1. We are booked with friends on the Quest for the Buenos Aires to Rio cruise next March.  The ship docks in Rio on 3/14 at 08:00 and remains in port for an overnight.  We will be able to see a good deal of Rio on an excursion that day.  Having lived in Rio for three years over 40 years ago, this will be a real nostalgia trip back down memory lane.

Since the best direct flights out to the U.S. for our connections seem to be Delta departing at 09:15, we could either stay over another night in Rio or just get up bright and early on disembarkation day (3/15) to catch the Delta flight.  Should we have any concern that Azamara won't accommodate our ability to leave very early for the airport (say, 05:00 or 06:00)?

  2. I booked this cruise in May of 2017, after the date mentioned above. All excursions were booked over the phone with NCL, not on their website which wasn't working properly when I tried. I did get one excursion (the St. Petersburg package priced at $603 pp versus the $629 onboard) discounted early, but none of these received th 15% discount.

  3. We recently completed the Breakaway 9-day Baltic cruise on the 4th of July. It was great! But definitely tiring with all of the excursions involved. I'm not a great fan of the giant ships, but it worked OK.

We did have a problem with our onboard account though. I hadn't realized that the 15% discount that Platinum Plus members receive for shore excursions isn't automatically applied. NCL's software doesn't account for that and you have to MANUALLY go down to the Shore Ex desk and request the discount (worth hundreds on this cruise). I wonder how many people fail to do this? NCL makes more money this way. If they know we are PPlus, they should be able to get the discount applied.

Just thought you might want to know...

  4. The Mayan Princess is a great choice for a day pass. We did one of those last year in January with our daughter and grand daughters. You get a nice beach with chairs and one of the options lets you use their great pool. A short walk off the beach gets you to a nice little place for lunch called Celeste's.

  5. Yeah, we had three balconies in a row and were disappointed. However, we all had keys to each other's rooms, so when I spotted this sunset to the left and this double rainbow to the right, I ran into each room telling everyone to go outside...wasn't as cozy, but worked ok. Although we were in Alaska so it was cold for a lot of the balcony time.

    Enjoy your cruise!

I wonder if we were on the same cruise (6/30 out of Whittier). I have almost the same exact set of photos!

  6. All Balcony cabins on the Sun can sleep 4; they all have a double foldout couch...

...except the Aft Facing Balconies...they have a single foldout couch and are the only "B" cabins that are limited to 3 guests.

Thanks... I thought it might be a double foldout couch. I was trying to remember from our recent trips. I wonder why they show different capacities on their deck plans(?) Anyway, thanks for the info.

  7. What is the difference in the balcony rooms that sleep 3 vs. those that sleep 4? I'm specifically looking at the Sun if anyone knows the answer. Is the square footage different or same? How do they get a fourth person in some rooms but not others?

  8. I'm on the Sun right now in Skagway. We're having a GREAT cruise. Today is rainy but the past two days have been great. We saw 6 humpbacks yesterday on an excursion out of Juneau. Lots of eagles, one bear, many harbor seals...

  9. I think he is saying he owns 100 or more shares of stock. If so, he gets either a dinner and bottle of wine in Cagney's or a $100 OBC. The OBC has to be requested at least 2 weeks prior to sailing and will only be applied if the investor isn't getting any other OBCs given by promos. For us, it is the dinner and wine, which is about the same as $100OBC if you think about it.

That's exactly what I was mentioning... We couldn't get the $100 OBC but the rep offered us the dinner/wine instead.
