  1. If you are on the newer ships, as I sailed on the Breakaway in November you can download NCL's iconcierge app on your smartphone. Its helpful not only for viewing the freestyle dailies and making dinner reservations but you can text and call other cruisers for just 7.99! Very helpful when locating your party!

  2. I couldn't agree with your decision more. 5 preteens in am oceanview...maybe. 5 adults? Cramped isn't the word. And just 1 bathroom/shower to share! You would've been miserable. Good for you sticking to your guns! Your cousins can still split a room together for affordability. [emoji2]

  3. So this should be interesting to say the least. My sister and 2 cousins wanted to come so I had a mini suite comp and figured we would be a little squished but we will deal with it and be like when we were kids. Now another sister wants to come omg we have to downgrade now to a family oceanview that holds 5 OMG this should be interesting. I'm gonna get a spa pass just to use the shower and bathroom up there lol. I would love to get a 2 bedroom suite but they don't have the money and I don't have $10,000 to shell out for all of them as opposed to paying $400 each for the OV cabin kind of a huge difference lol. And I had told them of the $400 amount for the cabin so I asked anyone of u want tomdo a studio or 2 of u get an inside? They would have to pay over $1000 each and no ones volunteering so I guess we will make do. We better all lose some weight before this cruise lol

Lol Sadly I completely understand. Us gals are planning to share a balcony afted each having our own balconies this past sailing. It will be tight in a balcony with 3 people and you're talking fitting 5 into an OV! I didn't evem know that was possible. Thought 4 was the max for OV. It'll all work out. Maybe prices will drop and you'll get bumoed up closer to sailing date! [emoji6]

  4. What happens if you get out there on the plank, look down and faint? I hear everyone talking about how easy it was and how they got over being nervouse as if they have good balance. What if you lose your balance and fall to the side if the plank and are panicking too much to get back up? Is there someone watching to lure/wind you back in? I'm sure i would have a panic attack attempting to do the ropes course period due to my fear of heights but what happens if any of this occurs?

  5. Hey folks,

I remember admiring the features of the Breakaway since before they started building it and recall that in honor of the New york theme, there would be Sabrett hot dog carts on deck somewhere. Did these ever make an appearance? If so, are they still there? I don't see them listed anywhere on the NCL website. I know this couldn't have been part of my imagination lol Let me know if they got axed.

    Thanks!:)

  6. Hi Howard, i had a balcony on the Jewel and have a studio booked on the breakaway this time. My birthday is a sea day, the last day of the cruise actually. Hopefully that will be a spa treatment day and the Cirque show/dinner. I kinda like that idea of doing my own thing during the day on sea days and meeting up for dinner, late shows or even some port excursions. I plan on keeping my Studio for the lounge access and decided against upgrading.

  7. You're traveling by yourself, so you get to call the shots! If someone you meet suggests you do something that you don't want to do, just say "thanks, but I think I'm going to hang by the pool and read today - I'll catch you at karaoke later" or whatever. If they push, just tell them that you're traveling by yourself because you want to be by yourself. It's a rare person that would push and try to intrude further.

    Have a great trip :)

That sounds like a great response! Thanks! :D

  8. I don't have children or a significant other, but completely get the need for "YOU" time as I need it myself. As a parent, I can only imagine because you literally get no days off. I don't believe its selfish at all. I think you'll be rejuvenated and should at least do it once a year for yourself (Not Mother's day) if you can't do it more often. :)

  9. Hello all,

I will be taking a solo cruise to get away from my everyday life and those in it as well as celebrate my upcoming birthday in just 68 days. I need alone time more than you can imagine! While I have joined my roll call in hopes of meeting other solos who are sailing with me and maybe to share an activity or two, maybe even dinner and drinks with, I still have a great need for some peace and quiet to just hit the reset button. I don't want to barricade myself in my cabin either.

I'm a cheerful people magnet and don't mind the company of others, however I fear that there may be others who may be looking for a cruise companion. I don't necessarily want to be attached at the hip with anyone during my week long vacation. How would one kindly/politely let a fellow cruiser know that I do not wish to plan an entire day of activities together without sounding rude or as if I do not seek their company at all? (I don't want to turn anyone off) I'm a go with the flow gal. I may want to read a book poolside with my headphones in (Could be the New Yorker in me lol), then meet up for karaoke or a comedy show later.

  10. I agree with you totally; I found it was nice even just meeting other studio people within the corridors of the studio on the Epic. Also, the Studio eliminates some things like the desk (had one on the inside in the Jewel)

I really don't think the studio net square footage after all was said and done was much smaller than a inside.

If the spread for me to upgrade is low come October I'll do it again but other than that I am happy in the studio.

I am pleased that the Escape will have 83 studios; I might go ahead and book that shortly

Hi Howard! Your name looks familiar. Did you sail the Breakaway last December? I was an original member of that roll call but had to back out. I'll be sailing the Breakway this November and look forward to finally getting a first hand experience of the studios!!

  11. Try to see it from another point of view. The Studio cabins...are another experience rather than simply looking for the cheaper price. Sure a shared inside may be cheaper per person than a studio, but then you lose card access to the Studio Lounge. Not only that, if you are sharing an inside room, technically speaking you lose more square footage per person. Some people really like they're privacy, I know I do!

Now if you choose an inside over a studio and you're lucky enough to have it all to yourself, you've got more square footage but miss out on the Studio lounge amenities. You actually are paying for that 24 hour access, not just during the scheduled solo meetup, which I see as a plus! :)

  12. I'll be 29 in December when I have my 2nd solo cruise booked. I do hear that more people around our age tend to cruise on Carnival, mainly for pricing. I however chose to Sail on NCL because of the Studio Cabin and its sailing from my home port in NY. I definitely hope there will be other solos-mid 30s sailing, if I'm lucky but I'm not expecting it.

  13. So I have my 2nd solo cruise booked for my Birthday in December. My first solo cruise, I had a balcony cabin which I chose to bring 98% of my meals back to and eat in privacy and stare at the ocean. (I dread finding a seat in the buffet area during breakfast, ugh!) This time I have an inside Studio Cabin booked on the NCL Breakaway and think I will feel quite bored in that confined space with nothing to look at but the four walls and tv. It'll feel like I'm in my bedroom at home...for 7 days!

I'm not sure I'm open to being seated in the dining hall with a table of people I don't know. While I'm not really an introvert, I just fear the awkward convos: Why are you so young to be traveling alone? (I'll be 29) I've also considered that there will be a solo travelers meetup the first night so I've got my fingers crossed for meeting some other folks that wouldn't mind doing dinner/lunch together. What other options are there otherwise? Plant myself at bars with my reading device and hope I hit it off with other travelers. Not many people my age travel alone just after Thanksgiving/Beginning of December.

  14. I'm 28 and planning my 2nd solo cruise on NCL Breakaway to celebrate my birthday. My last was on NCL Jewel, and due to the time of year and ship (early Dec) it probably was the main reason I didn't see too many solos around my age group. I completely understand not wanting to be around the younger 20s crowd that loves to party 24/7.

I wasn't completely bored but this was because I had a balcony cabin and I'm pretty friendly and open to making new friends. Still most of my shipmates were over 50. I'm expecting a better turnout hopefully of 30s since there will be studio cabins on my sailing this time.

  15. Hey! I'm also 28 and this will be my 2nd solo cruise. Sailing on the Norwegian Breakaway for my 29th bday for the exclusive access to the studio lounge for solo cruisers. The prices aren't bad either for the solo cabins. While its true that you're likely to run into more people our age on Carnival, I sailed it once and found it to be the Walmart of cruise ships unless you sail one of their newer ships.

Take a look at some of Norwegian's solo priced cabins on their newer ships, Epic, Breakaway, and Getaway!

  16. Someone referred me to this thread and although its over 6 months old I just want to say THANK YOU for writing. I too (27 yrs old) will be doing my 2nd solo cruise this year on Norwegian Breakaway to celebrate my 28th bday. Did a solo cruise on the Jewel a couple yrs back and did not have as much fun as you've posted. I definitely think the Studio Lounge makes all the difference in connecting other solo travelers/singles with each other. Thank you so much for making me feel more confident in my choice to try solo cruising a 2nd time around!!!:D
