  1. I picked my time as soon as they were available and 11:30 was the earliest available to me. I arrived at 11:30. I assume you'd be standing in that other line if you got there early. I don't know when they let people from that long line in. They weren't letting anyone in from that line when I was there.
How far in advance can you pick your arrival time? We cruise the beginning of May 2019

  2. For meals, I found I like eating in the specialty restaurants. One thing to remember is lots of people are always walking around. They have no clue if you are alone or with a group and just out on your own from your group. So unless someone is stalking you and always checking to see if your with someone or a group, they really have no clue. The times I traveled solo before, I always reminded myself of that and that helped with the awkwardness. Think everyone should go on a solo cruise. But will tell you some of the best folks to cruise with later on future cruises are people you meet on a ship that become cruise friends. Its much better than sailing with land friends and family that are not typically cruisers. They understand cruising better, you never have to keep checking that they are having a good time or hear them complain about ship stuff or the ship.
I fully agree with you. Never done a solo cruise but I have made great friends over the years on my cruise's. We are going on the Dream in May out of NOLA with one of my cruise friends and her hubby.

Love your review. Swaying more towards the cheers

  3. I remember when sailing on an “old” ship meant that your ship was 50 years old, not 9. [emoji23]

One of my first cruises was on The Victoria in 1984. The ship had been built in 1936! Now THAT’S old!

My first cruise was on Carnvial's Carnivale. Geesh that ages me. It was back in 1991 for my honeymoon. Looking back it was a like being on a battleship compared to the newer cruise ships out there[emoji5]

  4. When comparing prices for various options, keep in mind that parking at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for 14 days will not cost $560 (14 x $40), it will cost $400, which is the maximum parking fee for up to 30 days. If a hotel with a park/cruise package has a significant additional parking charge when leaving your car for two weeks as opposed to their standard package rate for 7 days, it's conceivable that parking at the pier may not cost much more than parking at the hotel. You could then consider a relatively inexpensive hotel in NJ without a parking transportation package for an overnight stay followed by driving to the cruise terminal in the morning and parking there. Personally, I think there's value to parking at the pier that goes beyond the monetary cost because you'll be able to start your trip home that much sooner after disembarking the ship.

    Thanks for the info

  5. Call the hotel and ask. Make a reservation if you can. This us the best deal we've found for sailing from Manhattan that doesn't involve some sort of public transit.

There's no way you want to pay to park at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for 14 days plus pay for a Manhattan hotel and an extra night of $50+ parking. My impression is that Hilton Gardens has been very flexible about the length of parking because they have ample parking.

Thanks for the info. I will check out Hilton Gardens and the rate. Thinking parking is going to be the killer. If that is the case we may just look at flying in

  6. You didn't answer about the budget or the sightseeing. The Hilton Garden in Ridgefield Park, NJ offers a park/sleep cruise package under $300 for a room, parking, and round trip port transportation.

Still trying to figure out budget.

Does that include room and parking for the duration of the cruise. Our cruise is 2 weeks[emoji4]. Never done a 2 week cruise this is why I am asking truing to figure the budget out

  7. I see this made it to the East Coast departures board!

It's still very early for Jan 2019. Post back with the exact dates you would need a hotel, number of people, sightseeing objectives, and your target hotel budget. Would you be able to manage your luggage on a train/ferry + cab? Rooms in Jan will be more reasonable, particularly on weekend nights. Lodging for your car is likely to be more expensive than one night in a NYC hotel!

If New York City sightseeing is not an objective, there are a number of Park/sleep options in NJ. Parking at Port Imperial for $16/day and taking the ferry is an option. Staying overnight in the Parsipanny NJ area and driving to the pier and paying the $40/day to park is an option.

    Thanks for the input.

    We sail on Jan 20,2019.

We will have mil with us she has bad knees and can not walk fast. So huge long walk is not really a option. Better to uber or whatever

  8. Hello folks

Searched for information on hotels in New York.

What hotels are reasonable and close to the cruise port. Do they offer shuttle to the port? Are you allowed to park there while on your cruise? If not how expensive is it to park at the port?We are taking a cruise out there in Jan 2019.

I have gone out of only Florida prior.

    Thanks

  9. Here is their website: http://trikes-aruba.com/

It is a 3 hour tour. There are only 3 trikes, so if you want to do this, you need to get in touch with them as soon as you know your date, to be sure they are available. They do a morning tour at 9:00, and another afternoon tour at 1:00. It is all sight seeing and riding the trikes. They meet you just outside the cruise terminal,(we were told we had to get a taxi to them:confused:) and you walk across the street and about 1 block to get the trikes. They will explain how to drive them, and you fill out all the paperwork. Then, they take you on a quick spin to show you how to drive. The tour will begin there, and take you north to the lighthouse, and you get off, and take pictures, and continue. Next stop is the little church on the NE side of the island. Again, a few minutes to get off, look around, take some pictures, then continue along the way. We then continued down to the southeast part of the island, and stopped at a little oceanside bar and grill. You are there for 20-30 min. If you want to get something to eat, they take your order as soon as you get there, so there is time to cook it. None in our group ate, we just got cold drinks. Then we continued around to a stop along the south side of the island, the picture I posted in the previous post. Just stopped for a couple minutes for couple pictures. Then, back through town, and we were done. It was tons of fun riding the trikes. This is mostly what the tour is about, the ride around the island. Any time we stop, everyone else is in awe over the trikes, and gather round them to get pictures. Almost makes you feel like a celebrity!

Here are a couple more pictures from our tour, the first is at the lighthouse, the 2nd one is at the little church, and the 3rd one is at the oceanside bar.

Thank you for the review, we are doing this when we go in Dec with Princess. I think it will be the highlight of the cruise! What did you do after the trikes?

  10. Our roll call did the Okey Dokey A1 tour in January of this year. This was a fantastic tour and we had a great time. We had Carlos as our guide and had a large bus with air conditioning to hold all 18 of us very comfortably. He provided free drinks on the bus.

We got to see and hold a sloth, went to a fruit stand with short walk through the forest to see different native plants, got to see monkeys up in the trees, took a short boat ride on the Tortuguero canal and saw lots of wildlife, went to a banana plantation, went to a small restaurant on the beach and got a lunch of chicken and beans and rice, made a couple stops at scenic overlooks for pictures, and then made a short shopping stop in town before going back to the ship.

We did get the CC discount for our tour as well.

For those of you who had a different driver than Charlie and didn't get what you were originally quoted (like no free lunch), you need to email Charlie with the name of the guide and let him know. He told us to do that if we were not happy with our tour and if we didn't get what we were quoted.

I was with mosaic mom for the A-1 tour in Costa Rica, this by far was the best tour I ever had! We got everything as promised. I am sorry you had a bad experience but I email Charlie and let him know you were unhappy.

This is the van we were in!

Freedom Cruise 2011 140 by hobbyhrs97, on Flickr

  11. 5240176758quote=Dave Wojo;23530774]I host my pictures on Flickr. I copy the link from there for the size of the particular picture I want to post, open a reply window here on C.C., click on the picture button (the little yellow square with sun over some mountains), and paste the link in the window that pops up. Works like a charm. :)

    Hope that helps. :)

Testing to see if I can do this
