  1. The Sea Princess is doing a World Cruise from Australia around 106 days complete voyage. Typically Princess will sell this or divide the voyage into a number of shorter "World Cruise Sectors" of around 40 days or so. Later on they sell shorter sectors then shorter still sectors. It is a bit like selling carpet off the roll eventually customers buy the remnants of what's left. The sector I outlined is a 12 day sector or segment as some lines call them. This is the sector you would need to book. This is advertised on one online agents site. Transatlantic sectors on Princess cruises starting and finishing in Australia are often left with a low price. I think this is due to customers starting and finishing points with the customer base being mainly American and Australian neither group if they do a significant sized sector seem to do the transatlantic part. Princess have tried to make the Transatlantic part more interesting in recent years. A few years back it was just a few ports between UK and USA which meant that I have seen the final fare nearer departure plummet to £999 per person. As I said previously one year I banked on this and booked return Westjet airfare, premium economy at a good price about a year ahead, on a refundable basis, and waited for the cruise price to drop nearer sailing. £999 per person is not a bargain if you book Transatlantic airfare last minute, so competition from other cruisers is not strong near sail date. Westjet charge $75 penalty per person on cancellations where you have booked refundable. They charge $0 if you accept the refund in Westjet Dollars which I do not know how long remain valid. This was my fallback plan on sailing out flying home.

I have just looked on the Princess site for the cruise you mention and all accessible staterooms are taken. This cruise would have been ideal but I will check Cunard to see if they have availability. This is unfortunately the problem I have in securing an accessible stateroom, they sell so quickly but surprised they have all gone this far out..

    Onwards and upwards hey?

  2. Thanks for the information folks I appreciate all the possible suggestions.

I like the sound of the Sea Princess from Dover but I am slightly concerned that Cunard may be too stuffy and not as relaxed as say Princess/P&O which we find just right tbh.

I will continue with my investigations and keep you all posted. [emoji106]

  3. I would prefer not to have to book 2 years out, but have no choice. We need to book an accessible cabin and they are snapped up very quickly, especially now that scooter users have no choice but to book one, whether they really need one or not. They are also occasionally booked by people who are not full time wheelchair or scooter users, which is frustrating as by 2019 we will definitely be at the point where if we can't get an accessible cabin we simply won't be able to cruise :(

I am with you on that one. Only recently booked for August next year we needed two adapted cabins which were the last two in the grade and deck we wanted, crazy.

Waiting for September now for 2019. I hope I will remember that I have booked so far ahead lol.

  4. Tried Stryn taxis and they do have a wheelchair taxi which only takes one chair.

I enquired about the cost of the three mile journey and they informed me that it would be £77 return! So the new Skylift will have to wait. I checked on the Skylift website and it is £44pp return trip for that so it would work out a very expensive day for two people.

  5. I am with you on that one Stardust. We are first time suite users and looking forward to seeing our butler I wonder if it will be the same chap as yours if you are on the same side of the ship as myself. We are on the left side on B deck and it looks like you too are off to the Fjords because a week today we board the Britannia too.

  6. It looks like the bus isn't wheelchair friendly judging your reply to happytraveleruk, which was going to be my question, so could you walk to the Sky Lift? Are there pavements/sidewalks or no protection from the traffic? I got told about this attraction the other day so would really like to try it out.

According to P&O and their accessibility info on the port of Olden, the availability of accessible busses/taxis is non existent (shame).

  7. Hi mandylennon. It depends on ship and time of year as to which port your cruise ship will use. Try this link http://www.tomsportguides.com/port-guides.html#norway I am on Britannia in June and we dock June 23 in Bontelabo 2 area which you can walk from the ship to the Funicular about 15 mins but the ship may have wheelchairs you could borrow. I am in a chair so it is all accessible for walking to/from. I have booked my tickets via the Floyen website only about £8 ish and the Funicular runs every 15 minutes from 10am. There are two lines one for "I don't have a ticket" and one for "I do"

    Hope this helps.
