  1. I feel your frustration as well.  Holland America had a great list of Mocktails at almost every bar, but most were sugary as you say.  Virgin was better, it offers a selection of alcohol-free Spirits and Tonics and I was able to get some great crafted drinks that were not sugary.  I wish cruise lines would wake up to what's happening on land, there's even zero-proof bars in NYC now.

I just got off a 20 night, back to back, to back cruise on Valiant Lady and am not surprised Atlantis Events dropped Virgin.

The ship is seemingly full with even the 1,100 guests aboard my three cruises; there is simply no way that Atlantis could have a fully booked cruise, with all the events and crowds of the other lines.  The ship is poorly designed in all ways, sad but true.

Personally, I don't think the Virgin ships are "poorly designed".  I like the intimate spaces and that you aren't in Shopping Mall of the Seas.  Are there some mistakes like pool sizes, yes.  Are Virgin ships "poorly designed" for circuit parties at sea and drag shows for 2000 attendees?  Yes.

  3. I think the concerns of not looking like the advertisement models is totally nothing to worry about.  It's exactly the same as Atlantis charter cruises, their ads are SOOOO skewed from the reality of who actually goes on them.  Granted, there are lots of beautiful worked out bodies and well preserved skin (especially the Caribbean departures from FL and CA, not as much the San Juan/Southern Caribbean), but a large percentage is the average Joe.  VV will be a highly diverse crowd, and as a brand, they are very open and welcoming.

  4. I agree with the others, don’t concentrate on a hotel with shuttle. You’re better off booking booking your own 12 passenger transfer. Also, concentrate on hotels on 17th, Embassy Suites, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Pier 66, Hilton Marina, etc. you can walk to the water taxi for an evening out/dinner.

If your comfortable with it, 2 Adults and 2 Kids per a standard 2Queen bed room will probably come out cheaper than trying to find suites.

Also, for getting around without luggage, 2 UberXL or LyftPlus are the way to go. These are always minimum 6 passenger vehicles and way cheaper than taxis.

  5. Absolutely fly JetBlue. Leather seats, great legroom, free live DirecTV, free snacks.

Also, you mentioned +luggage $. If that’s a Blue Plus fare, you get your first checked bag free.

    Avoid the connection!

I have never flown JetBlue, so I am unfamiliar.

Even though we have Delta points, JetBlue now offers non-stop to FLL. Looks great.

Delta, as we know, from the South, doesn't matter if you are going to He!!, gonna stop for a layover at Atlanta. : (

So, okay... Should we save our Delta points for our next trip, and just book JetBlue, and a much lower fare. (even cash and points, For the both of us, Delta would be almost $400.00 and a LOT of miles... Jetblue Cash is $550.00 + one bag)

Also, if anyone knows, we are partnered up with our Delta points and SPG.

Does anybody know how the transfer rate is if we wanted to transfer Delta points towards an SPG hotel stay???? The next trip we are considering would probably be Delta flights, and SPG hotel stay - using points.

    I am just so lost...

    Help!!!

  6. Hey twallo, Are you back from Empress of the Seas yet? I know they were doing massive renovations on the ship, any feedback on the facilities?

Sounds like you had a great time, I'm going to have to try a Carnival ship next time. I have to say my favourite so far has been NCL Jewel, great facilities and everyone was friendly and looking to chat :D

I'm off on the Empress of the Seas in a few weeks has anyone seen or know what the steam and sauna is like on this ship?

  7. But it is not the fault of those who are passing it on to us on this board, I certainly hope that people continue to report these rumors, etc. Celebrity's rumor mill has been horrible for years going back to when the Century was supposed to be stretched many years ago. The OP was very careful in his wording, the word "Amazing" was supplied by Celebrity. Don't shoot the messenger.

Thank you djkretired! Exactly was my point, Not My Words, but those of someone at Celebrity who's official business it is to distribute the news.

I couldn't have been more clear, but as I have learned my lesson with this thread, people will read only what they want and then flame you for it.

Now please Celebrity, come on with this news and "excite" us all. (I hope  )

  8. Not sure why nobody else has picked up on this... Joe Farcus is coming out of retirement and is going to do a "Farcusize" on the M class of ships.(kind of like Solticeize but more emphasis on the Farcus) So puts to rest your guess on Voom and new speciality dining I have it from a good source that Joe Fracus is coming to Celebrity.

    Regards,

    Kevin Reid

    THAT is IT! LOL

Celebrity decided their ships needed more "Sparkle"....so they got the Queen of Glue gunning and glitter to spread shiny all over their ships. HAHA!

  9. Good Evening All!

The wifester and I had been out and about shopping for the dogs. Any word on what the big news is yet?

Still nothing yet. But the rumor mill is running full speed. We've gone from restaurant changes to several posters thinking a tech company's press release was the actual Celebrity release....

......as well as plenty of jabs at the OP's use of the word "amazing" (a.k.a.Me). It was straight from Celebrity, not from me. It seems I'm also personally responsible for the mid-week ending at a certain time on Wednesday, when others consider Tuesday-to-Thursday mid-week. LOL.

Regardless, I posted thinking there might be a little excitement... but apparently it's not that kind of thread. Maybe there will be a less than exciting announcement, or maybe it will be something actually exciting, who knows.

  10. Hi Days@Sea,

Journey and Quest are not being stripped to the metal, but it should be a wonderful modernization for both ships. Journey is being modernized in January 2016. I'm on Journey's first sailing post Drydock, and I'm very excited to be seeing the updates first-hand. Quest is being modernized in April 2016. As for the odds of the 2 ships joining Celebrity anytime soon ? I think the odds of that happening are near zero.

You are correct Andy, stripped to the metal is not accurate. However the modernization of the Azamara twins is Much closer to it than Solstisizing was to M-class. All of the original cabinetry is still in M-class staterooms whereas it appears every inch of the twins staterooms will be replaced with new everything.

One of the few places I see anything left of the original R-class ships in the new Azamara renderings are the staircase railings.

I think the odds of the Aza-twins joining Celebrity fleet are low as well, I was saying it was my "hope". Azamara, while an incredible product, has always been difficult for Royal Caribbean corporate from distribution perspective. For years now, my Royal Caribbean business development manager has also represented Azamara. Makes no sense when "modern luxury" has more relation to Azamara than Shrek and Johnny Rockets does right? But they have rccl sales force rep the product instead of the Celebrity sales because it's too close to the Celebrity product.

So in my personal opinion, I have always thought they should strip the old interiors of the Azamara ships out, put in great "modern" luxurious interiors, and move them into the Celebrity fleet. Strictly my own personal opinion.

  11. Amazing announcement? Is that Celebrity's term? I would say the last

time anything close to amazing happened was back in 2008 when Solstice

came into the fleet....that has been 7 years.......

Yep, "amazing news" was the term from someone directly at Celebrity, not my own words.

I have no idea what it will be, I was just told to keep my eyes open for amazing fleet wide news. It's probably just Voom, but who knows lol.

  12. My ex and I used the roll call on CC to chat with other couples pre-cruise, then I compiled our confirmation numbers, had RCCL cross reference us for traditional dining. We had a great table of 6 guys and 2 girls. However, our Jamaican waiter was not thrilled with us being in his section.
