  1. We cruised when our kids were very young. First time my daughter was about 17 mos. Then when she was 3.5 yrs and my son was about 16 mos. At the young age, they were too young to participate in the youth activities. Both times we had a BLAST! Brought some small toys, played lots, napped as a family, went to zoos and beaches at ports of call. Awesome memories, and would definitely recommend it! 😃

if you send me your email I will send info.

Sweeeeeeet!!! I'd be interested in looking at that info. My email is haduerr[at]yahoo[dot]com. (Replace the words in brackets with the symbols. 😉 ) Thanks!

We are the following week April 12th.  Which leads me to believe we will be dealing with holiday airfare pricing.  I looked at what flights are during Christmas and tried to not have a heart attack lol!

LOL I tried to look at this year's flights around the same time in April 2019 as well as summer months. Hopefully it won't be so bad. (Fingers, toes, etc crossed. LOL) Our Troop is using earned GS Cookie Money to fund their adventure - so proud, and want their $ to go as far as possible! 😃

  4. Hi, KelSny1011!

I'm traveling with my Girl Scout co-leader and 4 older Girl  Scouts (16 - 17 yo) next April from LAX to San Juan as well. It seems too early to book for many airlines, but my research showed we'd be looking at 450 - 750pp. Interested in what you find as we get closer, and I'll keep you updated, too. (We're doing the April 5th sailing - which one are you doing?)

ah nope i’m going on July 6th darn:((

Bummer! You could always switch sailings. 😉

I am sure you will have a blast! My kids have been sailing for years, and they always find friends. 😃 Definitely hit the meet and greet - all the connections seem to happen that first day/evening.

  6. The kids' clubs have some fun activities. Your 12yo will be in the teen group, which we will experience the first time this August. I believe your 9yo will be allowed to come and go as she'd like, if you sign the paperwork allowing such.

On previous cruises, my kids had a blast in the club. They'd also meet new friends and then make arrangements to hang at the pool together or do other things together. And we also managed to squeeze in "forced family fun" time together - we played games, did some ship activities, and meals.

    Have fun! =)

  7. I too am interested in sushi. I understand it is only offered at dineer, correct? Any more specific with the time frames? We plan on the MDR early seating for our dinner option. Not sure when or if we can fit it in.

We were on Explorer last year, and sad to say sushi was "meh" at best. Salmon was smoked salmon (like what you get at breakfast) and the rest was forgettable.

  8. I've used both - Dial 7 r/t when going from EWR to NYC pier and Carmel r/t from EWR to Bayonne pier. Also used Dial 7 going from JFK to NYC.

Less than happy with Carmel. We were told to meet the driver in one spot, but he went to another area and called upset that we weren't waiting for him. The Carmel driver for our return trip got lost and was more than an hour late. It happens, but no apologies or anything. To add insult to injury, his car had garbage and leftover food all over, and he drove like a maniac.

Dial 7 is fairly timely, the drivers are courteous and helpful, their cars are clean, and they drive safely.

Carmel was a tad less expensive, but I'd rather pay more for more professional service. We've got another trip planned and will be calling Dial 7.

  9. Just back from Explorer, when DS had this every night. And, of course, I took a sample bite every night. He ordered it medium rare, and most nights it was quite good. Yes, strip steak is a thin cut, but we found it flavorful and enjoyable. (One night it wasn't up to par, though.)

Incidentally, we had the filet upgrade one evening, and we were disappointed. Yes, it was a big thick cut of beef, but it wasn't seasoned properly and the texture was off. We weren't impressed and not happy to have spent the money.

  10. So glad you had a good cruise! We're scheduled to head out soon, and I have a couple of quick questions with which I hope you can help:

    - I'm seeing different info on tax being charged for the drink packages, and that it probably depends on buying the package while still in port and which port. Do you know if taxes were added to the packages you bought?

    - We also have MTD and trying to decide on a time. We would like the same waiters, but also want to make sure we don't miss the shows. Did 7:45 allow for catching the shows?

    - Also, we're also traveling with family. Were you able to make reservations for everyone, or did you need someone from each cabin present to make the dining reservations?

    Thanks so much! :)

  11. Thanks for the great feedback!

Interesting note from Wasiii on Elbow Beach. The concierge didn't say anything about the pass putting us on the public side of the beach. (She did say it was $65 per couple and would include use of lounges, towels, umbrellas.) I also received info on Cabana rentals, which started at $300 and went up from there.

The reviews for the hotel/resort seemed to be a mix bag, so started to worry about the place. Originally attracted to it because it was a Mandarin Oriental property.

I think I'm sold on Coco Reef based on the comments here. :)

Can't wait - sending off email now! :)

  12. Hi!

Interested in a day pass to one of the resorts in Bermuda and it appears Coco Reef and Elbow Beach both have options.

Any opinions on which one would be better? Traveling with kids (ages 8 and 10) and mostly interested in using beach, towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc. on the property to make it a fun but relaxing experience.

    Thanks!
