  1. The advantage of upgrading on board is you can do it mid cruise and then you only pay for the days left! So if on a 10 day cruise you upgrade on day 3 ...... you pay the extra for 7 days! Worth it just for the Martini bar & the mixology cocktails alone

  2. Ship: Eclipse

    Cabin #: 8253

    Deck #: Vista

    Class: 1C

    Area: Mid ship / port

    Bed near: Window/ balcony

    Quiet?: Yes

    Balcony view: Clear

    Balcony size: Larger than normal

    Wind a problem?: No

    Soot a problem?: No

Problems/comments: Kettle provided for tea & coffee making tea /coffee in the room. Balcony is triangular in shape as it's located where the ship steps out. You can't see 180 deg (ie to the rear of the ship) due to it's location.

  3. It has been a while since your cruise but I would really appreciate the feedback. We drink wine for dinner. There is a reasonable priced $39 a bottle wine that we like on the list, but I did'nt realize that wine by the bottle was included in the classic package. Was it only a few wines? Please let me know, because that would really make a difference in buying a package or not. We are leaving this week so a quick reply would be really appreciated. :-)

    Thank you.

Only wine by the glass is included in the package. The wine waiter in the MDR will open the selected bottle & pour you your "glass", often they leave the bottle near so that you can have refills as you are entitled to unlimited refills! Wines to the value of $8 a glass are included in the Classic Package & up to $12 a glass in the Premium package! Earlier in this thread someone has posted a drinks list so you could check out the wines available! I had the premium package on our last trip & had no complaints with the selection of wines available by the glass! Note mineral waters eg Evian & posh coffees were included too along with most other drink so we often finished our dinner with an Irish coffee or a baileys! My advice, do it!:) Have a good trip

  4. I see that when you purchase the beverages packages - a 15% service charge is added. If you purchase the beverage package, do folks still tip for each drink on the ship - or is not the 15% service charge meant to cover the tip?

It is not necessary, nor expected , to tip for each drink as X have already added a 15% service charge to each package. When you get your drink the waiter usually gives a receipt which shows a total of $0.... 15% of $0 = $0 so even if you wanted to I don't think it's possible to add a tip!

We did however on occassion give a cash tip as the waitress in the dining room was great and kept the drinks (glasses of wine & water mostly) topped up during the dinner! The best bit of the beverage package was not having a big bill at the end of your holidays as we had purchased & paid for the package prior to the trip! :p:p:D

  5. :)

Dear members interested in wines by the glass,

In my opening post of this thread, I listed (roughly) sixty varieties of wines available by the glass -- that is, all the varieties of which I was aware at that time. Included were roughly twenty varieties, flagged with an "m," that were on a main-dining-room wine menu.

Since displaying the opening post, I have become aware of an additional group of varieties (about twenty-five), which are listed on menus in the specialty restaurants or the Cellar Masters lounge. I have therefore decided to display an updated list now, showing all (roughly) eighty-five varieities. I will also use two new abbreviations (in addition to "m") after the prices in dollars ... and I will use abbreviations [in brackets like these] to show the national origin of the varieties. [Please excuse any errors!]

    Enjoy!

    Hi JG 51

Many thanks again for taking the time to publish the wine lists, i have pruchased beverage packages for our cruise on the constellation. We'll raise a glass to you!

I note from your profile that you list Cherbourg as your favourite port! We will be docking there on our forthcomming cruise so i'd be very interested to know what the appeal is? I plan to spend the day in the town, drinking fine french wine & eating smelly cheeses.... I have been to France before and have been lucky enough to visit the WW2 sites, Mont saint Michel etc so I don't plant to sign up for the ship tours!

I know Cherbourg as a ferry port between France & Ireland where people go to stock up on wines in the big supermarkets, fondly known as a booze cruise!
