  1. We are going on a 10 day from san francisco to alaska on August 22.   One of the days is to cruise tracy arm fjord.   There is one excursion that you can take a smaller boat so you can get closer to the glaciers.  Its 200 per person.   Would you say this is worth it, or is it just as good to stay on the ship and watch from there?

    Thanks

We have done CVS rapid tests for our recent Honduras trip twice in two days -- didn't cost us a dime.  It was $0 cost.

If you had them done in the US...its covered by the government here.   All Covid testing is free here...insurance or not.     But its not really free...the government (and/or your insurace company) does.

I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth. Florida law DOES pertain to all cruise lines dong business in Florida.  Why would you even think differently. I am saying what the current law is. You say what ever you want.

nobody is putting words in your mouth...you seem a bit over sensitive.   I will just ignore you since you seem up tight  LOL

Not False. I said nothing about the CDC. It is a FLORIDA law. Look it up and read it before telling me what I said is false. It has not changed. So there is no way Royal can ask cruisers for proof of vaccinations in FLORIDA. If you can find where Florida WILL allow it. Please post it and where you found it.

So you think Celebrity is ignorant of this and just going to sail out of Ft Lauderdale in June with REQUIRED 95 percent vaccinations????  LOL     It is obviously a Florida law that is not pertaining to cruise ships, since I dont believe Celebrity will be paying 5000 per passenger just to sail  LOL

Cruising in U.S. waters can officially resume in June.

The first large cruise ship has been approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to sail in June. Celebrity Cruises, a subsidiary Royal Caribbean Group, is the first cruise line to receive approval to sail one of its ships with paying passengers on board.

The Celebrity Edge will depart on a seven night cruise from Fort Lauderdale on June 26 sailing to the Caribbean.

"SOMEDAY IS HERE," Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, CEO of Celebrity Cruises, said on Twitter on Wednesday, announcing the resumption of cruising on the Edge.

Sorry silversneakers...didnt mean to quote your post...i know you were referring to Mardi Gras (of which we are sailing august 28 :))

Again. In Florida no company doing business in Florida (Cruise lines included) are not allowed to ask if you have been or not been vaccinated or face a $5,000.00 fine for each incident.

False...Celebrity just got approval from the CDC to start cruising end of june from Ft lauderdale...95 percent of all passengers must be vaccinated.

So there’s been a lot of threads circling the subject of Florida, but let me ask more generically, would you cruise if the cruise line did not require proof of vaccination

It’s a highly charged issue but let’s try to be civil

Personally I don’t think I would .  Not because of the fear of getting Covid (since I’m vaxed), but potentially being stranded on the ship if it gets quarantined.

    Thoughts?

Yes i would cruise...and i am ...august 28th.    I dont care if others are vaccinated....i am vaccinated.   i would go on a cruise tomorrow if i could!!

I dont get casino deals. Not to be mean, but hearing someone else got a great deal I cant get is part of what has pushed me to rcl. I still have more loyalty pts on carnival but my most recent cruises seem given over to gamblers. Carnival says they are a family cruise, but more and more they seem to be a gamblers cruise. Yes I know all lines give deals to gamblers  it's just not as obvious or seems as big of a percentage.

2020 rates were still low, but not in 2021.

Well...i do bring my mom and 15 year old DD...so still a family cruise  LOL

This was the first great deal we have received in a few years.    We did RCL on the Allure, but didnt like it at all.    We love the Carnival experience and value..even when we are paying regular prices.

Our Mardi Gras this coming August is 2400 for 3 people in a Havana Cabana room and our March cruise next year on the Mardi gras is 3400 for an Ocean suite..so we still do book regular priced rooms.  Plus we are Platinum on Carnival, so i like the few perks that gives us.

I say book where ever makes you happy 🙂

To me even that's high. My oasis march 2023 for the cheapest balcony, solo during spring is over $2200. and I think that's too high. Getting into what I call major money. At $3500 lol I think I'd stay home. True my booked cruises add up to more, but getting lots more for that price. I've quit booking.

I'm going to wait for last minute deals and hope people cancel. Prices have gotten to where I'm going to do something else. They are definitely up from what I'm willing to pay for cruising. All lines are up. I'd sit on my hands. Maybe people are booking now because they are afraid later prices will be even higher. I may be cruising a lot less in the future.

We usually sail end of March...i have one on the Mardi Gras for Aug 28th this year...mardi gras next March then a great deal on the Dream next november--that one was $932 for 4 in a balcony with 200 obc and drinks on us.   It was a casino deal, but i was surprised they were offering such a great deal a few weeks ago.

So, we are set for a few years with booked cruises....hopefully everything settles back down soon

I did a mock booking for Aug 2022 for a 7 day cruise out of Long Beach, CA. The final price for a balcony was $6,200 for 4 people in the same room. That's over double what I paid in 2018 for the exact same cruise...

    I just looked at a 7 day for aug 2022 --Panorama for August 13th  ..   4 people in a room..$3518

Not sure what you were pricing?

Carnival suites are really just about the extra space and priority embarkation, except Mardi Gras that ship is going to do something new for Carnival, maybe if its does well some of the perks will make a appearance on the other ships .   We cruise in suites and not in suites depends on sailing and what is available.   I feel like everybody is different some people can do 2 cruises for the price of one but other people like us have limited travel time so we splurge when we cruise.

What kinds of perks will the Mardi Gras have for suites?   We booked a suite next march and was not aware of anything out of the normal

Just because your company can handle things via zoom doesn't necessarily mean that every industry works the same way.  What about skilled white collar employees who are inspectors that need hands on expertise to do their job?  Take the blinders off, there are other corporate needs out there besides sitting around a boardroom table and participating in a zoom meeting.

I said "meetings"  not hands on jobs that need to be done....

My son travels for work, all over the world.  He can't have zoom or phone meetings because of the nature of his job (which involves physical inspection of equipment and is highly specialized.  He's one of 2 people in his company that have the certifications needed to undertake the work).  So you can't generalize and say NOBODY has to travel for work.

I was referring to company meetings that the previous poster stated.    I didnt say NOBODY has to travel for work...i said nobody has to travel for corporate meetings

  16. 18 hours ago, SNJCruisers said:

For some companies, there is the occasional international business trip that must be done, so it is a necessity on occasion.  Cruising, on the other hand is a luxury which has nothing to do with corporate travel.

My response was comparing flying and cruising, not how the virus spread over a year ago.

No company meeting in person is a must...we have zoom and anything can be done via phone or computers for meetings.

Scientifically proven ineffective mask?  What the hell does that mean?  Masks reduce community spead and have been shown by data over and over to be effective at reducing disease. Contries that complied with masks, like Japan, have almost no Covid.  What science are you referring to?

Why do medical professionals wear masks in surgery if they are ineffective?  Comments like these by intelligent adults completely baffle me. The politicization, 'freedom' angle is so stupid.  Its such a minor inconvenience, yet chest beating idiots want to fight to prove something about their ego.  So odd.  And 'deep government'  geeze....stop reading social media.  Its rotting your brain.  Intentional misinformation to keep you triggered and voting for someone is why you parrot those carefully engineered catch phrases.

Japans cases are on the rise right now.    And they had a large spike a few months ago ...nowhere near "almost no covid"

With the exception of mandatory vaccines, all of the other requirements I listed are currently being implemented by Royal on the Quantum.

Ok...thats one ship.    Do you think a cruise line can be profitable with 1 ship?

To be sure, when cruising resumes this year, there will be mask and social distancing requirements (for a limited time).

Since only about 60 percent of Americans have said they will take the vaccine, that is a signifant reduction in who would be eligible to cruise under a vaccination requirement.  Also, children are not even allowed to be vaccinated, since it hasnt been tested on them yet.   Now you add in the other mask and distancing...you keep reducing the number of possible customers by ALOT.    No mass cruiseline is going to be able to gain enough customers to be profitable.    There are ships to fill every week.

I never said nor implied that the vaccine is a panacea.

What I as well as others have said is that those who cruise should be vaccinated.   No vaccination, no cruise, cut and dry.  If it's 95% effective, that is better than not making vaccines mandatory.  In conjunction with the vaccines,  masks, social distancing , no self serve buffets and excursion bubbles will all add to keep the possible spread at a minimum.

This spinning of wheels going nowhere has to stop.  Get more people vaccinated, train the crews via the test cruises, start with the short cruises by the end of the summer and let's try to put what will then be 18 months of hell behind us.

With all of those rules and restrictions, you would have a very small percentage of people willing to spend money on a cruise.     The cruise companies are not going to operate with such a limited amount of people willing to have so many restrictions on there vacation they spend alot of money on.    They wouldnt even be able to financially survive with such a small group.

If you want that kind of vacation, might as well book a private yacht and go were you want all by yourself
