really looking at this cruise as well but the flight back to Canada from San Juan isn't great, last time we cruised out of San Juan we got lucky and overnighted in Minny in a hotel - we like it in San Juan so wouldn't mind spending a few extra days there...will see how it goes

Years ago before Maho was such a touristy place we got a spot by Sunset and others were down by Guy's and this young couple strolled up the beach and put their blanket down and must have wondered why we had all left the best part of the beach for them. Well not 5 minutes later a huge jet comes in to land and they thought it was coming for them. Once they realized that they were not going to die, they thought it was pretty funny.:D
lmfao, that would have been great to see
it is a crowded beach, was hoping to see more huge planes but we were only there for 3 hours

$8 each way per person from port to beach

We were there on the 12th and there were a lot swimming around our feet, from minnows, to 1 footers to even a shark...this would be close to where they were renting boats...my heart still races and i was close to 20 ft away from the shark when it came swooping in - prob a 4 to 6 footer

we did the Top 10 through Carnival and my wife was pretty nauseous due to the winding roads…so if you get nauseous on the ship best to take something before hand

Sorry am just posting this now. On Jan 12th I spotted a 4-6 footer 20 feet from where i was in the water. It apprached the shore and swooped to get the minnows and other 1 foot fish that were swimming there (is my guess).
As you get cabbed in there it was on the right hand side near where the boats were being rented.
Needless to say I got my arse out of there but since it was half hour in i went back in the water with 'bated breathe'...
yellow shark maybe?

was there last Monday and there were a lot of taxis

we are in the same boat (pun intended)…was going to milk it on the boat as long as we could but am sure they want us off by 9 to 930 am at the latest

Hi, am a complete newbie here(so be gentle). Me and my wife are planning on doing a 5 day cruise sometime in December or January with what would be our 18 month old. This will be our 2nd cruise but 1st with the little one. It seems they charge about 45% for the third person in a cabin, at least for a balcony. Looking to spend some of our 10,000 k in airmiles and some flight credits we have. We will be making use of the babysitting service a bit when onboard as we would be saving the cost of babysitting by going and taking her along rather than working so can afford at least 4 hours a day of it for our alone time.
Thanks for all the information in this thread. Greatly appreciated.
How to go about selecting the next family cruise?

the one out of san juan as mentioned in the op was the best one I have been on of the 3 we have went on.
We went in 2008 on a Western out of Miami with CCL for honeymoon, Bahamas in 2011 with our almost 2 year old with NCL out of Port Canaveral and then the Southern out of San Juan in 2015 with our 6 year old with CCL...have the itch to go again in 2018...new ports are preferred but I would do the San Juan again in a heartbeat, so much fun...the flight is crazy coming from the Canadian prairies. FLL or Orlando is easier and cheaper to get to than even Miami...right now it is probably a 5-7 day Disney cruise or Panama Canal of some sort
