  1. I just came back from my first cruise yesterday and had a wonderful time!!! This thread was a huge help to me while packing so I thought I'd put in my two cents since now I'm not a first timer anymore ;)

    Do:

    - Bring a highlighter - I used it EVERYday to highlight what we wanted to do for the day

    - Pack conditioner - our shower didn't have any and that salt water will make your hair feel like straw!

    - Bring some underwater cameras (if you're going somewhere that involves water) - we brought three and used all exposures! It was fun to be able to shoot some of the fish while snorkeling

    - Bring any and all medications you might think you'll need. It would've been $90 to visit the infirmary on our cruise and I did get sick the second to last day with a cold. We had brought Nyquil and Advil and I was so thankful as the shop on the boat sold a small box of cold meds for $14

    - Be prepared to encounter some rude people aboard the ship. Not everyone has manners and some treat the staff very rude - I had to learn to just let it go since it's not my business, but it is irritating.

    Don't:

-Forget to say please and thank you - the staff are all wonderful and there to make you enjoy yourself, but they still deserve kindness!

-Think you have to do everything. Bring along that handy highlighter and do what you want to do!

-Be afraid to try something new! All food is free so order whatever you want! If you don't like it, order another entree!

-Spend too much time in the sun if you burn easily! - I saw SO many people burnt burnt burnt on our cruise and in so much pain on the second day! Bring along that SPF and reapply that baby! And find some shade if you can!

-Forget to enjoy yourself!!! I guarantee you will love cruising!

  2. Amen Sister! I completely agree with not judging people whether they/we wear lanyards or not. I also don't bother with a purse on board - I'm on VACATION after all! As for some of us OCD sufferers, knowing that my cabin key is attached to my body in some way without me having to look in my purse or pocket 5 times before I close the door, I LOVE my lanyard, thank you very much!

I'm not cruising to impress people - I'm there to enjoy time spent with my DH. Oh, by the way, I HAVE worn my slippers to the buffet too!

Slippers to buffet sounds comfy!! I'm very excited to lounge in my PJs whilst enjoying breakfast on my balcony! :D OMG two more days of work and then I leave for vacation!!!

  3. heehee this thread was amusing! :p I'm a first timer cruiser leaving on Friday for our cruise (woohoo!) and I will proudly be wearing my lanyard :D I wear one at work everyday too but I think there will be enough clues that I'm not at work anymore to let a little lanyard bug me ;)

I even went to KMart to pick up a waterproof one that ziplocks shut so I don't have to carry around a purse off the cruise ship. Sweet! Honestly, I could care less if I look silly to anyone else, I'm not there to please anyone except myself and my DH! To each their own, but what's the use in judging those who do want to wear one? We don't judge you for not wearing one ;)

    Enjoy your cruise OP!

  4. I THINK that that person was dreaming. THere are no freight elevators onboard. The forward elevators will be used the first day and the last night for getting luggage on and off the ship- But that is over way before midnight.

1062 will be facing a wall. you will need to go out of the cabin and go into the elevator bank there.

Alright well that doesn't sound bad! Thanks! Not sure what you mean by facing a wall but I guess I'll figure it out soon :D

  5. Hi there! Anyone have any ideas about room #1062 on the Panorama Deck of the Carnival Liberty? We have cabins above and below us but are right across from the elevators. I read someone's post where they were near freight elevators and heard loading/unloading a lot. How do I know if this is a regular elevator or freight?
