Hello All - Radiance does not have outlets by the bed and an extension cord will be needed. Radiance was built in the Meyer-Werft Shipyard in Germany in 1999-2000 and her inaugural cruise was in April 2001 🙂 I watched her be built while waiting to sail on the inaugural sailing.

Here's a link to Sprint's coverage map, https://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp you may have to input the port name to see the coverage for that specific area. I was reading that for the most part it's roaming, but you won't be charged, but I was going to call Sprint to make sure.
Sprint may work, but again coverage usually in the towns, and less coverage outside of town, generally speaking.

FYI - Check your cell carrier's coverage for Alaska. I doubt that a cell phone app that needs service would work well there. In port you may have service but traveling outside of town maybe iffy.
I have Sprint and I've been researching their coverage for Alaska and the ports we'll be at so that I'll know what I can and can't expect to receive.

I booked with Coastal and we are going this coming Monday, Memorial Day. Thanks for the info you just posted about Sebastian Schnuelle. I was unaware of this, really cool info. This trip offered a second glacier landing to get out and walk around on the glacier. Heck yeah, go for the gusto. I booked it independently from the cruise line. Really looking forward to it!
We are traveling in July and we have already booked with Coastal direct for the Glacier dog sled and the "extended" second stop lower on the glacier. We are so looking forward to this tour. Here's hoping everyone has great weather!

If you can swing it in your budget, see if you can find a place that you can rent a lens. That will keep you from having to make a purchase, but still allow you to use one. If you can get one that goes 70-300 or so (not sure what's available for Nikon, have a Canon myself) you should be ok. That's what my husband and I will be taking.

Airlines often offer precheck based on whether or not you are using one of their branded credit cards for your travels.
I've seen some indicators that this option may be going away in the near future and you have to enroll in the TSA PreCheck program to get it. Not sure how that will or will not effect those with elite status in the frequent flyer program or branded credit card holder.

My husband and I have an appointment on the 1st to finish the process (fingerprinting and payment of fees) for the TSA PreCheck (KTN). Not sure if I want to go with the Global entry. While we will be coming into the US from Vancouver on our return from our Alaska cruise, not sure if we need to have this for any other reason. We have no other trips planned right now that takes us outside of the US. I'll bring it up to my husband and see what he thinks.
FYI - I could not find any information on the timing on the TSA Pre-Check FAQ Site. Can someone let me know does it take 4/6/8 + or how many weeks after submitting everything to get the KTN?
Thanks.

Ok, so FWIW, I don't use the ones with surge protectors. What I use are basically glorified extension cords. On the Radiance class ships, there are no power outlets by the bed and I ALWAYS travel with a 15 foot extension cord. I have a standard 15' extension cord packed with my CPAP equipment.
I have in the past traveled with a power strip (sans surge protection) without it being confiscated, so this was news to me. I realize that the last time I cruised was in November 2013, and it was another cruise line, but it wasn't taken from me. FYI - I sailed on the Oasis in November 2010 without anything being confiscated.
Guess I'll make sure that it's put in our carry on and see what happens.

I have always traveled with a power strip, mostly because there aren't enough outlets in the cabins to accommodate my needs. Hair Dryer, CPAP machine, laptop and other technology charging requirements.
I noticed on a recent thread someone had posted a picture of a table that had 4 or 5 power strips on a table awaiting pick up at the end of a cruise that were confiscated at the beginning of the cruise.
Does anyone have any definitive information on why this happened or does it happen on all ships. We will be sailing in July on the Radiance (and I've sailed her 3 times in the last 15 years and all three times have taken power strips).
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ahh she did have a couple 3-night sailings, however, her official inaugural was after those, it was a 14-night Panama Canal transit, which I was on 🙂
