Projectile vomit is quite airborne and can splat on you. Same with coughing and sneezing. Any barrier helps and also helps keep you from touching your face.

First: OP never mentioned her entire office projectile vomited on each other or that they all coughed and sneezed on each other.  Second: GI pathogens are not transmitted through coughing or sneezing.  GI is contact transmission - in essence, people not washing their hands and then leaving the pathogens on fomites or directly on other vectors.  Or someone having direct contact with a contaminated bodily specimen of an infected vector.  As for your examples: Those would not be airborne either.  Such would be considered "droplet" contamination.

All I know is that when our state eliminated its mask mandate (and I took mine off because I'm vaccinated), I ended up at urgent care for a shot of zofran because I had viral gastroenteritis.  Spread through my whole (maskless) office.  So covid may not be the only thing masks have protected us from.

GI ailments are not caused by airborne pathogens!  Nothing to do with your mask (or lack thereof).

  3. OK, so I have a booking for the 12/17 Miracle....and thus far....nobody is committing to tag along. I am going for sure (need some R&R on semester break), but I have never cruised alone. :(

Any advice? Tips? It'll also be my first Carnival cruise...usually on HAL or NCL.

Thank you all. Have a great day.

  4. What you are looking at is the "Early Saver" rate. That's something unique to Carnival, in that you get a discounted rate for booking early, and you are allowed to continue matching to lower prices after the final payment date, all the up until a couple days before sailing. Those are the advantages, but there are plenty of restrictions. One is the thing about no name changes allowed, not even for a fee. Another big one is that the deposit is nonrefundable. If you cancel the cruise before final payment, the deposit (minus a $50 per person penalty) will be held for a future cruise to be taken within a couple years. That future cruise credit would have to go toward the final payment of the future cruise, not the deposit. If you change what sailing you're going to go on before final payment, that will also incur a $50pp penalty. Also, no downgrading your room at any time. You can move to an equal category room, or you can upgrade (paying whatever the price difference is), but no downgrading. Some people report a Carnival phone rep getting them out of these restrictions, but I would never count on that happening for me or you.

Most of Carnival's other rates will not have these restrictions, but they also are usually a higher price than Early Saver, plus you cannot price match after final payment. So those rates are basically just like the ones from other cruiselines.

Thank you, K2. I appreciate your help. It would be my first cruise on CCL (only been mainly with HAL and 1 time on NCL). I read through the restrictions regarding the deposit, etc. Fine with that. Also, downsizing not likely. as I absolutely need a balcony. My main concern is that the person I am planning to go with will not know for sure until much later this year. So, I want to just keep "guest #2" listed as TBA until I know for certain. If not this person, then another one can be entered at that point. Another CC member posted that this should be fine - he keeps it open until later in the game, too. :)

Really appreciate your nice note. Good luck with all those mountains!

  5. I have one in Dec and I don't plan on entering in names yet, I will wait until I am sure who is going with me. Prior to final payment I will enter in the names, I just go online to my online check in and add the names there. I've never had a problem doing it that way. It definitely will not change the price of your cruise. Your cruise is locked in at the price you booked it at, you can even do price adjustments, change rooms etc without having the other passenger names in there.

That's perfect! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

  6. I have never been on CCL before (only HAL and NCL). I have placed a cruise on hold. However, I need some help with this question please:

I will not know who passenger #2 will be until a while from now (cruise is for December). So, can I just enter my name for booking and leave the #2 as TBA and just pay the deposit and then add the second name later on? Or will that re-price my cruise at that point?

I am just confused, because it says "name changes not allowed". Final Pay Date would be October 3.

Thank you all. Have a lovely day.

  7. Thank you all. Due to the tight schedule between semester finals ending in late December and when the holiday cruise pricing goes into effect (translation - it becomes unaffordable for me :p), I opted for a west coast departure and put a deposit down for the Westerdam, 7 day Mexico on December 17. :)

  8. Yes...I realize what y'all been thinking..."Jayisgerman was so lucky to have won that Lotto Jackpot!" Right? I mean, how else would you explain that she's been gone from cruising and, not to mention, this board for years? :p

Well, fear not - still no lotto winner here. Still working full time and going to school at night trying to get to that nursing degree...

But, I did just put down a deposit for a December voyage! WooHoo! Yeah! My withdrawals were finally just too much to take, and I buckled under the sheer weight of needing a holiday and someone else to worry about "daily chores". :)

So...Hello and Nice to see you all again! Have a lovely day!

  9. I got this offer for a 7 day Alaska cruise:

    ===============

Upgrade for select bookings from your Signature Suite (Category SS to SZ)

Pinnacle Suite (Category PS ) for an additional $ 799 Per Person

Neptune Suite (Category SA to SC) for an additional $ 199 Per Person

    to the following best available:

    ==========================

Did take the upgrade for the Neptune, but declined the Pinnacle

Will probably never get such a sweet deal again, but the SA suite was ample enough for us ;)

    Hello JPelleti -

Was this an upsell offer for an Alaska cruise to happen in 2015? And was it for the Zaandam? I am just interested, as I am keeping my little peepers wide open to see if anything comes our way for May 24th departure.

    Thank you.

  10. Welcome to CruiseCritic!

I do not have personal experience with brining small children on board, but here would be my suggestion:

    - Don't overdo it, but do bring the items that are most important to your child (certain teddy, doll, puzzle, books). I would say maybe around 6 or so things. I would not get anything from a "loaner" program (not sure it exists) - because you know where your child's things have been.

    - Do bring her special blankets or snuggle pillow. Sense of security is important in a strange environment.

    - I do not know what type of cabin you will have, but I have seen other people on CC suggest to buy a cheap small kiddie pool. It can serve 2 purposes: 1 - you can put it on the balcony and fill with a little water and you can enjoy the sun and air with a private pool party for the little one. :) 2- you can place it inside the tub or shower and it will make bathtime easier to handle.

    - Formal Night - I have seen other CC members post that they get a tux or gown (sort of like a onesee style) for the child and then the pictures are just a super memory to have. You can go all over the ship and try out the different posing opportunities. I am sure the photogs will be happy to snap away.

    - As for the more logical things - bring a bunch of OTC stuff "in case" and of course any medications that are RX.

Good Luck. Enjoy your cruise and Safe Travels.

  11. Some of my family visited from Europe this past Christmas and stayed at several hotels during their road-trip. They (for reasons I can't understand ) also always leave their DND sign out. Every single day without fail there was a piece of paper in the room that stated "we have the right to enter your room every 24 hours" - and so they did.

I think to a certain degree they worry about bodily harm of the occupant(s), but also physical damage to their belongings and/or illegal activities.

I would assume on a cruiseship they would worry to see a DND sign all the time and therefore security and hotel management officers would also enter.

  12. I think if you are aware of the particular natural remedy that aleviates your discomfort - it would be best to just bring your own supply. This way your GI system will not have to face any surprises.

Also - just a side note - my Mum drinks some horrific anise/caraway tea for this situation and always brings it with her from Europe when she comes to visit the States. It smells nasty to me and I could not imagine actually drinking it, but it helps her. Perhaps this is an option for you as well, if you do not wish to bring along seeds?

    Enjoy your travels.

  13. Good Day All,

If a cruise has been paid - and it turns out 1 of the passengers cannot go, but another person can - is it possible to make that change, despite being past final payment?

This would not be adding any additional person into the cabin, etc. Just substituting Jane Doe for Jackie Doe (if that makes sense).

Does anybody have personal experience with this situation? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

  14. We will be on the Zaandam from May 24 to 31 coming from Seward to Vancouver. Other than some inside cabins and the Pinnacle Suite - it shows now "SOLD OUT" for all other cabins.

Is that normal? I have never seen that on any of our other cruises until about a couple weeks or so away from departure. Is it maybe just a room block for land-tour guests, etc?

Just wondering out loud. Maybe people found out I'll be on the ship and just can't resist to be there, too? Ha!

  15. Keep Calm and Order On! ;)

Thank you all for the feedback. I realize it might have seemed like a silly question, but when we first started cruising - it took some getting used to on how to order in the MDR, since you decide on every course at once, etc....

We finally passed that awkwardness and felt we were becoming quite the pros in this and now a new system????? :o Again, I realize it is no big deal and your answers are encouraging me to just be bold and ask for what we want and all shall be ok!

Thank you to everyone for the input.

  16. I read this thread with great interest about the new menu layout, but now I am confused....

How do I order this? In the past, it seemed easy to pick one item from each section, but now that they are grouped - I feel like it looks funny or seems awkward.

Please share your experience, if you would. How did you order? ;)

Thank you all. Have a great day.
