  1. Good morning,

The second person in one of the staterooms in our group can no longer sail with us.  I called Carnival and there would be a penalty to "remove" the person even though the room is already paid in full and I wasn't expecting any refund.  Should I cancel the person or just have the person "miss the ship" at sailing?  In other lines, I know they refund the port fees and such to the person for the "no show" so they're not sure what to do.

  2. Hi Everyone.  It looks like one couple in our party may not be able to go on a cruise later this year.  I have an excursion I booked all of us for when the excursion was on sale.  The price of the excursion is up a lot since then.  If the couple end up cancelling their cruise, does anyone know if the excursion will get cancelled for everyone?  I wouldn't want to have to rebook the excursion for more money.

  3. Good Morning all.  In the past on the RC website I was able to check prices with either a NRD or standard booking by choosing the cabin category and then either the NRD price or the standard price.  The website (as far as I can see) doesn't allow this, and when it gets to the price breakdown, it's the NRD price only.  Is there any way to change this to see what the discounts are for a standard booking on the website?  Or do I just have to call in?

  4. Hi everyone. My family of 8 will be cruising to Labadee next summer. I definitely want to rent either a cabana or a bungalow. The cabana is higher in price and says only accommodates up to 6 (not that all 8 of us will be there at same time, especially the older kids), but looking at both of them, the bungalow seems better option? Only questioning it because of the huge difference in price. Anyway, can anyone tell me what difference there is? Location better, etc? Thanks!

  5. Lennyfitz,

I can honestly tell you that while we were waiting, the boarding numbers seemed very random. After at least 2 hours of waiting, we saw people coming out of the check in lanes with numbers 1 and 7. However, they were different colors.

Being new to NCL, I thought maybe the colors meant something different. To my horror, they called only numbers (not colors) for boarding. In my opinion, there was no rhyme or reason to the numbers anyone received at the check in counter. That is what made it so frustrating.

Prior to my saiing, people on CC said that the earlier you get to the port, the lower the number. For me, this statement is FALSE. Not so. People got there at least 2 hours after we did,, and boarded first. (FYI: my check in time online at NCL was 9 am... the earliest you can check in). From my experience, at least, per the groans and cheers at the pier, it seemed like the majority of passengers on the ship had number 19.....

  6. Agree with everything Shannon12 said above. Was on the Bermuda cruise 7/24-7/31 and pretty much the same thing. This was our first NCL cruise, but have previously sailed on Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. A total of 7 cruises so far.

We wanted to try NCL, and thought Breakaway would be a good ship. I had read that the layout of the ship was a little crazy, so I thought I was prepared, but I couldn't understand it at all. The ship felt super crowded all the time to us. Mostly because for some insane reason, they hold a lot of their shows (Newlywed Game, etc) in the Atrium area, which is smack middle of the ship. It only holds limited seating, so majority of people either have to stand, or miss the show.

Chair hogs were everywhere. I saw empty chairs for a few hours at a time. I overheard one man tell a NCL staff member that he would be chair hogging the whole cruise and that he purposely got up at 6:30 am to do just that.

The "Freestyle" dining was a joke to us. They say you can eat whenever you want, but on day 2, all restaurants were booked solid (even if you were a party of 2). I heard many people complain. Thank goodness I listened to some people on CC and reserved the restaurant I wanted in advance of the cruise, or I would have been out of luck. Yes, they have a lot of restaurants, but they are all so tiny. Even the main dining room (Manhattan) is small. Same for the bars, while a lot of choices, they are all tiny.

The rooms are super tiny too. The balcony room I had was the tiniest of all the other cruise lines I had ever been on. I actually laughed when I saw the closet, because it was exactly one foot away from the bed. You would think they would position the beds differently, so that this would not be the case.

The best thing I purchased was the spa pass. Thank goodness for that, we spent most of our time there as there was no room by the miniature pool area.

As for the teenagers/young adults, a few rotten apples will always ruin it for everyone else. I don't mind people having a good time and partying, so don't get me wrong. The ship was big, so you can imagine the impression a few of them made with me when I recognized them on day 2 of the 7 day cruise. A group of 5-7 of them ran around the halls at 2 am on two days of the cruise drunk and yelling out. They were rude and obnoxious to a majority of people. Sad thing is I saw two of the parents with them on one occasion when they were acting out, and the parents just smiled. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Embarkation was a nightmare for us as well. We were at the pier and checked in by 10 am. Got number 19 (not good). Did not board til 1 pm.

We made the most of it, again, thanks to the spa passes, as other than that, there were not a lot of places to hang out at that weren't filled with people.

Bermuda was great. Overall, except for 3 staff people who seemed frazzled (so I gave them each a pass for their rudeness), the staff were pretty pleasant.

My impression of the Breakaway: too small for the amount of people on it

  7. We just got off Breakaway last month. The shows and dinner reservations are available at the 90 day mark. The shows are different days and different times. As late as 10 pm for some shows, so you have to see what dates and times are available. We did both Teppanaki and Moderno. I enjoyed both, but if I had to choose one of the two, our group unanimously enjoyed Teppanaki. Have fun!!!

  8. Hi everyone, just a quick question... We are a group of 7 adults. We will be going to the Coco Reef Resort on one day, and to Horseshoe Bay another day. Would we go to Zone 4 "Minibuses for hire & beach shuttles"? Or would we go to Zone 2 for the "Taxi for Hire"? Just trying to figure out where to go...

    Thank you in advance!

  9. We have done one Carnival (on the Splendor) this past July because I couldn't pass up the wonderful price and itinerary. We have previously sailed on DCL Magic, RCCL Freedom, and RCCL Explorer.

It does depend on the ship, as all of us missed RCCL's promenade. However, I must admit the ship was spotless. The crew was really nice and helpful.

We booked the cruise for the itinerary, and we were not disappointed. RCCL had a similar itinerary, but it was a little over double the price.

The one complaint I would have (I don't consider the lack of a promenade a complaint as I had done my research and read reviews, so I knew what to expect) would be the food. Not that the food was bad, just that they had the SAME food EVERY day of the cruise at the buffet. There was definitely something for everyone's tastes, but ever day it was the same menu. We knew we would have a lot of the same things, but we didn't expect it to never change. I don't know if this is the case in all the Carnival ships?....We looked forward to dinner in the MDR for changes.

At least RCCL would add a few different items every day to the lunch buffet....

But all in all, we had a really good time.

  10. Good Morning everyone. I'm trying to figure this out and really need help to make up my mind. We are currently booked in two balcony rooms for the five of us (DH, DS, DS, DD and myself). Looking online at the NCL website and a few youtube videos of rooms on the Breakaway, I am thinking that the two balconies are the way to go, but someone mentioned the 2-BR haven. I would like opinions from anyone who has been in both. Right now, I should mention that the 2 balconies are connected, so in reality, we have two bathrooms and two bedrooms for everyone. Is there extra room in the 2-BR haven? The cost for the haven would be very much higher. My husband and I currently have the UBP and the kids have the UDP. I know we would get all 4 promos etc if we were in the haven. It's just that the haven doesn't seem bigger to me. Am I missing something (besides the perks)?

  11. You may have connecting balconies instead of connecting rooms. I called the other day as I had an email of an upgrade. They wanted me to pay $40 per room to go to a higher deck where the balconies connect, but not the rooms.

  12. I too have the UBP with the gratuities included. I just re-read the new terms and conditions for the upcoming promo, and it seems to me that the 18% gratuity will be automatically added when the promo is picked at time of booking (ie "prior to cruise"). That would make the most sense to me. If you booked with gratuities included, there was no extra charge to your booking... If you book with the new promo, it will be automatically entered at time of booking.... At least, I hope this is what it is....

  13. Thank you. I don't see any sailings for next Summer of 2016 from NYC. Guess there is nothing available? I reset the search criteria to any destinations and nothing came up from NYC departure. Guess there won't be a ship sailing from NYC in 2016 Summer?
