  2. Hello Oren,

thank you for your review. I followed you by marinetraffic.com and webcams if possible. You confirm our observations regarding the ship.

We had a great holiday!!! On Deck 3 with a good price in comparison to other companies.

The price for the higher renovated decks is tooo high!

    Hello HawaiiIslandgirl,

we didn't see any northern lights, because it wasn't dark very often...

If you want to see northern lights you should not go in mid of summer. If there is any darkness it is only a few hours when you are in deepest sleep. Don't take June/July.

On our cruise end of July we could write ourselves on a list, if we want to be waked up. Two nights there was a chance of northern lights because of clear sky. But nearly all cabins were written on that list, so they had to telephone a lot if there had been any green... We didn't receive a call.

If you want fine wheather, then take July, the chance is best then. And nearly never dark.

  3. Hello hallelujacruiser,

I can confirm nearly all of the points you have written - a great summary of the great days!

For us it was the first expedition cruise, too. The first time we did zodiac-tours.

We enjoyed very much that we were only a few people - on the bridge there was written 117 but the excursion-team and lecturers were included, they were 15 or 16, so only about 100 passengers. Thats why we could go on zodiactours all together.

And the other great thing was the open bridge.

    And of course the weather.

We had some small things that should have been better - but all peanuts. Two times the fish was terrible - the other times excellent!

What was not good was the increasing price from last year to this year, and the discrepance between the price on Deck 3 and the prices on high decks.

And: I liked your sun hat:). Need a similar one for any cruises into the sun.

You might have had the longest way to the ship.;)

    Regards

  4. Hello Joan,

the Ocean Diamond is a small ship that docks in the small harbour in the city center (this year usually). It is near Harpa, the concert hall. You can look for it on google maps or similar. I have a link to a webcam:

    http://de.webcams.travel/webcam/fullscreen/1253383327

When the ship is there you can see the front half part. Next tuesday, July 26th, you will see it there, and perhaps you can see me going on the ship :D.

I found a little guest house that lookes nice, butterfly guest house, http://www.butterfly.is/en/pages/home , that seems to be nearest. But you can take any other in that area, everything is not far away. Reykjavik is not cheap.

We are in Hotel Centrum, that was booked by the company, because we have flights and so on included.

The bigger ships dock at Scafarbakki, which is about a kilometer away.

Do you have an emailadress for me?

    Christina

  5. Thank you, passiontotravel, for you long review. We are happy to have only one more month to wait and are looking forward.

We have booked a porthole cabin, too, but we don't have an anniversary....

I will tell you after the cruise.

  6. O yes, I forgot and didn't look at the date. There is a cruise in between, but I haven't found anything anywhere about that. It must be a charter.

Perhaps we will find out on board, what happens after our trip.

Hallelujacruiser, nice that you join us :).

    It's getting nearer.

  7. Keep the boat clean and tidy on that cruise, as I will be boarding that boat in Greenland when you get off! In fact, I believe our charter flight is the same plane taking all of you back to Iceland the day we arrive in Greenland!

We do the best we can! ;)

Can you book the excursion to the ice before you board? I mean: is it offered? Then perhaps we are on the same trip for a few hours, because we will do it before we leave Greenland.

  8. We finally received an email from procruise travel but no word on why we don't get a response from a US representative. We will probably go ahead and book the Iceland circumvention trip for August. I would still feel more comfortable if I could speak to a live person.

Does anyone know if we can book now and add shore excursions later? That is one of the questions we have that we cannot get answered.

If anyone is taking this trip earlier in the summer, we would love to hear about you experience.

    Hello snickers01,

I had contact with Icelandpro and have got answer very quickly.

icelandprocruises.com, but I wrote with a german person in an office here in Germany.

You can book shore excursions whenever you want. I have booked two some day, then I cancelled one, booked another, and I will book the qoroc Icefjord soon, I think, this will work.

It is only a reservation, the cancellation was no problem. Payment is not in advance.

We will be on the journey on July 26th from Reykjavik to Greenland.

    Christina
