise Critic a couple of months ago. I called Dolphin immediately and they handled our change quickly and efficiently. We had booked the combo tour originally and were told it would be honored.[/quote

We were told the same when we contacted them. Looking forward to it. When is your cruise? We cruise July 12th so our whale watching and Mendenhall adventure will be the 16th. :)

  12. That's a great idea! I'll share that with our other couple. Might be something we'd like to do - seeing more of the city AND get in the glacier!

    Thanks!

If you haven't already reserved a car by now you will probably have a hard time finding any available. It might be different in Juneau, but when we reserved a van to drive to Emerald Lake in Skagway we almost didn't find one and that was 6 months ago. And our cruise is next month. Good luck and have fun.:)

  13. I just found out - by pure accident - that Orca Enterprises is no more - at least not as an independent company. When I put in OE to remind myself how long the tour would be, the new website/company popped up, No notice whatsoever from OE.

They have now become a part of Dolphin Jet Boat Tours.

DJBTs' website states they will be honoring all previously booked tours.

I'll be contacting the company ASAP - and suggest if you have booked a tour thru OE to do the same.

Oh, and BTW - no Mendenhall glacier tours unless you book their Great Alaskan Tour which includes the glacier, the whale watching and a stop at Alaskan Brewing Co.

    Good Luck!

We booked with Orca Enterprises as well back in December to get the early discount. We booked both the whale watching and Mendenhall glacier package. Last month I just happened out of the blue to decide to reconfirm all my confirmations and that is when I found out about the change.

I immediately called the new company who bought them. Dolphin Jet Boat Tours and spoke to them. I reconfirmed our original reservations and she e-mailed me our new conformation forms through them. What we were told was because we had originally paid for both whale watching and Mendenhall we would still do both, but they weren't offering that any longer now. So, I would still give them a call to get your conformation from them, and if you scheduled and paid for both through Orca you should still be going to both. Can't wait till next month :D:D

  14. I agree with everyone else. I wouldn't risk not getting back to the ship on time from a situation I knew was iffy to begin with. We are also renting a van and driving to Emerald Lake during our July cruise. We renewed our passports months ago. If we hadn't we wouldn't be going.

  15. I really hope you budgeted trip insurance into your travel expenses. If the $5 is an issue, then I hope you have plans in place for emergency as the onboard medical clinic isn't inexpensive, and an emergency disembarkation can be very costly.

I know this from experience, and will never cruise without insurance... we are finding out just how nice it is to have had it this last cruise.

    Just a thought...

I totally agree. We've never had to use it, but still get it on every cruise we take. My motto is....... I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. :)

  16. Hi all,

I'm cruisin out of Port Canaveral Dec 7th, and went to book at Park-n-Cruise. Noticed they charge for 8 days for a 7-day cruise. Is this normal? Don't remember that last time I used one of these and if so, do you get your money back for that day?

I'm not sure how you calculated the days. All I know is they charge for the day you arrive AND the day you leave. That's customary. We have used park and ride services in 2 of our cruises. 1 in Port Canaveral and the other in Jacksonville. We love the service. Hope this helps and have a fabulous Cruise . We went on a Halloween cruise just a few weeks ago and had a great time. In fact we're ready for another. :p:):D

  17. Just looking at the Radisson Parking website at http://www.parkportcanaveral.com and notice they also charge for departure and arrival days like the port does. In other words, 8 days for a 7 day cruise.

We are cruising from Sunday thru Thursday on the Sensation. The price for this through "Park Port Canaveral" is $31.55. The price at the terminal is $75.00. I think we got a GREAT deal !! :) Even if we have to wait a little.:p

  18. We used Cruise Parking last weekend for the Sensation and waited about 15 minutes from the time we unloaded our luggage until we were on the bus. The ride was about 10 minutes to the port. Waited about 15 minutes when we returned after we called to be picked up. Had my mother so the price was only $4.99 per day. Regular $5.99

What did your mother have to do with it, because I'll have my mom too?

  19. We parked there for our last cruise. It was fine. No problems to report.

Thanks so much for the info....:) One more thing, Can you tell me how long you waited after you arrived at the parking location until you were taken to the terminal? I don't want to get there and have to wait an hour before we are on our way to the terminal.

  20. We will be leaving in the morning on our cruise. I've just discovered a park and ride shuttle service that is a lot cheaper than parking at the terminal, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences (Good or Bad) with the company? It's called "Park Port Canaveral" located out of the Radisson Inn. :)

  21. I have been checking and haven't seen any cruiser pics yet. I have 2217 in Jan.

You might have to be the first to come back with pictures/videos :)

We leave in a week on the Sensation and we have a porthole cabin. They are great. I was in one last year on the Inspiration, but didn't take pictures or video. I'll make sure I do this time. The room does seem larger and with having 2 large port hole windows it's bright and open. Loved it. :)

  22. Ok, from what I have read I am allowed to carry onboard 12 cans or 12 bottles. I thought it was no more than 20 ounce bottles but I checked prices at the store today and they don't sell a 6 pack of 20 ounce diet coke. They come in 24 ounce bottles or an 8 pk of small bottles. Has anyone taken the 24 ounce bottles on? I would rather take on the bottles instead of cans so I can put the lid back on when I don't want to finish a whole one at a time.

I always buy a soda card but I am hoping to just carry some on this time.

    Thanks

On 3 of our cruises we bought the soda cards (very expensive) but our last cruise we took a carry on piece of luggage and FILLED it with water and 1 pack each of bottled Pepsi and Sprite. (Don't remember the size of the bottles) The luggage was opened and inspected and then we were sent on our way with no problems. I am going on another cruise in October and already have my water and a 8 pack of 12 oz bottles of Pepsi for my carry on luggage. I don't anticipate any issues. Just remember you can't have it loaded, you have to bring it on board yourself. Hubby isn't going this trip.:( I'm cruising with friends, so I don't need to take as much for just myself. Good luck and I think you'll be fine.:)
