  1. I’ve been told that some cruise lines hold them back for disabled travelers but your travel agent has to call them directly, any idea which cruise lines these are because I’ll start loyally  booking on them.  (BTW - 1st time ever, got a last minute cruise deal on NCL breakaway with a handicap cabin).  And Holland America gave me a reduced rate on a handicap room as it was the last one they had left (booked that one a year in advanced).

  2. The walking tour of Aalborg was excellent and we loved the Gdansk trip too. We thought the Eidfjord one was awful - coach took us to a small Exhibition centre not too far away, where we did the tour (the film was OK) and then were left to our own devices while we waited for the coach to return to take us back to the ship. Just a café and shop to amuse us. We would have been better to just take a walk along one of the many marked pathways from the village centre. (which we have done before on previous visits there).

Jammy Bun - I am in a wheelchair so I’ve avoided all the moderate inclusive excursions. But I’m wondering if a bus just takes you to the town to start the tour and returns to take you back? If so, I might add it in to get to town and back. Will this work?

  3. Eaches,

God bless you! I am only in my 50s but I have Multiple Sclerosis and am in a wheelchair the majority of the time. Why I don’t want to slow anyone down, some of these comments seem like I should stay home, not live a life, and prepare for death. I just wanted to thank you for your comments. I wouldn’t wish this disease on anyone but I’m still alive! Again, God bless you.

  4. This is my first cruise on Viking. I have a Penthouse Junior Suite as I am in a wheelchair and those were the only handicap accessible rooms. Anyway, my MIL and guest and SIL and husband are also on the cruise but in Veranda Cabins. I can book specialty restaurants in a week but they have to wait. Is there a way to “invite” them even though they can’t make the reservations yet or would that mess my reservations up? Or is there a link I can give them once they can book? One more question, I cannot have dairy, will the specialty restaurants be able to work around that? TIA

  5. Hello, I'm going on a Baltic cruise (Bergen to Stockholm with a stop in St. Petersburg). I use a wheelchair but can climb onto a bus and walk short distances with help (balance problems). My wheelchair is collapsible. I found some private excursions with wheelchair lifts but they are pricey. Any suggestions? And if I splurge on just just a couple excursion, which are the not to be missed ones?

  6. There is a minibar/frig with sodas, alcohol and candy bars contained within that are replenished daily in the junior penthouse suite. Is there a charge for these items or is it included in the cost of the room? (We don't want a big surprise when we leave the ship).

  7. Interesting ... just looked at deck plans on two different sites for the Viking Orion and it doesn't indicate any cabins as 'Accessible', so I would definitely call them directly and ask. That's something that's usually shown on deck plans.

I know, and that was my concern too. I don't want to go on a cruise and find I can't even leave the cabin and have trouble even taken a shower. Everything I have found so far tells me to go on another cruise line but she's pretty adamant about wanting to go on Viking.

  8. My MIL would like to take a Viking ocean cruise to Russia. Can anyone tell me if they have handicap rooms to include shower chairs in the bathrooms of the handicap cabins? Also, I know excursions are included in the purchase price, would they have anything available to someone in a wheelchair?

  9. hello - my mother-in-law would really like to go on a Viking Ocean cruises as a retirement gift for my husband. The problem is I planned on going with him and I am in a wheelchair. I have heard Viking ships are terrible for handicap passengers. That they do not have handicap accessible rooms, especially shower chairs in the bathroom. Additionally, they have an excursion and each port and I am concerned I won't be able to go on any of them. Does anyone have any information on the subject?
